Float Fishing For Carp

  • Carp angling has developed its own cult status and techniques where putting in long hours, often without result, are required for a sniff of big fish success. Here Graeme Pullen demonstrates a different approach which is capable of producing end to end action, along with some very good fish.

Got these thinking they were the slightly larger Panfish floats th-cam.com/users/postUgkx_rJB7cli5f1ofPVGgn80S7Yj4vqwq0gU they work just fine. The smaller size lets me carry more in my tackle box, and the 3 color choices are nice for different lighting conditions, backgrounds, etc. They aren't the most durable things in the world. But, as cheap as they are, it's not heartbreaking to lose one or have to replace a worn one. The price on these fluctuates wildly, from about $9 to almost $16. So, time your buy accordingly.

I've only been fishing for two years and I just love float fishing. Really often on my local commercial me and my son are up to 8 and 10 fish respectively after a couple of hours and the people fishing with the beeper things are still waiting. Float fishing is more active and, for me, more fun. Thanks Graeme for another great video!

Great video - gave up fishing in 1999, after spending about £4,000 on Carp gear. Started again this year (aged 60), back to light, simple, basic tackle and baits. Enjoying fishing more than ever.

I've spent less than £200 on my whole setup which covers Pike fishing too in the winter, went out for 2 hours on Saturday and landed 2 nice carp nearing 20lbs and a medium tench.
I always chuckle to myself when i see these pro carp anglers camping out all day and night and not getting a bite.

    Nice video!
My cousin fishes in this style and we had a great day last week. 3x 12Ibs carp, 2x 8Ibs carp and bunch of others including a 8Ib chubb. All on a £35 rod & reel combo set! There were about 5 other guys there that caught nothing all day casting out with ££££s of gear! Got me addicted, I'm off this weekend for a bit of float margin fishing, lovely!

How can it be inadequate if we caught a load of fish on it, pretty much as fast as we could cast out ? In fishing there is no "correct" method. The only correct method is the one that catches the fish on the day. I would use a straight loaded stem float for roach, but what happens when a carp/tench/bream takes it under ? Do they not count as they were on an "incorrect" float ? Our aim was for youngsters to have a heavy enough float not to tangle .I use Avon floats for everything.

I am still fishing like I did when I first start out, just normal a simple 10 foot float rod with a simple float set up or simple method feeder set up and a 12 foot feeder rod and simple baits such as sweetcorn, maggots, bread and worms. I enjoy the simple fact about watching the rod tip or float just going round or under and not even knowing the size or what species of fish is on the end of the hook

hehehe, Sir , i love your videos , got from you lots of fantastic tips wich got me lots of fish:P , in special carp and tench . ive learned from you to mix up things like cat food , tuna in water , bread ,corn and hot dog segments.Had such nice fishing since i've seen your vids.one thing i'd like to say more , at some moments , when i've made a mix of this i also could see how crazy they will go for it . I could see the water like it had a war under the surface . Really amazing and the thing that made the difference it was the tuna in water mixed with bread and cat food ( some salmon thing that smells like fish ) At the water i use to go this combination drives them crazy , thank you. Also in this way i've got my bigest roach ever close to 22 cm . :D

Well done, nice to know others are using the same method .Quite satisfying when you see others asleep on their bedchairs catching nothing ! Here's a tip. Find a bush but bait both sides of it,then when you have netted a fish you can go round the other side and catch while the first swim calms down ! Good, and keep watching the films, more planned.Graeme

Glad you enjoy the tips. Man...if carp fishing ever takes off like it has in the UK there will one huge amount of business to made with all the tackle and bite alarms etc. Enjoy that natural fishing before it all gets changed to the boring way of sitting by bite alarms etc,I reckon its coming and someone will develop big money prizes as well. Like the Bass Tournaments.

@@joshplays3494 If it’s so boring why do so many people do it? I have better things to do than pasty bashing in shit hole day tickets to catch tiny fish that you can only feel sorry for because most of them are missing half their mouths. Specimen hunting is far from boring, it’s totally encapsulating. Easy fishing like this is unsatisfying and tedious after 2 fish. I’ll stick to 10 a year on a beautiful syndicate. You stick to catching 35 washed out carp a day from a muddy puddle.

nicely explained. I used to catch carp outside Montreal city, Canada and they are big dandy over 20lbs and the most successful is McDonald Fires and they are wild carp in the river rapids we caught. no flot, just through with the weight and the bait lays on the bottom. Now I will try with different way, may be with float in British Columbia(mostly smaller carps, but some lakes has dandy one

first time i have seen this and i love it, my way of fishing! back to basics and away from the carp tackle you need to catch carp or you wont catch them! lol ive been usin hot dog sausage for yrs since about 1996 and looks like my secret is out :) the reason i use it is because it is kept in brine (salt water) and we all know fish love salt plus it has meat flavor and if i get hungry well i do take a couple of tins!, if only tackle shops advised on basic gear and not their profit! never happen.

In US this is what I use. I have a medium action rod cost about $25. 10lb test line, 1oz egg slip wt, swivel, size 6 hook. Where I live you can only have 2 rods. One out about 30 yards. One out about 20 yards. I hook up on carp all day in the states. They are an absolute blast to catch! Mirror Carp are not as feisty as common carp and you can usually tell which one you have. The more you spend I do agree the more you can catch. But My gear is bought which is about $100 in total. $1 in corn a full day of fun 😁

Great video. I am from the US and I Carp fish in the Ohio River, I just use a trusty zebco 33 or zebco 808. Never use anything fancy. And for bait I buy a box of Wheaties for 3 USD and make wheatie balls. Next time you go out, try a box of wheaties... just grab a handful and submerge for about 15 seconds in water...then mash up..let sit for about 2 to 3 minutes then tear off a little bit to put on hook. I am going to try your bait concoction next time out.

When you have a rod set up with umpteen Lb breaking strain, umpteen Lb test curve and a reel that could tow a landrover, It somewhat takes the sport out of it.
I've sat on Lakes many a time and watched a guy on the other side cast a bloody great lump of lead right across to the opposite bank ! What's the point, just fish close in on the other side and keep quiet.
