    The thing I love about all of your videos, Jared , is that you're quick and to the point. In the 8-15 minute range without 30 additional minutes of fluff. And every thing you share is so useful. Best 'RV' guy on TH-cam.
    Thank you. First time I've said it, but it applies to all of your content.

    We have the GEN-Y Gooseneck hitch and love it. It did take about 1000 miles to break in so don't exect a big difference right from the start. But once it's broken in you'll love the way it rides. Great video as always. Safe travels amigo!!

    I have a Keystone Alpine, and I had cracks on the outside skin due to frame flex. After I got it repaired (Keystone stepped up and covered it without questions), I asked the tech at the shop if changing my pinbox for a Gen-Y would help. He said it couldn't hurt so I bought the same one you have. Works great! I liked Gen-Y for the reasons you said, and also because it was much more cost effective than the other brands. I love it. As always, thanks for these useful videos. Keep on keeping on!

    Have had my Gen-Y gooseneck for my Reflection for 5 years. It has been great! I wouldn't have any other set up and have told so many others about it. Seems to me with the frame issues, so many having problems with the standard pin box, switching to the Gen-Y isn't a hitch problem, it's a frame engineering problem. Great video as always...safe travels

    My brother had a king pin on his 5th wheel for years and actually towed our RV home for us. It was the only time I ever used it. As soon as it was home I swapped it for a Reese 20k goosebox. Never looked back after that. Sure, It's a little more difficult to hook up but man, having my entire truck bed free just by turning over the B&W turnoverball... priceless. Not voiding the warranty was also a plus.

    Contacted Lippert who then referred me to Forest River.
    Forest River told me late last year that it would void the warranty if I chose the Gen-Y. But it would not if I chose the MORryde. Since I have not upgraded yet, I think I need to attempt another contact with Forest River. The Gen-Y to me appears to handle the bumpy roads better, where the MORryde appears to be more for starting and stopping.
    Thanks for all the great short to the point videos.

    Just installed ours just a week ago! Absolutely love it. Don't even feel bumps when our 5th goes over bumps! Highly recommend it especially with bigger 5th wheels. This guy is a beast doing the install all by himself!

    Hey Jared and crew. I too weighed the different options. I ended up picking the Reese Goosebox hitch. We have it on our GD 31MB. It’s the 20k version and probably over 25k miles now. I personally like the air bag. I really like having my bed open for what ever once we get to our destination. I really only have to add air if it’s been a big change in temperatures or if it’s sat for some time. I have to get in the bed anyway to hook up our dc to dc cord and light pigtail so whats one more thing. I honestly think anything is better than the factory solid mount pin boxes.

    I think you'll love the Gen-Y. Warranty companies will try any angle to deny...since length wouldn't be an issue I could see a possible denial due to weight difference. 🤷🏻‍♂
    As always, Thank you Jared!

    I too made the upgrade to the Gen Y fifthwheel pin box on my 44' Road Warrior Toyhauler. It along with my B & W Companion hitch are an Awesome combination in my Ford F450. Just want to echo what you said about making sure the Gen Y model matches up with the "pin weight" of your specific trailer

    I recently upgraded to a new 5th wheel trailer. I had the dealership add on the GenY gooseneck ball hitch to it before I took ownership. I was very happy with it and the first 1000 miles were not a problem. It just simply got better. I love how the trailer is not transferring every bump to the truck and how much smoother the ride has become. Definitely would recommend the GenY over a traditional hitch.
    Thanks for sharing,
    Pat

    I don't doubt it will make a difference compared to a solid steel pinbox. They higher end grand design come with the morryde rubber pinbox. Does't do much for the up and down, however, helps with the chucking. Not sure I like the idea of the torsion design for the pin box, if the rubber fails what is stopping the trailer from dropping on your bed?

    The pinbox can only absorb so much, the real solution is the hitch itself. Energy absorbing hitches are the key. Find a hitch like Trailer Saver or other that uses air bags or similar to isolate the impact of the trailer during travel.

