    $115,000 SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA OPEN
Town Square Lanes, Riverside, Calif., Jul 5-10, 1985
    Dennis Menaces So. California Field
Dennis Jacques figured if he could get past Wayne Webb in the semifinal match of the $115,000 SouthernCalifornia Open he would win his second PBA title in four weeks. He was right.
After edging Webb, 253-248, in an exciting semifinal, Jacques went on to rout top-seeded Amleto Monacelli, 212-146, to claim his third PBA title and $16,000.
Jacques opened the championship game with four strikes, while Monacelli could not find the way to the 1-3 pocket. Monacelli suffered through open frames in the first, fourth and sixth, and failed to strike until the seventh frame. By then, Jacques had the match well at hand.
Webb had a relatively easy time with his first two opponents, routing Bill Straub, 257-148, and eliminating Ted Hannahs, 224-191.
    CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND
    Pos. Name, City/State Total Amount

    4 Ted Hannahs, Zanesville, Ohio 191 (1 game) 5,000
    5 Bill Straub, Lincoln, Neb. 148 (1 game) 4,000
PLAYOFF RESULTS - Webb defeated Straub, 257-148; Webb defeated Hannahs, 224-191; Jacques defeated Webb, 253-248; and in the championship game, Jacques defeated Monacelli, 212-146.

Amleto opens his shoulder, it’s hard to estimate how long he can bowl like that.
Here it is 2020 and Amleto is still bowling in a few regular events and multiple PBA50 events.

To be fair Durbin did say it was hard to know how long it would last!! I don't think he would have guessed 35+ years!! 😂

52:26 … If they worked on the racks before the telecast, then why is 45 occasionally setting the 4 off-spot, and why is 44 (the backup lane) missing the 5?

Mike Durbin was always unwatchable as bowler or commentator because of his mouth breathing.

As for the spraygun and mop method of oiling the lanes, WHY is the guy walking on the alley bed he just oiled ??????? (35:50) That would track oil all over the approach like little kids habitually crossing the foul line would.

Dennis Jacques earned that win especially having to bowl better than a 248 to beat the great Wayne Webb. What a great match that was. Thanks for the video.

Amleto was not the first foreign born bowler to win a PBA title, Guppy Troop was.

    • @veggieoilerfan2940
      @veggieoilerfan2940 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Douglas Harris Mats Karlsson is actually credited as the first foreigner to win a PBA title. I would guess that since Guppy Troup had American citizenship during his time on the PBA Tour he is not being recognized as the first foreign winner.
