What kills me is that all 'corporate radio' will play from these guys is 'Don't You Forget About Me' a good Simple Minds song but songs like 'Ghost Dancing' 'Oh Jungleland' 'Sanctify Yourself', 'Book Of Brilliant Things' and 'Waterfront' which all blow that one song away never get played. Simple Minds has amazing and huge catalog and all we ever hear on the radio is one song.....
I can't begin to tell you how many times I played this in my bedroom as a young man, on vinyl of course! Absolutely the best track in this album and I haven't forgotten any of the words. My kids always crack up when I sing along to this. Hopefully when they're 50, they will do the same with their kids. Thanks for the upload!
I wrote down the lyrics in my little notebook, stopping it every few seconds to jot them down. Did my best: "the car went broke, we're rattling so slow, giddyup and you hit me with a stupid banner seagull". Something like that anyway.
I am 25 years young and played it on vinyl yesterday (Philips stereo Music center 974 Mark II with Bang & Olufsen Beovox S75) I will keep the old generation and songs alive! 💪🏻
I totally agree, there is not one dud song on the entire album & I've worn out several "Once upon a time" cassettes listening to it ; I was so hopeful that Simple Minds wouldn't fall victim to the 3 hit curse that has happened to several other bands in the past ( if a band has more than 3 hits on a single album - they never fully recover or top that album ) anyway, thumbs up to you for the post & your appreciation for great music 🎶

Heard Don’t You Forget About Me randomly a few months ago and thought I should give an album of theirs a shot, there’s no way this is the only “good” song of theirs. Downloaded this album, and I’ve literally been listening to it end over end for the past few months. It’s an INCREDIBLE album. Hate I didn’t discover this sooner.
Incredible era thanks to incredible albums like this one and fresh moving movies like Breakfast Club or The St. Elmo's Fire :') My heart remains 80's forever.
I always thought Ghostdancing was from one of their much earlier albums, from a time before they became a worldwide commercial success. I was pleasantly surprised that it is from the Once Upon A Time album.
Came from poor parents in Glasgow, this is the first album I bought with pocket money and money delivering papers back in 85 from a record shop in Duke St. Still have it now, need to prise it from my cold dead fingers.💀
I only wish new music sounded this good. I remember 80's so well, what a great time with so many remarkable artists and fresh new music. What do we have nowadays? S**t music, that's what it is
Well, when it comes to so many musical tastes, it is impossible for everyone to enjoy listening to the same music. What is, like you say "great stuff out there" now, it does not compare to music from past years. It is what it is. @@Mind-your-own-beeswax
Cities, buildings falling down Satellites come crashing down I see them falling out the skies like eagles All mirrored glass and shattered egos But in a corner of the world we'd meet to laugh and drink and plan our sequels 'Cause in the alleyways and bars downtown They're singing up from here to there can we go This city comes alive at night, see these city walls are heaving And if these old city walls should crash, amid the rubble you'd find us breathing Come say what you see in me 'Cause boy, I believe in you Come say what you're seeing All gone just ghost dancing, going all the way through You talk about the Lebanon You tell me 'bout the Dawn in Eden You talk about South Africa I tell you about the Irish children You say one more Polish Knight could come and blow away the doors to Freedom And if Mother Ethiopia could blow away the tears that we see run O blow them away, Blow, blow away We will blow them away O blow, blow away Blow, blow away Blow, blow away Come say what you see in me 'Cause boy, I believe in you Come say what you're seeing They're all gone just ghost dancing, going all the way through You know I believe in you Oh yes I believe, you know I believe in you You say you believe I believe, I believe, going all the way through, yeah Come take me back home, come on and take me away Ghost Dancing The car pulled up, the girl she jumped in The boy he wore a medal that was shining from his skin With the windows pulled up, their radio tuned in She's hitting from the stars, he's hitting for the moon She said, one last kiss while you look across the Land Move it into overdrive and take me by my hand When the car broke, the rebels saw smoke And they all went to heaven in a stupid fantasy, go Take me away
This was the song that was playing when I saw the Challenger shuttle explosion disaster live in 1986, which freaked me out, especially considering the lyrics. Then I wrote a song about it.

"Once Upon a Time" - 5:44"All the Things She Said" - 4:16"Ghost Dancing" - 4:46"Alive and Kicking" - 5:25"Oh Jungleland" - 5:12"I Wish You Were Here" - 4:42"Sanctify Yourself" - 4:57"Come a Long Way" - 5:09 Still Play This From October 1985 -2016
I know there are many different views but to me once Mel Gaynor jouned , Simple Minds took on a more rock swagger and were all the better for it. The guy's a beast and maybe in that era only Jimmy Chamberlain from the Pumpkins could shade him.
Like others posting here I too thought this song was a dead ringer for U2's "When the Streets Have No Name" both in terms of the guitar and the vocal style.....only to discover that WTSHNN came out in 1987. This song is from 1985. hmmmm..........!
Carissa Conti I agree that the very beginning of this tune sounds a bit like Where The Streets Have No Name. I like this song. It's just that Streets is an all-time great. Having said, I believe that U2 considered the New Gold Dream album to be an influence as they worked on The Unforgettable Fire LP. It is quite likely that Ghostdancing was an a starting point for The Edge as he composed Streets.
U2 copied pretty much everything Simple Minds did in the 80's. Even the album cover colour. Look at the cover of The Joshua Tree. Black, Gold and White... wonder where they got that idea from.

