    Many people wondered why the original Tesla Giga factory, the one in Nevada, took so long to grow… in fact, it’s still not even close to the size it was supposed to be.
    Elon learned the hard way that tax breaks don’t add up to much if the manpower you need refuses to drive that far to go to work.
    Notice he did not make that mistake a second time… Shanghai 24.8 million, Berlin 3.6 million, Austin 1.2 million, Monterrey 5.2 million.
    Now, imagine he gets a great factory location, cheap on taxes, lotsa power, lotsa water, nothing environmentally to worry about, lotsa space to build and expand, near rail, waterways and airports… but low population… NO PROBLEM!

    I'm glad this went into more detail. I found it somewhat annoying that people seemed to expect optimus to magically have human-level hand dexterity with one degree of freedom per finger. I'm a big Optimus fan, but let's keep it real. To get human dexterity, you need to maybe double the actuator count.

    • @peopleofearth6250

    @FoamyDave ปีที่แล้ว +9

    A bit after the 1 hour mark, Herbert asked how the Kuka robot communicates with Tesla Bot. During Investor Day it was mentioned that they had installed a 5G network on the factory floor. This is one of the advantages of 5G, it can work over many bands and bandwidths and it also has many modes to support low latency factory floor operations. I suspect all equipment including Tesla Bot will operate over the 5G factory network.

    Another key point is replaceability. If a normal manufacturing robot goes down it takes a lot more time, effort and money to replace. They are usually designed for a very narrow specific task. If a Tesla Bot breaks and you have hundreds or thousands of Tesla Bots in the factory, then you can just load the new program and replace the broken one with his buddy robot. Now there’s almost no down time, which in the manufacturing process, is everything!

  • @Kenlwallace
    @Kenlwallace ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Absolutely agree with Scott. Optimus in a factory is easy compared to FSD and they’re really easy to make compared to cars. By Q4 automated assembly probably ramped up, so lots of working Optimus’s. The ‘street’ can’t see what’s coming because its never happened before. At $10k cost and $100k sell x 1 million PA = $90 Billion profit PA. At a PE of 20, that adds $1.8 Trillion to market cap in maybe five years. But there’ll be nearly infinite demand. So ramping production to 10M PA means order of $18 Trillion market cap, or $6,000 share price not including cars and energy … FFS!

    Terrific discussion/explanation! We are impressed by these early efforts but like toddlers these machines are going to master fine motor skills rapidly. It’s gonna get wild and much faster than most of us think.

    The low hanging fruit expands considerably when it includes basic manual functions for other non-automotive products within Tesla. Then, the real savings multiplys exponentially once Optimus starts reaching for the prime fruit further up the tree!

    Scott: I believe that Tesla may have iterated through 500 robots by the end of the year but they will have recycled 400 of them, this process will continue until the robots are advanced enough to be used in multiple area of the factory.
    You are correct in they are testing on the shop floor as that is the only way to see the effects of interference from other processes especially welding which the robots will need to be armored against.

    i've seen this video for more than 1 hour about how the bot will do small complex operations on Tesla factories to build cars, in the near future... but the vehicles will be much easy to build on the next generations, probably won't need the bot to do most of these tasks. Bot won't be that useful to tesla, but probably will be amazing for other companies.

    Thanks, although I have watched the day to day operations of SpaceX I haven't really paid any attention to the Tesla bot thinking that since it has taken Boston Dynamics the last 20 to 30 years to accomplish what they have as one of the front runners in cool robot tech, I didn't think that in a couple of years would make much of a difference in capabilities. I'm not sure why I decided to watch this video to start with, but I'm completely convinced that what Scott said is that these robots will completely evolutionize manufacturing. I just turned 63 and all I want is to see is Elon/SpaceX land on Mars. Even better if a hundred robots land on Mars to set up camp. Even if they crash they can search the crash site and salvage themselves for spare parts. Now I'm thinking these robots could easily clear and prep land for Tesla Bot mega factory since like Scott said the bots won't need bathrooms, breakrooms, parking lots, cafeterias, HR reps, they could probably make cold calls and drive to potential clients take meetings and sell themselves and if the client doesn't pay they can break legs also.

    I think I saw Herbert's mind blown several times in the video. Nice one Herbert and Scott, that was a great video. As the Two Minute Papers channel is fond of saying, "Research is a process, do not look where we are, but where we will be two more papers down the line". Between A.I day 1 and A.I. Day 2 Tesla added more than "2 papers". Between A.I. Day 2 and Investor Day, even more progress. What will the end of the year bring?

      I think Tesla has planned to integrate Optimus already in the Mexico plant, if Optimus is not skilled enough till the end of the year, a human will do the task; that is the advantage of a humanoid robot 😎they are interchangeable with humans.

    Thanks, it is always a pleasure to listen to intelligent people, who understand how amazing it is, what Tesla is doing and how much it makes sense, when looking at the overall picture. One reason behind Optimus not having a super human motion range could be, that Optimus then can always be replaced by a human worker, if necessary. Having the head in a fix position helps a lot with the coordination between vision and calculation of orientation in space.

    Let's talk about how Nueral link can merge with Teslabot. I'm sure 40 actuators can be linked/learned in short order. Even as a prosthetic. Seems reasonable that the connection is inevitable. Think about the possibility for 5min, and the implications are huge. A human with a neural link to the bot will be able to take over the bot when needed, and also train the bot. Like having 2 steering wheels in a driver's Ed car. Haven't heard anyone discussing this. I feel master plan 3 is too much for them to reveal.

  • @Genghaodeshenghuo
    @Genghaodeshenghuo ปีที่แล้ว

    Production of at least 500 by end of this year is feasible, especially if you consider that these machines can manufacture themselves. Taking that approach, growth is exponential, one bot turns into two, two into four, four into eight etc. depending upon time to manufacture, 500 is definitely a minimum number.
