    I went here in Jan 2019 and it is one of my most favorite memories. An unforgettable experience and I still love my elephant to this day. I hope I get to see her again sometime soon.

    I am blown away by this - what a wonderful way to spend a day and really experience these wonderful animals in a non-exploitative way. Full marks to the tribe for doing this. Thanks for sharing.

      Moira O'Brien We're very impressed with what the tribe is doing here. The stories we hear were so sad. Our guide was at an awful elephant park for 7 years and couldn't take it anymore so he's been working hard to bring this tribes elephants back and make a business that can help sustain the tribe. Elephants are a ton of work and take many people to take care of them. The story is much bigger than just a short Vlog. We're considering going back and doing s full doc on this tribe.

      That sounds like a very good idea and would certainly be very well received by the ecological fraternity.

    I went to the Karen Tribe Native Elephants at the end of January 2018. I had a phenomonal experience. I loved the elephants and it was very educational and practical. Best highlight of my trip in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Thanks for posting this video. Because of this video I flew from Melbourne to visit Thailand.

    So awesome! You can tell the tribe loves their elephants, the elephants are calm and happy.

    • @JevenDovey
      @JevenDovey  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stacy Dovey the elephants were very happy. We never felt unsafe around them. Always had their ears flapping and by the end of the day our elephant would walk right up to us and stare down with its big eye. His other eye was blind because poachers took his tusks and it caused him to go blind in one eye 😔

    • @stacydovey7766

      WanderWorx That makes the elephant experience even better to know that your elephant found a safe place to live

    • @JevenDovey
      @JevenDovey  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Stacy Dovey yeah. Some of these elephants use to be at the bad parks but this tribe is working hard to support them and bring them back here. Very cool to experience. Want to go back and do a documentary about this tribe and their story of the elephants.

    I feel so conflicted *because* I've watched so many documentaries about the horror of *riding* elephants. I see on their website that riding is allowed. I have 2 questions:
    1) are the elephants ever chained up (like at night)
    2) what technique is used to encourage their behavior....hooks and human dominance or 100% positive reinforcement?

    • @EmilyAnn
      @EmilyAnn 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No what they did was inexcusable. All these places claim to be "sanctuaries", only the ones who DON'T let patrons ride on their backs are legit. Why? Because the backs of Asian elephants aren't structurally made to carry humans so it causes damage. I feel really guilty I didn't see the previews so I could try to shut it down like I did a show on Bravo who were cool enough to pull the episode and edit out the scene without push back.

      I love Lost LeBlanc. We've heard about the Elephant Nature Park and wanted to go there as well, but it was very full. That camp is doing awesome things with the elephants. I'm glad we got to go to the Karen Tribe because we got to see another side of the industry and got to hear some amazing stories from the villagers about this topic. We are working on going back and filming a longer documentary about it.

      J Y Hardy we have to look like the trainers because we're interacting so close with the elephants. The elephants need to be comfortable with you to allow you near them.
