This was my class P6 Mersey Street Primary was good to see my school & my favorite teacher Mr Jones Tom Baker was lovely such a lovely surprise for us kids especially in those dark days of The Troubles. Thank you Tom. 💕💕
What makes this video even more awesome in my opinion was that Baker did this when the violence in that area was still very high. I'm not sure what it is about that, but somehow watching this video with that fact in mind makes me feel hopeful for humanity

Same here. Tom's a very special guy and THE DOCTOR, not just a doctor. In America we took to Tom very quickly when they started airing his episodes back in the early 80s. The guys respected him and the women loved him. Unfortunately I only got to see a couple of his episodes before I started working on Saturdays. But that impression is what got me watching the new series. Then BBC America started airing some his episodes . I thought I'll give them a try to see what the fuss had been about with Tom's Doctor. Matt Smith (who had been my favorite) became my #2 favorite. Now Tom has worked his magic on me and has become my favorite. Brilliant actor and sexy Doctor without trying to be.
Linda Taylor Well yeah because both David Tennant's and Matt Smith's Doctor's were basically just Russel T. Davies and Steven Moffat trying to recreate the Tom Baker era without really understanding what made it special. The Doctor would use technojargon in the old show too, but most of the time he had to do something that made sense to the audience in order to escape danger, whereas in the new show what the writers do a lot more of is just give some future "science" or advanced technology magical powers. The sonic screwdriver is the worst example. Originally it was just a screwdriver. It could only open doors after the doctor modified it to be a make-shift sonic lance, which itself is intended as more of a drill than a door-opener. And then there's the time tunnel from his intro which got so overused. In the 1970's it was just something ethereal and bizarre, and somewhat creepy like the previous intros. Now it's actually the supposed time vortex the Tardis flies through.

I’m 25, a field staff paleontologist and I would absolutely love to have Tom Baker come to my job site for a visit! I’d squeal like a six year old boy!
I hope Tom Baker gets this message I hope. As a kid I had a rough life. Due to my physical disability. And when the time came for me to go and have surgery. After surgery. I was always the brave kid until I went to have the surgeries done. I was very scared. And when I came home and recovered. At times when I was in pain. I would watch Doctor Who. And Tom Baker would make me forget about the pain that I was suffering. And he gave me the best medicine of all. Laughter. He just. Lifted my spirits. It made me laugh so much. I wouldn’t mind having a time lord at my house and make me laugh. It’s just what the Dr. ordered. Thanks Tom Baker for all your help. Whether you realize it or not. 2:04
Tom Baker came to Atlanta one day in a beige raincoat c. 1986 while I was working nearby - will never forget that charming, astonishing fellow! He predicted the series may come to an end - we Whovians were horrified! It did end, for a time, but was revised a few years later. No matter, if ever there was a rogue Time Lord saving the universe it would be the 4th Doctor . . . Jon Pertwee also made an appearance at another time in another Atlanta conference hall in that decade, a Dr Who/Star Wars event as I remember- he was utterly adorable in his tuxedo. SIGH!

@Jack The Film Fanatic He says in his autobiography he had abandoned religion by this point, but he would have been an RC by family background. Both of the schools Baker visits were Protestant. No "Sacred Heart Primary" or "St Theresa's"... Probably because the BBC was despised by many RCs for misrepresenting the Troubles and pushing London's POV.

No one was more perfectly cast as the Doctor than Tom Baker. In fact, I'd argue he was one of the most perfectly cast actors in TV history.

You are soooooooo lucky. I want to meet Tom really badly. He seems honestly down to Earth and very, very sweet.
