Austin started the Attitude Era and his best years were 97-98 and some of early 99 with Rock for the title. Rock was already a top heel with the Nation in 97 and his popularity just grew to superstardom year after year, even after the attitude era ended! It can also be said that Rock kept the company afloat singlehandedly in 2000 while Austin was away, making him the more important superstar in the attitude era.

Ahmed Johnson was amazing. From his promo battle against Farook, where he's wearing a bum bag and screaming and you have zero clue what he's saying, but you believe him.
To the giant plank he used to carry to thing ring... I mean, this wasn't a Hacksaw Jim Duggan 2x4, this was an unnecessarily enormous plank.
To all the times where he'd launch himself screaming through the air, with absolutely no idea what he was going to do when he landed.
To the time he Pearl River Plunged D'Lo onto the roof of a car.
To the time he body slammed Yokozuna.
He was truly amazing. Some wrestlers overcome their short stature to make it big in the industry, he overcame his complete lack of competence, and entertained the masses.

I think Linda got pops because people, as weird as this will sound in the Attitude Era, were genuinely being appreciative. I was born in 97 so I didn’t experience the era, only gone back and watched. But after a few appearances, every time she came on my screen, it would pop me a little. I saw an old woman who looked very unsure and clearly out of her comfort zone and all I could think was “GO ON LINDA!” And having binged the era back to back, I actually feel like she noticeably had gotten more comfortable with being an on screen character as time passed. But I also think her being a politician who obviously couldn’t endorse all of WWF’s antics back then definitely hampered any chance she had at actually doing anything of note as a character

Very enjoyable and good list! Only things I’d change
    1) Should have put Edge and Christian together as they were still together at WrestleMania X7, so should go into The Best
    2) Unfair on Rikishi, reason he got that main event push was due to how over he was with Too Cool
    3) Chyna should be in Lovely, Lovely, Lovely not the best. She almost got Chris Jericho fired according to his book and couldn’t work. Looked back more fondly than perhaps deserved

Great list. However, I do disagree on Jericho. As you mentioned, he had the feud with Benoit, and that was great, but he also had a feud for the title with Triple H where he won it for a night on Raw and the crowd went absolutely ballistic. I think he should have been bottom of the Best

IMO the Attitude era started with the "Raw is War" logo which debuted like 1 or 2 weeks before Wrestlemania 13 in 1997. But as a way to forego that technicality, I personally just say that the Attitude era truly started with the Stone Cold vs. Bret Hart match at Wrestlemania 13. As for when the era ends, I'd say it was with the brand split in 2002. And to forego that technicality, I say that it ended with The Rock vs. Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania 18 in 2002.

It's obvious why Linda got cheered the way she did if you pay attention at all to the role she played. It doesn't matter that she wasn't a good performer, she was the one "good" authority figure with the power to oppose the other "evil" McMahons. Of course the crowds were going to pop when she came out, because it nearly always meant that something beneficial for a babyface was going to happen.

Survivor Series is the start of the Attitude Era. It is the first time we ever see the WWF scratch logo, the first time we get a WWF Attitude commercial (which ironically included Bret Hart), and the first time we ever hear the D-Generation X music (which was used to promote the December PPV). It’s also the last time we see Bret Hart, the man who is the most synonymous with the New Generation Era, and he gets screwed for real on his way out the door. That’s as Attitude as it gets.

Would be cool to see a combined list of WCW and WWF during the monday night wars.
Have to say that I strongly disagree with putting HHH above Undertaker in the Attitude era. HHH only became top heel while Undertaker was out with a long-term injury. The fact is that Taker and Austin drew the highest tv rating ever for the WWF in 1999 together. I also feel that Hart and Michaels should be interchangeable/on the same level. Both played enormous roles in the beginnings of the era.