Steve O i agree
Hi2 dead right ...on my husband’s behalf!
Funny, just heard that on radio at work few hours ago and this was playing in ma head
Quite right. You can count “Come a Long Way” as well.
Right Steve O. This band made a lot of great songs. I have no one favorite. I have a list of Simple Minds songs.
Mel Gaynor..........i cannot begin to describe how good you're drumming is in this song!!! absolutely perfect!!
Saw Simple Minds with U2 Big Country and Eurythmics Dublin 1983 brilliant gig

It's a reworking of I Travel from Empires and Dance
I am 25 years young and played it on vinyl yesterday (Philips stereo Music center 974 Mark II with Bang & Olufsen Beovox S75) I will keep the old generation and songs alive! 💪🏻
This is my favourite album...I play this one all the time...❤
Me too
Brilliant album
Best Simple Minds studio album 👍👍👏

Oustanding masterpiece from by this musical group that I adore
This is beyond a doubt the best album of music I've ever heard; truly hypnotic.

When I randomly heard this album, it totally blew me away too.

72free soul good thing Jim Kerr didn't sing in Glesgea then.
Incredible era thanks to incredible albums like this one and fresh moving movies like Breakfast Club or The St. Elmo's Fire :') My heart remains 80's forever.
Best Simple Minds track ever.
last 2 minutes are epic truly great musicians
Simple Minds Love The 1980'S
My all time favourite band.
Love the bonus bit from 4:03 onward "Take me away...some sweet day...." :)
Oh yes.
I always thought Ghostdancing was from one of their much earlier albums, from a time before they became a worldwide commercial success. I was pleasantly surprised that it is from the Once Upon A Time album.
It's a sequel to...I Travel... If you listen to live bootlegs from 84 etc..they put the lyrics to ghostdancing to the tune of I Travel.
Came from poor parents in Glasgow, this is the first album I bought with pocket money and money delivering papers back in 85 from a record shop in Duke St.
Still have it now, need to prise it from my cold dead fingers.💀
Such a great guitar riff, the sounds make me feel like solid Gold is just falling from the sky it’s so epic
Love how it builds to a crescendo 3:20 - 3:48, then the final minute - take me away....blow me away.
Unbelievable the kick you get out of this track still nowadays
Yup. That.
Still struggling to get the meaning of it, but genius indeed.
Why is this song so irresistible?
Cracking song, had this album, brilliant
The closing instrumental is amazing.
Yes, absolutely. Exactly what I'm thinking hearing the song...
0:35 Jim's 'Ahaa'....chills man.
I still have the cassette.
I only wish new music sounded this good. I remember 80's so well, what a great time with so many remarkable artists and fresh new music. What do we have nowadays? S**t music, that's what it is
Incorrect. You just need to know where to look for new music. Avoid the charts as that’s shit but there’s loads of great stuff out there.
Well, when it comes to so many musical tastes, it is impossible for everyone to enjoy listening to the same music. What is, like you say "great stuff out there" now, it does not compare to music from past years. It is what it is.

Used to fall asleep to this whole album back in the 80's
Me too.
And me..
me too :) I'd save it till Friday night and look forward to it all week at school..
Cities, buildings falling down
Satellites come crashing down
I see them falling out the skies like eagles
All mirrored glass and shattered egos
But in a corner of the world we'd meet to laugh and drink and plan our sequels
'Cause in the alleyways and bars downtown
They're singing up from here to there can we go
This city comes alive at night, see these city walls are heaving
And if these old city walls should crash, amid the rubble you'd find us
breathing
Come say what you see in me
'Cause boy, I believe in you
Come say what you're seeing
All gone just ghost dancing, going all the way through
You talk about the Lebanon
You tell me 'bout the Dawn in Eden
You talk about South Africa
I tell you about the Irish children
You say one more Polish Knight could come and blow away the doors to Freedom
And if Mother Ethiopia could blow away the tears that we see run
O blow them away,
Blow, blow away
We will blow them away
O blow, blow away
Blow, blow away
Blow, blow away
Come say what you see in me
'Cause boy, I believe in you
Come say what you're seeing
They're all gone just ghost dancing, going all the way through
You know I believe in you
Oh yes I believe, you know I believe in you
You say you believe
I believe, I believe, going all the way through, yeah
Come take me back home, come on and take me away
Ghost Dancing
The car pulled up, the girl she jumped in
The boy he wore a medal that was shining from his skin
With the windows pulled up, their radio tuned in
She's hitting from the stars, he's hitting for the moon
She said, one last kiss while you look across the Land
Move it into overdrive and take me by my hand
When the car broke, the rebels saw smoke
And they all went to heaven in a stupid fantasy, go
Take me away

This was the song that was playing when I saw the Challenger shuttle explosion disaster live in 1986, which freaked me out, especially considering the lyrics. Then I wrote a song about it.

Un album de ma jeunesse !
First live performance of this song was at live aid.
It's a shame most people only know this band for Don't you
So much better than that one song.???.
Book of brilliant things live in the city of light is next level
Keep 'em coming.
If anyone has listened to the entire "Once Upon a Time" more than 220 times, then you've got me beat - otherwise, I win!

I really like SM, but have you ever heard "What goes on" Velvet Underground 🤔
Actually U2's sound is quite different to SM's. Both bands though were eclectic.@@colinflack1077
Only JUST managed to save a backyard party with a bloody hopeless DJ with this song up first. Can't argue with it.
classic no other word

Phenomenal band and album - didn't get the credit and most of the tracks didn't get the airplay they deserved.
