Totally agree, wish this group was still together. Not completely objective, as I'd played with Gary Thomas -- a brilliant and under-appreciated saxophonist from Baltimore
I know Gary recorded with and collaborated with Coleman and other "M-base" associated musicians, I think his tenor tone and attack have a lot more resemblance to tenor man Billy Harper (frecorded with Thad Jones/Mel Lewis, Art Blakey and as a bandleader in his own right).
@Gnarly669 ça passait vers 1h du matin le dimanche ou le lundi soir maintenant ça passe plus du tout c'est sur, mais avant il y avait pas de chaines comme mezzo par exemple, ni youtube !
got this cd it good to see this live thanks for posting
IMO, the best of John McLaughlin's ensembles since the original Mahavishnu Orchestra. Intense and creative.

Who's the bass player? He and Dennis Chambers on drums are laying a solid foundation! I Love This!
Matthew Garrison
Bassist is Matthew Garrison -- son of the late Jimmy Garrison, John Coltrane's bassist

He did -- was with Steve Coleman both on 5 Elements and Jack DeJohnette's band of the 1980s and 1990s

what a guitar sound, part of Miles' sore-throat horn is there
@andyyhitscar I would pay good money to see Slash so much as attempt something like this... even if just to put him in his place.
@rexasul that's why slash is in the path he is. leave him to his own and leave this sort of mastery to such people as John.
i think thats every rock stars dream. have at least once concert to play just dissonance and noise
