This is a geopolitical masterclass by Ambassador Mukerji! Informative, Insightful, Ironic, India - centric and International!! Loved it - especially the breadth of the brilliantly articulate asides from UN resolutions, historical facts, geopolitical machinations, western hypocrisy, desi diplomacy and incisive intellectual flourish !! Picasso and Shakespeare references in the condensed history of India at the UN, since 1947, the Partition, the creation of Bangladesh, the little- talked contribution of India in WWI and WWII - all subjects close to my heart. Ekkebare top notch adda of top level !! Bengalis are a class apart! 😊

A brilliant presentation. Amb. Mukerji gave a broad, learned background briefing on a complex issue. Much appreciated in helping me understand the current crisis in Ukraine.

After abstaining from the draft resolution on Ukraine, India has drawn a lot of criticism from those who are unaware of the reasons for India’s position. Conceptually, one should take a clear position. However, when the very decisions of the Security Council are influenced by the political and economic interest of the permanent members, a nation like India has the right to act in its national interest. This excellent exposition by Amb Mukerji hopefully should clear the air.

    UN is western centric.
Even alot of Indians are more interested in their own miniature knowledge being enforced than what is in the Interest of India.
Remember who stood with India when the West was against it.. India must do what is in its own interest.. nobody respects the good guy, just look at history. As anyone praised or talked about India even when it helped so much globally.
Do you see any western media show India in good light?
Wake up people, stop bashing your own nation and work for the glory of your nation.. your descendents, no matter how well they may talk English. They will always be identified as Indians...

Accountability is the operative word. When men decide matters as a group or corporation, the locus of accountability becomes vague. The men begin to do unacceptable things.

Why is the UN important to us? I think its time we parted ways with UN.

Revi, great discussion. But frankly, legalistic answers, or they did this then, etc are not really appropriate at a time when there is a blatant open attack of a sovereign county by another. It is getting to be a law of the jungle!!
