    My friend group decided to give dnd a try during the quarantine days here and this was the campaign we started with. Now I am the DM for dragon heist but am loving watching your dm guide series. I would love to run this campaign as a DM in the future.

    This was great. I do think you could benefit from some editing (coughing, drinking, loud children), but the content was super helpful, concise (mostly), and complete. I've run LMOP numerous times and struggled with certain parts. Your video of this dungeon really does help tie in my campaign. Good work!!!

      Thanks. Glad you liked it. There is a whole series. This is a live stream video, editing applies to a different format. I can't control my coughing, my need to drink water or that I live with other people including a child.

    Note that, as said correctly (at 1:51:35), a critical doubles the damage dice (but not the bonus). Thus if you use average damage for monster hits, simply doubling the damage on a critical (as suggested 1:51:50) at will result in more damage than it should, since the average includes the bonus and you would be doubling the bonus as well. In the case of a Redbrand Ruffian, damage is 1d6+2 for an average of 5. Doubling 5 on a crit would be 10, but the average damage on a crit should be 9 (2d6+2).

    The north door is not a cupboard. It is a door into the trapped hallway. It looks strange because it is trying to show that it goes underneath that landing and into the main hallway with the trap.

    • @HowtoRPG
      @HowtoRPG  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have heard this theory before, but there is no documentation to indicate this.

    • @mykecallahan4141
      @mykecallahan4141 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HowtoRPG It’s not a theory, though. If you look at the dotted lines, the cross-section, and realize that the landing and the hallway are at different altitudes, you can clearly see what they were going for when drawing the map. Also the fact that, numerically, that is the next logical section to go in, if you didn’t find the secret door.

    • @HowtoRPG
      @HowtoRPG  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mykecallahan4141 We will disagree. It's one of two theories. It's not mentioned at all in the adventure and your speculation would have been an important point to highlight in the text and it's not. That doesn't stop you running it that way.

    • @mykecallahan4141
      @mykecallahan4141 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HowtoRPG I’m not trying to change your mind; it’s okay that we disagree. But I’m not basing my speculation on module text or theories at all. I’m basing it on simple cartography.
      The dotted lines and cross-section used, as well as the fact that the only two encounter rooms at a different depth are rooms 9-11, show that the sub-staircase door goes underneath the landing and into a short hallway, leading to area 3. The dotted lines, in cartography, denote something that is hidden from view because it is being obscured from above.
      So, whether anyone wants to agree or disagree, this is what is being represented on the map that comes with this adventure.
      No disrespect intended in my response. Want to make sure you are aware of that.

    • @StrahdZ
      @StrahdZ ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's not a theory. It's literally in the flavor text of the campaign. Quote: "Another door stands beneath the stairs to
      the north."

    Hi u mentioned in a newer video that u didn't think people would look at your old videos for phandelver and below I am doing just that.

    • @HowtoRPG
      @HowtoRPG  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you. I have noticed that many channels are making videos on the new title for the adventure, which I am not doing. Also the TH-cam search engine is so odd, that my older Lost Mine of Phandelver videos don't appear if people search specifically for that title. That is why I assumed, people would not be interested in them. They would not find them.

    Mysterious door is a cupboard? I don’t think so. I see 2 doors, 1 door is the entrance from the outside (the center door to the east) and the other door under the stairs leading north is to the trapped hallway. Where is a cupboard?

    • @HowtoRPG
      @HowtoRPG  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The door to the north does not lead to the trapped hallway. No text to indicate or dotted lines. I did check with Chris Perkins comments on this.

    • @ImOnUToob
      @ImOnUToob 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@HowtoRPG I see clear dotted lines and having that door not lead to the hall makes zero sense. If that’s not the door to the trapped hallway, then how the heck else do you get there? It’s perfectly in line (door to hallway), there’s dotted lines indicating you can go under the stairs, and it’s referenced in the text. The artist doesn’t show a physical connection because that would make it look like it comes off the stairway landing, which it doesn’t. Why in the world would they put a door there and reference a pointless cupboard? (One you’ve made up, that has absolutely no reference or meaning). I don’t need official documentation, I just need common sense. I really hate to argue with you sir, I think you’re doing a great thing here, but you’re just flat out blatantly and obviously wrong here

    • @ImOnUToob
      @ImOnUToob 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I just continued the video as I didn’t have time earlier and now see your approach is to play the trapped hallway as a dead end. There is absolutely no way that’s what was intended. The cloaks are there in area 2 for the skeletons in area 3 and it’s even numbered that way. Then the trick is to find your way through one of the 2 secret doors into the western portion.
      Read the description at the start of the hideout: it even says there was a cellar and crypt for the original family. The Redbrands have since expanded.
      I guess the good thing about D&D is that it’s 100% completely open to interpretation, change, and modularity. As for this one though, I’m just baffled that you don’t see it.

    • @ImOnUToob
      @ImOnUToob 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I just found the answer in Chapter 2 of Acquisitions Incorporated. I just saw it and remembered this discussion. It says “The door leading to area 3”. So case closed.
