A great video. The changing of the world is not going to be great for everyone. Things, people, ideas, they all get old and eventually wither and die. Today's big seller with be tomorrows garage sale bin. That is just the nature of our world. But that doesn't mean we cant learn a few things from the past. This man's perspective is very honest and straight forward. If nothing else, i can admire that.

These small businesses are what need to thrive, but the big ones are crushing them, LONG LIVE MOM'N POP SHOPS!

This film is so well done that I've watched it over and over again and always catch something I missed the time before.

This was great, I almost wanted to go down there, hug him, then buy every comic he didn't want in the store from him. Well, the last one is just because I need some new comics, but whatever!

I worked for Dora and Joe back in the 80s and I was so happy to come across this today. It's a very nice documentary and captures Joe very well. I can remember him imparting his wisdom to me every day that I worked there. He was especially vexed with me because I would make $40 and then spend $50... "What are you buying this s**t for?"
    One of a kind.

Really well done! I just found out about this film. I've been seeing Joe every month at the local Clifton, NJ comic show for years! Had no idea he even had a shop. Very cool to see this, something to talk about with him next time I see him.

I grew up buying my comics from "Jerry" and his wife Dora/Doris. First in a little indoor flea market in Astoria, then at QP's (Queens Plaza Market Place) and then at the store. He was ALWAYS a cranky, mean old man with a heart of gold. Seeing them every week as I grew up was like watching a sitcom, they were both wonderful, colorful characters. In 1984 Jerry told me to buy this new Independent book called "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" because it was a fun book, and he told me to buy extra copies because "the kids are gonna go crazy for this, in other words, when it's worth something, you owe me money for getting you to buy them". He wasn't lying- he convinced me and a friend to buy multiple copies of those early issues which have exploded in value over the last 3 decades. I still have a bunch of them left that I slowly let out when I need some cash, which was his favorite way of doing business. After the store closed, he kind of disappeared but I think about him and his little wife all the time, and I can still hear his cranky old man voice in my head. Now I can actually see and hear him again, and it is such a wonder to behold. They don't make them like this anymore, that's for sure.

This was interesting. Everyone assumes Comic Book stores go out with a bang. Money can run out and this can be true, but I think most comic book stores (and small businesses in general) go out with a whimper. I wonder what it would have been like if he had found someone with the same passion for the hobby to "buy" him out and keep the business running. He would stay on as the "manager", but the day to day operations would be run by someone else. Would this have kept his business open longer (and I bet the amazing group of loyal customers he built up over the years to continue buying from him) or would this have just delayed the inevitable?

Joe's a beauty but if he were to embrace technology instead of neglecting it - he could probably sell all of those comic books in a week on an online store.

+Darcy Ujjainwalla (Kazabazua) But, at his age, Joe was wary of it. It also probably didn't help that the look of the store inside wasn't exactly friendly to any new comic book fan. If you own/manage a comic book store, it has to look nice nowadays, not like something cross between a 99 cent store and an adult entertainment shop. I went there four years ago, and he guessed my age range.

Yeah, but there was a real charm to these kind of stores in the 80's and 90's..it's hard to explain. It's like Rock bands from the 60's: They just played great music without all the glitter.
