I really liked him as *A* villain to Sonic, but I didn't really like him *AS* Dr. Eggman specifically. He just felt a little too... "Jim Carrey being funny" to me. Given I'm used to the Eggman that came post Sonic Adventure. He does make me interested in seeing what he could bring to a sequel though.
It really depends on how much you like sonic tbh. Even for casual fans, this sonic plays at his best when he's stablishing a universe that, while it references the games, it also becomes its own entity (Sonic nicknaming Robotnik "Eggman" because of the design of his robots for example. Robotnik was the name that they used for Eggman in the localization of the original games, to later become part of his official name as Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik). If you don't care about that, then the movie is exactly as cliche as an animal + plus human buddy travel movie can get. Is not worthy of an Oscar, but it has more heart than many animated comedies that had come out this year, probably because Sonic itself brings his own charm to make it special. Personally? I can't wait for the sequel, seeing Carrey go full costume like his 90's years, as well as the inclusion of the lovable buddy that always get things right when Sonic is in trouble.
Surprisingly Sonic the Hedgehog has a better review than Detective Pikachu on Common Sense Media's website. Detective Pikachu got a 3 out of 5 and Sonic got a 4 out of 5. I personally think the numbers should both be 4 out of 5 or reversed.
I'm guessing by the early 2030s, it would be considered as a cult classic. It will not fall into the same as Blade Runner. but more likely as the same as Scott Pilgrim versus the world. Although that movie bombed. It still considered as the best cult classic, that's my theory for the end of this 2020 decade, the Sonic the Hedgehog film becoming a cult classic in about 10 years or so.

As a Sonic Adventure fan this review hurts me, especially when he references Game Grumps. Hey, atless you admitted your a casual fan right? But it's kind of getting annoying of how much the 3D games just get bashed by people who haven't even played them, honestly the Classic Games are pretty overrated imo. As much as I love Sonic CD, and Sonic 3&K, those games can't match SA1, SA2, and Sonic Heroes in my heart.
Yeah i think when you review a movie that is based on a property with a huge fanbase it's best to clarify where your stance on the franchise stands cause then people who don't agree with the review will be at least more understanding. Still though a 6/10 from a casual fan like Animat is a 9/10 for a big fan like myself.

I agree, I really enjoyed the film because I didn't expect or really wanted a deep oscar winning picture. I just wanted to see Sonic on the big screen. If you're like me, you'll likely enjoy it. But if you want a good movie, take it with a grain of salt.

I understand perfectly your resistance to getting some of the later titles, but there are some Emeralds in the rough. Personal favorites of mine include Sonic Generations, Sonic Colors, and Sonic Heroes. Shadow the Hedgehog's a bad game but fun to mock, same goes for 06, Forces is just sad, the Boom games deserve to 'boomed' off the face of the Earth (though the TV show's not half bad), and that's about as much as I can say about the games. The TV shows can be just as divisive; Sonic Underground and Sonic SatAM were good, The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog is bad, but enjoyable; and Sonic X is stupid, but also fun in how stupid it gets. I expect no less from the dubbers behind Pokemon and Yugioh.
I figured you were going to give it a decent rating, but I'm still planning to go see it. Sonic was one of the few video game franchises I played as a kid, and into my early adult life with the Wii games; but I haven't played them in years, since I've been working. Like I said, I'm still planning to go see it. Looks okay, and it could have been A-LOT WORSE.... Plus the fact that the company and studio for the movie ACTUALLY LISTENED to the general public about Sonic design. Hopefully, this movie will go on and inspire other future films to do the same.

@@rocbenaa1963 Don't worry. Illumination always has a spurt of emotion at some points. Remember Sing? That was really impacting because _all_ the characters had problems we relate to in real life. And I have a couple of impacting predictions for the Mario movie; The first is the reveal that Bowser killed Peach's mother, the other has Peach begging Bowser to spare Mario (after having Yoshi poisoned by Petey Piranha and Boom Boom knocking Luigi in a chasm) by going with him to get married. For comedy, I have this recurring idea of the Koopa Troop rehearsing the wedding. Since Peach refused to co-operate, they find the next best thing for an understudy, _Petey Piranha._ Bowser's line? "(Rudely hawks one) Can I borrow some money?"
My only worry about the Mario movie is that it’s an Illumination production. Don’t get me wrong, Illumination isn’t a terrible company in the conventional sense like Sony Pictures Animation or Electronic Arts, because they do produce serviceable films with well-made animation. But that’s also their biggest issue; Their films are virtually risk-free, generic animated films with little substance outside of expectations and premises that are embarrassingly predictable. Again, there’s nothing wrong with being just “okay,” but in a medium where the only limit is one’s imagination, having something that’s been done numerous times without much variety in-between won’t last you long in the industry.

