great video! my a.c. is not working after charging it twice and I have the feeling that it might me the condenser, when I replaced the radiator I did noticed that the condenser was kinda beat up, oh and since I'm replacing the condenser I'm going to see if I can install a fmi since I will be working in the same area😊I was kinda waiting for a opportunity to do so, thanks for the vid again👍 Idk why you got some 👎 but your vid will sure help me later.

Thanks for this video, Just got a call from mechanic who's fixing my A/c who told me the condenser needs to be replaced because it has a hole, now I know what he is talking about. I hope this is the last trip for any Auto repairs this year. Love my 2007 Sabb 9-3 but whoever owned her before me left a lot to be restored and repaired. Other than that A great car and worth it.

Hi just want to say thank you for the great information and videos. This one helped me out a lot. I did get stuck with the top bolt for the condenser creating it's own weld with corrosion, took 3 hours to get off. Had to drill the middle of the bolt, which was the original on a 2006. This eased the pressure and bolt came out. If angling the condenser does not help to get the top bolt. I found dropping front left bumper and removing the light helped a lot. There is a one bolt underneath. The electrical connector is small screwdriver in the right hand side ease the two clips on the left. Its then ease sideways on like a double bump runner. Thanks again this helped me on my saab vector in the uk.

Glad I found this ! Changed rad and intercooler - plastic and rubber strip that’s sits on top fell to bits ! Now know where it sits 🙏 hope you got your problem resolved ? Get my parts from Parts for Saab’s great products and service 👍

Its a good idea to pull a vacuum on the system. Places like Autozone will let you use theirs. You put a deposit down and they refund the deposit when you bring the pump back. Evacuating the system helps with refrigerant fill. Also, having air in your system is not good. The air is essentially an incompressible fluid and will result in higher head pressures which will hurt the performance of the system.

I agree that a vacuum needs to be pulled. Also, PAG oil needs to be added to replace what was in the old condenser. Air is Not incompressible. Liquids yes, gases no. Also, entrapped air holds moisture which you definitely don't want in there. With a system that has been leaking for a while, the drier should be replaced too.

Suggest taking off the front bumper first - it does not take very long and gives you much better access.

Great video. I believe it's even easier if you remove the front bumper cover

Yes, I think you are right. I usually try to take off as little as possible, but yeah the bumper would make it a bit easier.

any videos how to change AC compressor on that car?

Suggestion: pull more but in end it's less headaches: remove front bumper and both headlights to get maximum working room on condenser and compressor. Remove crossbeam (like in vid) so you can tilt radiator forward, also remove radiator fan shroud. You'll thank me later.

    • @DirtRoadAutoRepair

Definitely would make it easier! Thanks for the Suggestion!

I'm trying to replace one fan in the fan assembly without taking the whole front apart. I got the cage loose, I got the fan free, but with my best prying, something's keeping that fan cage from prying just one more inch. Fan can't come out in current state without bashing radiator or opening A/C freon hoses.
    I'm screwed, aren't I.......

Quick question.....is the intercooler the radiator looking unit all the way in the back? So the 05 saab 9-3 has like 3 units together that look like radiators....am I correct when I say the first one all the way upfront is the radiator, the condenser is in the middle and the intercooler is in the back?

starting from the bumper it goes, condenser, intercooler, then radiator.

Need to do this on my Saab 9-3 sc -06. When filling up the ac after the condenser replacment, how much gas is needed? I think the whole system has like 680g, do you need to refill all?

    • @DirtRoadAutoRepair
      @DirtRoadAutoRepair  3 ปีที่แล้ว

I'm not sure what the spec is. I just filled it until my refill tool said it was in the green zone. it worked fine for me.

Do you know if 03-11 Saab condenser can be flush or need to replace? Need compressor swap, but also got a pick pull condenser donor car had zero AC issues

Whit Siever idk if there is a flush that can be done on the condenser. If you have one from a working unit it would definitely be a go imo. Also you’ll want to replace the o-rings. It’s cheap and easy to do now.

Hi! So I've been waiting to have an excuse to do what you just did, I've been with out the AC for 2 summers and I thought that I could handle this year too......oooh boy I was wrong, I got stock on traffic on a 98 degree weather and the real feel according to the was 107, and them it started to rain and all of my car's Windows got foggy, I literally had to turn the heat on for the Windows for me able to see again so I was or it felt like a furnace, so its time to change the condenser and put a front mount intercooler, now question for ya, is your car auto or 5sp? Cause I'm trying to buy the condenser but apparently it's different for auto and stick? I mean what does the trans have to do with the condenser?

Hi there. Great video. I need to do this to my 08 SAAB 93. What aftermarket brand would you suggest I get? Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

I have bought parts on eeuroparts.com before and have been every pleased with the quality and service. I would personally highly recommend any brand that they sell.

I thought the 'how to change' part of title meant I would see how to change it, not just 'this is where you do this and that' , and then skipping to show that stage of job completed. I would have liked to see how you got down inside to undo nuts and bolts.

Fionn Macumhail i don’t post hour long “watch me do the job videos” as my Internet is too slow. Takes me all night to upload a 5 min video. Also most of the people watching don’t have time for that.
It’s free country. Go watch the hour long videos if you like. Sorry you didn’t like mine but that’s your right.
