Thanks for the instructions, I had the same issue on my 1991 325i vert., replaced switch first and didn't help, tested wiring the way you described and lights came up, replaced wiring and now I have reverse lights again!

How did you rebuild the wiring? I'm having trouble removing the contacts from the connectors.
