      WCPW was my go to before the og gang left. Then there was a gap where I wasn't really watching even WWE much outside of PPVs and shows I was able to attend live. Then I discovered GCW and Hoodslam. So I still love independent Wrestling

    WhatCulture in 2016 got me back into wrestling in general and of course helped me expand into watching indie stuff for the first time. Was a great time and you guys had a real impact in the world of professional wrestling for a bit, extremely cool to have lived through it .

    A tremendous promotion. It was a small promotion, but It really introduced me to british and European Wrestling (Revpro, Progress ICW, WXW Germany).

    WCPW was my first exposure to any pro wrestling product outside of WWE. 2016 Whatculture Wrestling's attitude of "WWE sucks, we can do it better" initially came off as brash to a then-lifelong WWE fan like me because I didn't know what l was really out there outside that bubble, but the announcement of WCPW enticed me heavily and I was invested from the get-go. Seeing my favorite TH-cam presenters brimming with enthusiasm as they booked their own shows, participated in bigger storylines, and tried to give the fans what they want with a meager budget and limited production was inspiring, almost magical in how it all came together.
    At first, I didn't know anybody outside WWE, and me being exposed to the likes of Martin Kirby, Big Damo, Joe Hendry, Joseph Conners, Marty Scurll, Will Ospreay, and Zack Sabre Jr. for the first time expanded my understanding of what pro wrestling could and should be. The initial hype then brought in familiar faces like Kurt Angle, Cody Rhodes, Drew Galloway, and Rey Mysterio, and seeing the huge stars support this once small idea from a TH-cam channel turned me from a WWE fan into a pro wrestling fan.
    Though times have changed and people have moved on to bigger things, I'll never forget my first experience with the wider world of professional wrestling, and that was thanks to all of you chaps. I would've never discovered and enjoyed AEW, NJPW, Impact, AAA, CMLL, Stardom, and all the other promotions without the lightning in a bottle that was WCPW. From the bottom of my heart, to everybody who worked at WCPW, thank you.

      Do you know the circumstances behind some of the other omissions(Swords of Essex, Ligero, Coffey, etc). I never heard of a falling out between the parties so I don’t know why certain wrestlers weren’t included.

    • @Pocalem
      @Pocalem 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@patrickkennedy3878 Ligero was one mentioned in the abuse allegations during the time Starr/Banks and such, iirc. I think because the focus from Swords was Will and Bea, thats why they didnt include Paul or Scott. Coffey, I honestly don't remember him doing much, even in Prestige.

    Like me some WCPW reminiscing, as it was about the only wrestling I was able to watch at the time (having just moved for work, and a mate I'd simuwatch WWE with had some problems that stopped that) and despite not going to a live show or anything feel a bit like I was "there" for it. This vid brought up a lot that I'd also forgotten, or thought I had done.

  • @patrickkennedy3878
    @patrickkennedy3878 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Anyone know the specifics for why they didn’t mention guys such as Primate? Did the guys have some kind of falling out with any of the wrestlers when they left? I was confused by the part when they said they wouldn’t mention certain wrestlers.

    • @The1AndOnlyGoldenboy
      @The1AndOnlyGoldenboy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of the people they didn't mention had controversies and shenanigans. I'll point out who I can recall and what they've done.
      Joe Coffey - Alleged behavior involving stalking, harassment, and sending unsolicited photographs
      El Ligero - Sent suggestive texts to teen girls, alleged SA that's also directed towards teen girls
      Travis Banks - Coerced Millie/Emilia McKenzie into a relationship despite being underaged, likely did so with other girls as well
      Alberto El Patron - Cheated on his wife with Paige, likely abused both of them, and has had multiple instances of "alleged" battery, SA, and coercion through drug use brought against him. Also, there was that whole thing were he possibly kidnapped someone and used his family connections to coerce them into dropping the case.
      Marty Scurll - Had sex with a teen girl
      Kimber Lee - All the drama surrounding her messy breakup and impending divorce with Zach Wentz/Nash Carter
      Scott Wainwright and Paul Robinson - allegations about blacklisting for denying sexual favors, inappropriate messages with teen girls, and coercing sex from girls (both under and of adult age)
      David Starr - Admitted to SA with several of his former girlfriends
      Jimmy Havoc - Abused one of his exes, blamed heavy drug use
      Matt Riddle - Accused of SA by girl that he cheated with, charges were found to have no merit though
      Austin Aries - Multiple accusations of various kinds of abuse
      Tessa Blanchard - Racist, bully, and all around unprofessional shit stain of a human
      All of them worked in WCPW (pre-Defiant) and definitely shouldn't have been mentioned. Millie McKenzie was probably omitted simply due to them not wanting to talk about Banks, but anyone else they probably forgot about or didn't have enough appearances to be memorable in the first place.

    Big thumbs up to Ross with the Arthur reference at the start. I knew it instantly before it was talked about thus aging me big time!

      They had just left **NAME REDACTED** and so mentioning them was probably more taboo at that time. They likely wanted to distance themselves from that anyway.

    I don’t think we would’ve gotten AEW and NXT UK without the influence of WCPW.
