Ludwig is very kind with his comments. His playing sings and his phrasing is completely natural - he does not sound as if he is TRYING to play - he just plays.
Super helpful for my own upcoming Principal Cello audition preparation. Thank you, Maestro Quandt! For those interested: his pupil, Ms. Bourderionnet, is a fine professional cellist in her own right.
I have watched this video so many times, these parts make my tear come down. I will keep watching this video, and I also wish that I can be as good as you.
I just performed the 5th Symphony just last Saturday and this is most interesting to watch after playing it (the conductor is a cellist so came up with similar ideas and the same fingerings as in this video).
Personally, I've been trying to learn how to play this piece properly for year's on my cello. It must have been really cool to have Ludwig Quandt instructing the best of the slow movements of the Beethoven symphonies. Also, just look at those fingerings!
Poor girl is so nervous keeps forgetting to play the little variation/embellishments in rhythm and dynamic although mr Quandt makes them perfectly clear. Amazing teacher. She'll be great one day too.
Oh my God, haha...I just realized his name is "Ludwig"...and he could have been explaining any other piece, it had to be one from, well, haha...Ludwig...
He had an accident a few years ago and since then he's not been able to hold the bow "properly", so this is an "emergency solution" (his own words). He advises people to please not try to imitate it!!!
Some time ago Mr. Quandt injured a tendon in his right hand while chopping wood. Now he wraps a rubber band around the 3rd and 4th fingers on that hand and connects it to the bow so he is still able to hold it.
@@trlewcun wow! If I were a professional cellist of his caliber, I wouldn't take a risk chopping wood like that! From my experience in hand surgery, those types of injuries are hard to come back from yet still have the fine motor coordination to resume high-level activity such as cello playing.
Also, it is hoped that the student is making a recording for further reviewing. It may be called a 'master class' but it may be better depicted as a 'learning' class?
In fact I do not care if "Steinway and Sons" is the preferred piano, as this is exactly what I assumed anyway . By the way: what about forte? Basically I would be more interested in the preferred döner provider and dentist. To be serious: I do not like this advertisement at the end of the video, especially as there is no pianoforte, but only two cellos.
I completely agree. Neither is he a second Maximilian Hornung and his Suaheli might be very poor. But he can definitely share a lot of experience with this particular piece as principal cellist of one of the best orchestras in the world. When you hear him play a solo passage with Berlin Phil it's really outstanding. So please, do not mix things: Du Pre was a fantastic soloist and he is a fantastic and sensitive orchestra musician. And yes, his English is not the best, but I know many world class musicians with less knowledge in foreign languages. But they play and sometimes teach very well!!!

This video is gold. This is the piece every cellist need go through.
it's amazing how they replicate each other's sound. true musicianship.
You mean how she tries to replicate his sound
That's how teaching works...

Ludwig Quandt is a gifted teacher, and Georgia Bourderionnet certainly has solid potential.
Ludwig quandt is an excellent cellist. He plays very sensitive and brings lot of colours to the music to give pleasure to audiences
Played this many times in my career...it is still one hell of a passage. BUT I still love it.
Lovely, self effacing genius principal cellist. Clearly a great teacher!
I like that fingering in the upper position. I'll have to try that next time I have to practice the Beethoven excerpts. Beautiful job.
Amy Collins 😊

ludwig quandt teacher is so lovely a man and i love him!

his cello sound is very impressive ! very deep !
I love his encouragement 😊

Quandt is just brilliant!
Was es nochmal für einen Unterschied macht, wenn er spielt oder sie...obwohl beides klasse ist, aber der Lehrer ist eben extraklasse
it is very helpful for my audition hehe

If she takes sleep breaks betweeen them, she will eventually get it.
7:24 "Here we are left alone in the forte" Hmmpff. What about the entire DOUBLE BASS SECTION?
gnypp45 Basses are just fat cellos.
nice i'll never be this good but nice
Where is the Viola masterclass video ???
awesome
Oh my God, haha...I just realized his name is "Ludwig"...and he could have been explaining any other piece, it had to be one from, well, haha...Ludwig...
MUITO BOM!
Ludwig is wearing rubber bands on his 3rd and 4th fingers . Does anyone know the reason ?
He had an accident a few years ago and since then he's not been able to hold the bow "properly", so this is an "emergency solution" (his own words). He advises people to please not try to imitate it!!!
My beloved immortal....Beethoven!
💖💞🎻
That’s a weird fingering . Why make it more difficult than it already is?
she's pretty
WHAT IS ON HIS RIGHT HAND FINGERS?!?!?!

Ook! [Skubany...]
When he makes a correction he should let the pupil play that piece again to see if they've mastered it . He speeds through it all much to quickly .
There's no need. A cellist as smart as Georgia Bourderionnet could easily understand everything Ludwig Quandt talked about in this video.
Yue Wang is that girl really famous
paacer 😊
Yue Wang 😊

I believe they are required to to mention that because of sponsorship obligations.
I might stick with the piano. This looks way too difficult.
silly to make her change fingerings when hers work perfectly fine
It was a proposal. Not a command. As a proposal it was not "silly".
It's a fingering that helps phrasings. Fingerings are also a mean to music
Oink Oink. Quandt is not necessarily a second Jacqueline du Pre and his English is improvable. Fifth league at best.
(Kreisliga B)
Seriously?
