  • Yamaha continues its reputation for improving on every model in its respective series. Building further on the impressive PSR-E373, Yamaha brings additional sounds and beats, a more efficient control panel workflow and plenty more subtle improvements to the PSR-E383.
Really proud to bring you the first review of this one!

Did anybody notice that there is a new drum kit when he played one of the styles before he eneded the video. To me sounds like that of the PSR SX600 or the DGX670. So now we may just have a new drum kit on top of the power kit that we had for a while in addition to the old XGLite drum kits. That's what I Noticed . Of course, it is possible that the samples are smaller or maybe not. It is kind of hard to tell due to the compression on the camera's audio or something. Thanks Gearfacts. Keep the videos comming. I am thankfull that you are still providing these new and old gear. Shows how much tech in these machines have been progressing, even though we can't always ask for to much, lol.Waiting for the series of keyboards that I am intrested in, the E4 series. Take care and god bless.

I think Yamaha has to focus on replacing voices from the next PSRE rather than adding voices. They are so many 90s trash, annoying and extremely toyish 5$ keyboard voices and drumkits here. They should start using sampled voices like in the Tyros and delete trash voices.

What I am interested in is the midi capabilities of this keyboard. And I am anticipating the PSRE483. I currently have the PSRE463 and I have looked at the manual for the PSRE473 and its midi capabilities. And I can tell you that the PSRE473 does except control change CC numbers 82, and 83. Which are General Purpose Buttons 3 and 4 respectively. And those are toggle on/off controls. The PSRE463 does not support CC82 and CC83. Also, I know that the PSRE463 and PSRE473 have the Groove Creator, that comes with 35 grooves. No more and no less. You cannot actually create your own custom grooves from the ground up. So if the PSRE483 comes out, I will be interested to see if they still include the Groove Creator and if so, that you can actually create your own custom grooves from the ground up.

    • @gearfacts

The answer is actually pretty simple - the sounds are almost exactly the same between those two models. There are a few extras in the 383 but nothing dramatically exciting. Consider also that the 425 has the benefit of the dynamic control knobs, which make a huge difference, to the sonic possibilities.

Ok. Tell me this. What have they improved here? The same xg sound engine has been used since 1994, you might say they are adding sounds but these high quality sounds already existed in psr keyboards from the 90s. They have been milking everyone's money since 2005 ish and everyone is still impressed with them 20 years later? The rhythms were also from early Yamaha psr keyboards. So in my opinion, there's nothing to be excited about. But that's just my opinion.

The Yamaha PSR-E series keyboards are entry level keyboards, the PSR-E3 and E4 series keyboards have always been a respectable
keyboard for anybody starting out and people who buy these keyboards know exactly what they are buying. The Yamaha E473 is
actually better and more powerful as it has more panel instruments, it even has some of the same sounds from the SX600 and SX700
but at a more affordable price. Also general midi and XG support is still a useful feature for people who wish to play along to midi
backing tracks which is the main reason Yamaha keyboards still support XG. To be honest I personally find the Genos 2 underwhelming
because that's well out of my price range and arranger keybaords aren't really my thing.

@LittleRichard1988 Even 10 year old PSR S650 sounds much better than e473. It's unbelievable that Yamaha improved the drums this way. It's tremendously and immensely better than 473. But it sad to see they are still clinging to their 90s terrible voices. I've heard a new electric guitar in the e383. PSRE desperately needs a better electric guitar voices.

Yamaha is extremely lazy and slow to try new things. It's about time they created an entry-level keyboard with the sounds of the original MOTIF. KORG did that with the Taktile MIDI controller that features the complete soundbank of the original Triton. Roland also packed impressive sounds into the Go Keys, too bad the build quality is horrible.

Go:Keys - wonderful idea killed by miniscule speakers and inflexible options/controls :(

Absolutely. I couldn't have said it any better. Utterly trash annoying voices, very limited features, that is something they really need to change this time.

I thought the CT-S1000 was pretty innovative but it got a mild reception from the market, generally.