What I Love About Sonic Movie 1. Especially love Movie Sonic even more than Modern Sonic and especially in live action movie. Sonic’s personality is more funny, cute, like to doing different things than just running, adventure and action and still cool, charming, brave and easy-going and had more character developing. Sonic’s final movie design just almost look like Modern Sonic what I also wanted first before some designs were spoiled and better than both the awful prototype and even Modern Sonic design. Sonic's torso is bigger as two of my favorite Sonic designs both ’06 and Boom Sonic, his arms is blue like Boom Sonic, have one more quill both back on his head and back (seven quills back on his head and three quills on his back) and his eyes are separated and more expressive. Sonic is a young kid first before he's older in the rest of the movie and have a Superman's/Goku's origin cliché. 2. Sonic Movie is now both my best favorite Sonic TV show/movie and video game movie and both one of my best favorite live action and furry movies. 3. Especially a Sonic live action movie I just wanted and even both didn't fail unlike most other live action movies like it and for be based on a low budget franchise according to be least in Greatest Movie Wiki. 4. Just also have same cliché as and seems as an adaptation of my second favorite Sonic TV show/movie Sonic X. 5. There were just both TMNT and a Superman’s/Goku’s origin cliché I just wanted in the Sonic franchise even before we knew there would be a Sonic live action movie. 6. I just especially wanted Sonic live action movie that really reminds me when I just especially want also TMNT live action movie before I knew there unlikely already for long time was one from early 90s since I especially want both Sonic and TMNT live action movie and reminds me of other live action movie adaptations like it from between 2000-2011, especially I relive memories and feelings when I was a fan of Alvin and the Chipmunks 1 & 2. 7. Some of the soundtrack background music especially in the Sonic Movie, especially Meet Sonic, Welcome to Green Hill, A Very Lonely Life and A New Home. 8. There were both funny and heartwarming moments with Sonic. 9. There were no annoying anti-Sonamy moments since no of Sonic’s friends didn’t appear in the movie except Tails appear in the credits and unless there will be in the sequels. 10. Have become the second highest-grossing movie in year 2020 and the best highest-grossing video game live action movie adaptation in USA. What I Think Sucks About Sonic Movie 1. Wasn't translated also in all Scandinavian languages in theatrically release and not even in DVD/Blu-ray release when it was later only in Digitalt and least is a PG family movie translated in most other languages and even least Swedish and i am a Scandinavian. 2. The "Gotta Og Fast" Chizzy Stephens song was replaced with "Speed Me Up" and wasn't even in the movie which is just both a Green Hill theme music remix song and named after the Sonic X English intro song and sounds better than "Speed Me Up". 3. The running time wasn't least over and even felt short for be almost 100 minutes running time. 4. Two deleted scenes when Sonic and Longclaw escaped to Earth and Sonic messing with Crazy Carl weren't also in the movie and were still something missing I wanted also in the movie like there were no regular hedgehog and maybe wasn't enough funny moments with Sonic like Sonic can't swim thought it was showed that he have been in water and said water stinks, pretended to be a stuffed animal or used more disguises and didn't try cat food unless there will be in the sequel. 5. Didn't also use some of the prototype posters with the final Movie Sonic design instead of the awful prototype Movie Sonic design. 6. Was several times late. 7. There's no video game adaptation. 8. Ulike Modern Sonic, Sonic is maybe more immature, 13-14 years old instead of least 15 according to Jeff Fowler about a Sonic sequel and both his height and quills are may be shorter.

The TV shows can be just as divisive; Sonic Underground and Sonic SatAM were good, The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog is bad, but enjoyable; and Sonic X is stupid, but also fun in how stupid it gets. I expect no less from the dubbers behind Pokemon and Yugioh.
I love this movie a lot more now and I hyped for the sequel.

I figured you were going to give it a decent rating, but I'm still planning to go see it. Sonic was one of the few video game franchises I played as a kid, and into my early adult life with the Wii games; but I haven't played them in years, since I've been working.
Like I said, I'm still planning to go see it. Looks okay, and it could have been A-LOT WORSE.... Plus the fact that the company and studio for the movie ACTUALLY LISTENED to the general public about Sonic design. Hopefully, this movie will go on and inspire other future films to do the same.
You see, everyone; there is hope! First Detective Pikachu, then The Angry Birds Movie 2 and how this! Video Game Movies are making history and finally letting their hard work and amazing visuals be witnessed against those who are oppressing them through media discrimination! With Illumination in charge of the Mario movie, let the other companies do their best to bring out favourite console heroes on the big screen! (Like Kid Icarus with DreamWorks!)
Even so, I'm still worried about the Illumination's Mario movie.

