JoyNews’ investigations reveal how a trafficker charges GHc5,000 cedis to recruit at least seven children from Northern part of the country to work on cocoa farms
It’s a story of how children trafficked for Ghc1000 cedis to work on cocoa farms. But, some traffickers take as much as five thousand cedis to do this job of recruiting children from the Northern parts of the country. It’s an illegal trade but using children on cocoa farms have becomes the preferred labour for many farmers because their services are cheap. These are excerpts of JoyNews’ latest investigations titled ‘Children in Cocoa Labour’. Investigative journalist Kwetey Nartey reports that parents of these children are complicit in this illegal trade.

Since when helping your parents at a farm became child labour?

But they are not their parents. As a child, I used to go to the farm with my grandmother who I was living with in the village on the weekends but going to school from monday to friday, that is not the case here. The children here are mostly transported from the N ok rtyern regions to the cocoa areas in the south fir a fee, this is slavery and should be banned forthwith.

This is really sad these fools are exploiting these children in collusion with the children parents. These children should be emancipated from this modern slavery.

Do the West deprive their children from education?
      What's wrong is wrong.

@@Thor-Rose yes I agree with you that children shouldn’t be deprived of their childhood and education, but that doesn’t mean children cannot help their parents in their professions be it farming carpentry, driving, etc. It can be done on weekends and during school vacations. We all did that and it didn’t stop us from going to school. In the west I see children helping their parents in their businesses.

@@idrissagouba962 This documentary is about children being trafficked and deprived of their education. Not against children helping their parents and guardians.