    My 2006 Lance 1181 camper has begun to gut itself. The framing that holds the tanks has failed so when I try to put the camper up on the jacks, the tanks, if they're full, will drop right out of the bottom of the camper. It's already cracked the line to the fresh water tank. Basically supporting my feeling that all RVs are garbage over time. I'm shopping for a new used one because I can still replace a camper with a used one every 10 years and spend way less on it than on the same period of time of just my former property taxes. Even a new one and spend far less. But who that's paying attention are buying new ones? I'm kind of excited to take it off the truck to see just how screwed up it is now. RVs are not designed to be used full time. Every year you live in one puts 6 years worth of wear on them. It's like dog years... Mine is almost at 10 years this coming new year. It wasn't used year round until I bought it in 2015.

    Selecting the correct Gen-Y pin box model is dependent on knowing the measured pin weight. Gen-Y uses a formula based on the trailer GVWR to select the correct pin box model. However, if the trailer’s pin weight is actually heavier than the 22%-trailer-GVWR formula, you will select the wrong model from Gen-Y. My Vanleigh Vilano pin weight was measured at 28% of trailer GVWR and, therefore needed a larger Gen-Y pin box. Recommend measuring the pin weight to select the right pin box model, not using the formula approach to select the right model.

      Ive scaled my trailer multiple times. Fully loaded i have 2300 pounds of pin weight and they kept saying I needed a 4500 pound instead of 3500, i said I cant have 3500 pounds as it would put my truck over the legal limit, so why wouldn’t 3500 pounds, their smallest one, I couldn’t get an answer

    • @mark.laffin
      @mark.laffin หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ Ask Gen-Y for an engineering answer to your question; the first-line phone reps only know what their script tells them to say. Going with a larger model Gen-Y pin box will not increase the pin weight resting on your truck. A larger pin box will not be sufficiently loaded for you to get any benefit from the torsion feature of the pin box.

    • @BetaRacer24
      @BetaRacer24 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ your last sentence was basically what I was getting at with them about going to a higher rating. They used their % math and I said you can do that because every trailer is different. Im at the max pin load that XLR states for my camper at 2300.

    Jared, I sold RV's for 17 years, when a customer would ask me about "voiding the warranty" when changing out the pin box to anything else, I told them "no problem, just save the old pin box". If anything happens to the frame just put the old pin box back on prior to making your claim. Boom.....avoids any questions.

  • @OlanHodges
    @OlanHodges หลายเดือนก่อน

    Did your pin weight end up being pretty high? I noticed you got the 30k version which has a required pin weight of 2000-4500 which I figured out RV would have taken the 21k model which has a pin weight of 1500-3500. Just curious on your selection criteria is all as you might be considering something I am not thinking of.

    What kills me in this is that Lippert will talk about the "20%" but I measured a Goosebox (approved by Lippert) and the Gen Y gooseneck and they are the same length. It seems as though this whole thing with Lippert and approved pin boxes is a money thing. They came out with the Curt product that is supposed to be the next best thing but you cannot buy it. All of them are going on OEM 5th wheels and not sold directly to the public. Which is crap.

  • @dannydaugherty527
    @dannydaugherty527 หลายเดือนก่อน

    if you know anything about physics the best fifth wheel connection is straight up and down, the pin boxes they have now that extend out puts a lot of weight on the frame as torque, as an example take a bolt and try turning it with your fingers, then take the bolt and put a torque wrench on it, and see how easy it is to twist the bolt, then look at the pin box and add the weight that the pin box adds to the frame from the torque of the pin box sticking way out, the frame will always flex, if the pin was straight up and down you don't get the flex, but unfortunately they don't build them with a straight up and down pin because you can't get a truck with an eight foot bed anymore, so to me with all the frame flex issues you can blame the truck manufacturers and the government

    I by no means have any solid information for this, but my gut tells me that Gen Y threatened legal action for anti competitive business practices, so Lippert can't say it will void the warranty. Given that Lippert now owns the rights to the Goosebox, they can't say that a competitive product would void the warranty without some firm reason why it would.