@@rocbenaa1963 Don't worry. Illumination always has a spurt of emotion at some points. Remember Sing? That was really impacting because _all_ the characters had problems we relate to in real life.
And I have a couple of impacting predictions for the Mario movie; The first is the reveal that Bowser killed Peach's mother, the other has Peach begging Bowser to spare Mario (after having Yoshi poisoned by Petey Piranha and Boom Boom knocking Luigi in a chasm) by going with him to get married.
For comedy, I have this recurring idea of the Koopa Troop rehearsing the wedding. Since Peach refused to co-operate, they find the next best thing for an understudy, _Petey Piranha._ Bowser's line? "(Rudely hawks one) Can I borrow some money?"
My only worry about the Mario movie is that it’s an Illumination production. Don’t get me wrong, Illumination isn’t a terrible company in the conventional sense like Sony Pictures Animation or Electronic Arts, because they do produce serviceable films with well-made animation. But that’s also their biggest issue; Their films are virtually risk-free, generic animated films with little substance outside of expectations and premises that are embarrassingly predictable. Again, there’s nothing wrong with being just “okay,” but in a medium where the only limit is one’s imagination, having something that’s been done numerous times without much variety in-between won’t last you long in the industry.
The owl is a reference to the 1996 OVA movie. There was an owl in the OVA anime movie. It is paying homage to the "original" movie.

What I Love About Sonic Movie
1. Especially love Movie Sonic even more than Modern Sonic and especially in live action movie.
Sonic’s personality is more funny, cute, like to doing different things than just running, adventure and action and still cool, charming, brave and easy-going and had more character developing.
Sonic’s final movie design just almost look like Modern Sonic what I also wanted first before some designs were spoiled and better than both the awful prototype and even Modern Sonic design. Sonic's torso is bigger as two of my favorite Sonic designs both ’06 and Boom Sonic, his arms is blue like Boom Sonic, have one more quill both back on his head and back (seven quills back on his head and three quills on his back) and his eyes are separated and more expressive.
Sonic is a young kid first before he's older in the rest of the movie and have a Superman's/Goku's origin cliché.
2. Sonic Movie is now both my best favorite Sonic TV show/movie and video game movie and both one of my best favorite live action and furry movies.
3. Especially a Sonic live action movie I just wanted and even both didn't fail unlike most other live action movies like it and for be based on a low budget franchise according to be least in Greatest Movie Wiki.
4. Just also have same cliché as and seems as an adaptation of my second favorite Sonic TV show/movie Sonic X.
5. There were just both TMNT and a Superman’s/Goku’s origin cliché I just wanted in the Sonic franchise even before we knew there would be a Sonic live action movie.

I just especially wanted Sonic live action movie that really reminds me when I just especially want also TMNT live action movie before I knew there unlikely already for long time was one from early 90s since I especially want both Sonic and TMNT live action movie and reminds me of other live action movie adaptations like it from between 2000-2011, especially I relive memories and feelings when I was a fan of Alvin and the Chipmunks 1 & 2.
7. Some of the soundtrack background music especially in the Sonic Movie, especially Meet Sonic, Welcome to Green Hill, A Very Lonely Life and A New Home.
8. There were both funny and heartwarming moments with Sonic.
9. There were no annoying anti-Sonamy moments since no of Sonic’s friends didn’t appear in the movie except Tails appear in the credits and unless there will be in the sequels.
10. Have become the second highest-grossing movie in year 2020 and the best highest-grossing video game live action movie adaptation in USA.
What I Think Sucks About Sonic Movie
1. Wasn't translated also in all Scandinavian languages in theatrically release and not even in DVD/Blu-ray release when it was later only in Digitalt and least is a PG family movie translated in most other languages and even least Swedish and i am a Scandinavian.
2. The "Gotta Og Fast" Chizzy Stephens song was replaced with "Speed Me Up" and wasn't even in the movie which is just both a Green Hill theme music remix song and named after the Sonic X English intro song and sounds better than "Speed Me Up".
3. The running time wasn't least over and even felt short for be almost 100 minutes running time.
4. Two deleted scenes when Sonic and Longclaw escaped to Earth and Sonic messing with Crazy Carl weren't also in the movie and were still something missing I wanted also in the movie like there were no regular hedgehog and maybe wasn't enough funny moments with Sonic like Sonic can't swim thought it was showed that he have been in water and said water stinks, pretended to be a stuffed animal or used more disguises and didn't try cat food unless there will be in the sequel.
5. Didn't also use some of the prototype posters with the final Movie Sonic design instead of the awful prototype Movie Sonic design.
6. Was several times late.
7. There's no video game adaptation.
8. Ulike Modern Sonic, Sonic is maybe more immature, 13-14 years old instead of least 15 according to Jeff Fowler about a Sonic sequel and both his height and quills are may be shorter.
Let's hope that we see Tails, Knuckles, or Metal Sonic if a sequel is made

I was expecting absolutely nothing and I ended up loving it
