    Finally the first video I've seen someone using the 900 series in a different style other than metal or rock. This is what I've been asking for from Paiste. I didn't like the sound it makes in the metal songs I've heard and reserved judgment because it could be the way it was EQ and mixed.
    Thanks for the video Rob. I like how they are darker than usual Paiste without being dry and have some of the shimmer at the end but there is a tone I hear that I don't like coming from them, I don't know how to explain what I'm hearing but I am not impressed with these cymbals. I geuss I'll have to continue saving for Modern Essentials, Signature and Master cymbals. But I am drawn to other companies that are making more affordable cymbals that are darker and musical but I just love Paiste consistency and have been loyal customer but I don't have $500 to buy the 24" Masters thin cymbal or 22" Modern Essentials ride.

    Beautiful sounding cymbals. Not that I would expect anything less from Paiste..!

    Another Rob here who loves 19" and 17" crashes. I have a 19" PST7 thin crash which sounds just awesome. Just ordered a 19" 900 crash last week and gonna have to get a 17 to go with it. Thx for the great videos bro...your other video on the 900 series helped me make up my mind to get one. God bless!

    Nice playing Rob - good selection in terms of sizes especially the crashes, some of the videos on TH-cam don't seem to compliment the sound of these cymbals but they sounded good in this video

    After a couple more listens I love those Paistes even more and your playing was inspired. Didn't know that you favor shag-bark hickory drumsticks though.

    Honestly this video does not do the 15" Heavy Hihats justice at all.. just bought a pair.. This is the BEST hi-hat I have owned.. and I have owned them all!.. spent last weekend with them.. used them for 2 different studio sessions, and MAN! They are simply incredible!.. in the last session the producer came to me after doing 3 minutes of sound check and said: "MAN! what hats are those??.. they are the best "out of the box" sounding hi-hats I have EVER heard! They sound like.. well. like a hi-hat should!" .. and I agreed!.. he immediately ordered a pair for the him self.. no hes not a drummer.. he just wanted to bring them for all recording session in the future. They are now my nr. 1 hi-hat pair.. I have 8 others, including expensive vintage hats.. these though.. beat em all! HIGHLY recommended.. get em before Paiste realizes what they did, and move the model to the signature series and triples the price!

    • @HR2635
      @HR2635 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      note: these have the wrong name.. "heavy" is actually misleading.. they WILL do hard rock and so on.. but actually the top is only medium in weight.. so it gives them snap, crispyness, low-end and simply a dynamic beautiful sound.. I especially like the smooth creamy stick definition when played with the shoulder of the stick.. love them. Can be used for anything ...

    That's some pretty slick playing! Even with headphones you really can't tell how a cymbal really sounds, they didn't sound bad but you really have to try cymbals out yourself with your own touch or you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

    If I’m being honest Rob. I really like the sound of your original cymbal set up better. I am a Sabian guy, have been my whole career, but the Paiste signature cymbals have always sounded nice to me. The 19” 900 crash has a really nice timber. The ride is okay as well. Not sure about the splash or the 17” crash. This is the first listen, I’ll look forward to the full review on Fri. Great playing as always BTW, keep up the good work.

    Wow! I've never been a Paiste guy. Always thought they were too bright for my taste. However these sound nice and dark, yet cut like crazy, which has been a Paiste trademark. These would fit into so many playing situations. Love the sound of these, especially coupled with your great playing. Thanks for posting this Rob!

    So I'm looking to get new cymbals to replace the pst3s I've had for ages and I can't decide between getting a set of the 900s or pst7s. They both sound very good.

    Hey Rob, I've got a set of 14" soundedge 900's on order to check out... I've been using 2002 black soundedge for 30 years but need to change due to cracking!! Do you find the 900's to sound tinny & cheap as they are half the price of any 2002 soundedge hats? Any feedback would be great as I have to wait another 2 weeks for them to arrive ... thanks, love your videos... very cool & funky 👍

    Nice Rob. I believe that you can make any cymbal sound like soild gold with the style and finesse of your playing. The the close up on the sticks at the end showed how much of a beast those sticks are. My question is, the kit that your using for the review the gig maker or birch customs? Sounded sweet.

      @rossrinkenbaugh4005 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      tdrum21 I totally agree with you. You can sit a talented player like Rob at a cheap set and he'd make em sound awesome and you can also sit a new drummer at a high end kit and they'd make em sound like a beginner drum set.

    Beatdown, what kind of sticks are those? I know you mentioned them in a previous video, but I've forgotten. I'm having trouble finding resilient sticks. These obviously have that quality

    • @RobBeatdownBrown
      @RobBeatdownBrown  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Nicholas Petitjean These are the Vic Firth Carlock Signature sticks. They're an acquired taste because of the design of that tiny tip and thin taper, but I love em.

    • @nicholaspetitjean9065
      @nicholaspetitjean9065 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rob Brown Yeah, I usually prefer thicker sticks. Lately, though, I've been trying to expand my tastes. And Vic Firth does make one hell of a stick. I'll check 'em out. Thanks and keep grooving man. I always look forward to watching your new vids

    • @bonhammanstis3423
      @bonhammanstis3423 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      mike pk666 how is it right side up. Your supposed to hit it on the part that bends down so I was told

    • @mpk6664
      @mpk6664 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bonham Knievel Chinas were made to be played like a ride, with the bell upwards.
      There is no right/wrong way to have it though, it's all preference, I like mine with the outer folds downwards like most metal players.

    • @bonhammanstis3423
      @bonhammanstis3423 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      mike pk666 in my opinion it's better that way. As a metal drummer I tend to break it when it's not like that. And I have wuhan China's so they break really easily
