    I had a 2005 Odyssey with 239,000 miles when I sold it. The buyer loves it. I currently have a 2007 Odyssey with 202,000 miles. I use it daily. children drop off/ pickup, grocery runs, sporting events, camping trips, interstate road trips, beach trips (bike, surf board, umbrellas, chairs, fishing equipment inside).

    Recently lost an 01 after 16 years. A guy cut my son off and it was a total loss. My son broke down at the scene, we bought it when he was only a few months old. He was driving abs when I got to the scene he said "I started it and I ended it," Before breaking down in tears 😢. We replaced 01 with an 08 today. Already in love. Well done... Excellent Vehicle. Scotty Kilmer says to get a Sienna as the Tranny's on the Honda's have unreliable Tranny's... He's not realizing that that was for the 2000-04 model. The 05 and above have an upgraded MUCH better tranny, totally reliable. I just bought a 2009 w/198k at auction for $1900 including fees. Has an engine noise (Video of it disclosed that, and it's the timing tensioner) Changed the WP and timing belt before driving today, now NO NOise and it runs EXCELLENT! $40k van for $2500! Leather and Sunoof, VERY Little rust which I took care of for $40 for the pint of color paint. Perfect VAN!

    Key is add a TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER to whatever Honda V6 you have. The key to success. I also added rubbershocks (placed in between spring coils) in the rear, LED lights, VCM Muzzler (so the ECO doesn't come on.--Always driving on 6 cylinders. This saves your engine and transmission mounts. Engine runs smooth all the time).

Will take to 250k miles at this point w/ the vcm disabled. Do a drain/fill on the trans every 15k after 80k miles and the transmission will last 300k miles.

      You can install a ceramic resistor (20watt 80ohm) in series with the coolant thermostat. Your VCM will not ever come on. About 8 dollars on Amazon. I believe the VCM tuner is about $100. A 6 cylinder engine should run on all 6. You do not save any money by having the car back down to four cylinders. You will spend a lot more than that for repair bills. I installed this resistor 2 years ago.I have excellent pickup at 70 mph. Go to it. 45 minute job with no special tools .

    Your VCM is probably reducing your airflow by planting oil in your catalytic convertors, there are 3 of them, and the rear bank and possibly downstream cat are getting plugged up. Happened with my son's 05 Odyssey. New cats and a VCM Muzzler have made a huge difference.

    One other technical point here my friend… On the EX-L and touring models the engine has the “VCM” System which deactivates the rear three cylinders of the engine for better fuel economy. Honda also put a lot of thought into that with special solenoid engine mount dampeners as well as inside with and acoustic noise canceling system through the stereo speakers to avoid hearing the lumbering three cylinders that are activated only using cruise control or at cruising speed. That’s a nice looking van my friend. I bet you have tons and tons of great memories in it.

    I drove some newer vehicles and feel bumps but not in the Odyssey 2006 EX L model the leather seats are very comfortable put in a GPS with 2 TV with blue tooth and phone, the safety I added rear an front cameras. Also other standard features like air bags side 8 passenger sunroof and front driver extra cup holders throughout are great for trips and space a lazy Suzy type box under floor gives it extra space. Also like the single press or hold key fob to pull all windows down in summer remotely and having a real theft alarm rather then holding a panic button. The power is good 245hp as long as one maintains it with proper regular checkups.

    Had an 05 with 320k. Got it with 157k changed timing belt every 100k. What a pleasure to drive! Then made the missake of buying a 2011 touring--- it handles horribly! The suspension bounces on the road-- the steering is feather- light, and would do horribly to avoid a deer--- bring me back my 2005- 2010 model. Come on Honda--- how could you go from the best handling van to the worst in one generation!!!???

    • @markleckband4495
      @markleckband4495 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This generation was definitely peak odyssey. Very Acura like in terms of quality and interior luxury. You’re not the only one to notice the degradation in steering quality. Car and driver stated the Chrysler counterpart actually steered better. I did like how it lost weight and the interior was more functional. The maintenance was better in addition to being way faster.

      Huh... Youre speaking a foreign language, i owned an 07 exl for 4 years, about 15 months ago bought a 16 touring elite which absolutely runs rings around that 07. Handles so solid, its a little stiff for s minivan but I drive fast and like that. Steering is s little heavier than the 07, brakes are much easier to stop.
      Maybe that 5 years they made changes but its a much better vehicle, and is a lot more reliable than my 3rd gen.
      I took the 2nd and 3rd row seats out, probably doing 7 seconds 0-60!

    wait until you need to do a ring job for cylinders 1;2;3 on a iVTEC VCM engine. They are notorious with burning oil prematurely at 122K. Check Honda service bulletin 13-085. The rings need to be replaced because of a defect with the engineering design of the iVTEC VCM engine. Honda lost a class action law suite for the 2008-2010 engines. Honda has issued a 8 -year warranty to allow owners to bring in their vehicles to replace the rings. Good luck

  • @obiewancoyote
    @obiewancoyote 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is going to come off a bit ranty but, I actually work on my own vehicles. First and foremost, Honda seems to give you just enough space to manipulate whatever replaceable component your fiddling with. We may be speaking in terms of a blonde hair or enough space to see daylight. I bought mine with a 140k on it and she's now sitting with 214k. For the first two years it was under an extended warranty. So I got a free A/C compressor, timing belt & water pump, and harmonic balancer replacement.
    Since then I've swapped out an AGM battery, two alternators, both outer CV axles, a starter, and I'm in the process of swapping out my engine/transmission mounts. The rear transmission mount is a PITA in my experience and beware the battery tray assembly. The battery tray is not well finished and has many sharp edges. Most other sheet metal surfaces on my van have been well finished in my opinion (sharp edges have been filed or removed).
    I've long since run a RCA to 3.5mm cable from the rear A/V connection up front for a cheap Bluetooth solution. There are components that you can salvage from a 2010 Odyssey or fleaBay kits available. I'm highly debating swapping my van for something more fuel efficient or customizing it for my preferences. I'm not sure a manual swap and stripping out the A/V gear for something more modern and upgrade-able. The stock navigation/backup camera screen is useless during the day in AZ summer sunlight. Navigation being a yearly update charge of $100 or more is laughable. I've been surprised at the ability to maneuver off road with this van. However, it can't get up an old set of maintenance ramps without popping off the front bumper cover. Overall, it's a stout and fairly dependable little van. I'm just thinking I want to switch over to something cheaper and swap to something with a barn style rear door.

    I'm going to chime-in here and say Scotty Kilmer is both annoying and wrong.... a lot. The one episode I watched of his involved heavily criticizing a 700K Lexus SC430. How does anyone get away with degrading a car that has managed to go 700K? I'll also go along with the excellent handling of the 2005-10 edition of the Odyssey too. I have driven the newer generation Odyssey's and the handling does not compare. The Sienna was also good, but you could only get AWD in the full boat (read expensive) top of the line model, which was the main reason to even consider the Sienna over the Odyssey. I don't know why Honda never offered it in AWD., which would have meant a lot of extra sales. I also own a 2021 Pilot, which is great, but it doesn't have a lot of room for passengers or cargo.
