This happened while I was DMing The rogue went solo to scout the castle and evidently stumbled upon the boss room... He couldn't run, he couldn't fight, so he jumped out of the window. Rolled a 1, landed on a werewolf and proceed to roll nat20s, slaying everyone and everything. They killed the boss once they regrouped

my rogue died bc I thought parcouring behind an ogre and slicing him up would be a smart turn, since he was occupied with our tank. Well, as it turns out dealing a bunch of damage to an angry ogre makes him even more angry, he just turned around and one-hit me with his hook. moral of story, rogues probably shouldn't engage flamboyantly unless what they're engaging with is meek enough to either die from their attack or to not backlash for 50 points of critical damage .
this sort of thing is exactly why i take the mobility feat with rouge. you can get in attack and get away unmolested, wether or not the attack hits. 10ft of extra movement and ignoring difficult terrain when dashing is nice too.

Classic porcelain hero mistake, the goblins revert your gaze with silly gadgets and light so that you can't see them, then they ambush you. Though, the rouge wouldn't have had the issue of hitting his sword against the roof like most other porcelain

Rogues can't dodge as a bonus action with the "cunning action" ability. the description says: "Starting at 2nd level, your quick thinking and agility allow you to move and act quickly. You can take a bonus action on each of your turns in combat. This action can be used only to take the Dash, Disengage, or Hide action."
Okay, I’ve been wanting to share this with someone from the moment it happened, my team was pretty late game, our Ranger had a magical artifact that can summon a griffin to do his bidding, but our team mainly used it as a taxi service, it quickly got us from one place to another and it rested while we adventured, So, we just made it to an island, my character, a really bad rouge, just hopped off the griffin, (I say she’s really bad because she always rolled 5 or lower on her stealth check, but it fit with her character) She and the fighter was met with two skeletons one with a cross-bow the other with a giant battle axe, the ranger didn’t withdraw the Griffin so it was kinda sitting there on the beach, Our gnome cleric was healing the ranger of a bullet(arrow?) from the cross-bow that got lodged in his shoulder. Now it was my turn, “I leap up as swing my daggers at the skeleton charging at Edward” (our fighter) I miss and the skeleton hits me with his cross-bow MID-AIR I fly Backwards and land at the ground in front of the griffin. The skeleton with the battle-axe leaps up and aims for the griffin it misses and hits me! It rolls a nat 20 and cuts me in half, my character is now at -17 health and both of my half’s just flop to either side.
A Rogue should do anything but rush in blindly. check for traps, enemies, or whatnot. If there are enemies then coordinate with the party, just because you're a rogue doesn't mean you'd be a loner! Let them attack the enemy directly and go around for a sneak attack on the enemy spellcasters or other equally dangerous threats. A rogues key function is their stealth and how they can use that to their advantage in so many scenarios not only for themselves but to help the whole party!
1:12 those suck. My entire party was very low in an adventures campaign, and we had to fight an orc mage, and the brain. One of us died, but was devoured. ( we figured out that it has to do that on another turn, so we were fine and he didn’t die) but after our barbarian was out it was me and the bard left. Our bard I took out the mage with my 4th and final magic missile. But then the brain ko-Ed our bard. But then, I was able to pick that disgusting rain up with mage hand and BURN IT. Moral of the story, don’t try to fight brains with legs.
We actually had a similar situation in a 5e game I played with some of my friends, but the DM was dumb enough to give us a necklace that beheaded anyone who put it on earlier in the campaign. Nobody else was interested in it, so I kept it. Later, we had to fight our way through a bunch of goblin camps that were built on stone pillars in the middle of a giant cavern, and the leader was a huge hobgoblin on a throne. I ended up sneaking around behind him, with the help of my ENTIRE party (who knew exactly what I was up to) and slipped the necklace on said hobgoblin. It then tightened around his throat until it popped his head off, and the DM refused to, well, DM for the next three months.
You tell the stories well my friend. I cant wait for some of the new characters my group to come to life. My character is going to be a mystic gnome that will be accompanied by the juggernaut warforged and the firebolg druid. Have to say I'm excited to try out mounted combat Haha love the outro also man good job
Funny how a bunch of "low level" characters like ours got eliminated goblin slayer style and I was the only person to back out of the cave cause I got a bad feeling then I saw my party get eliminated so I decide to go back to the pub for a drink after I pick off the Goblins with my bow from a tree

Five minutes into a new campaign, they randomly attacked a traveling merchant dwarf who promptly kicked their asses with a boomerang.
I had a similar thing happening to me Someone asked me to kill some goblins but I knew goblin the language, so I tried to convince the npc to resolve with politics. Didn't work.
It turns out Rogues cannot dodge as a bonus action (but they can still dash, disengage, or hide). I’ve made the same mistake and it’s a game changer when it comes to rogue bonus actions. Great vid!
Last friday me and my party went into a house with 6 vamp spawn. We almost lost 2 people because the rest of the party missed 4 of the spawn that were hiding in a kitchen and they jumped on the healer. Luckely the druid thought w8 I can cast entangle. This alone saved the rest of the party from being out numbered.

This reminds me of a 3.5e game I was in. There was my character and his sister, two half orcs, I was a Barb the other was a fighter. There was also a cleric, a rogue, and a ranger. Anywho, we were on a similar goblin extermination quest. And we were lead to this old farmhouse. I wasn't there for this session, but inside they encountered some goblins in the house itself, which they dealt with easily, even at first level. But then they found a hobgoblin and it was a tough fight. It took longer to take down than it took for the rest of the goblins. They ended the session by entering a tunnel they had found. Next session we explored the tunnel. My character was in the lead because he was the strongest one by a pretty wide margin, he somehow had a strength of 19 before the rage bonus. So he goes in finds some goblins, kills some goblins. Further down the tunnel is a wide pit. He jumps to try to get over it, fails takes some damage. But he success on his Dex save, and barely catches himself. This opens him up to attacks from the goblins who cut into him and get him to low health. So I use rage, he pulls himself out and kills the two goblins at the top, one hit each. Further down the hallway are two hobgoblins and a three normal goblins. So he rushes forward attacks the hobgoblins, one shots both of them. Kills the other two goblins the same way. But the last one is behind a pillar shooting at him. He rushes forward and swings his axe at the goblin. So, I roll, crit, roll for damage. Deal a total of 46 damage. So the axe chops through both the goblin and the stone pillar. Unfortunately that was the main pillar holding up the house. Which sinks into the earth a few feet. And like I said towards the beginning, this was at level one. The only other encounter that came close to that level was a time when I took a werewolf's head off with the hammer side of an Urgrosh.
As a budding DM, I know how easy it is to throw goblins at the party. In both one-shots I've run thus far, the party encountered goblins. At least in the second one, I got to mix up the game by using wolves, and then a specter.
Just had my first proper D&D session as a rogue and I seem to have been blessed with competent smart party, because we thwarted our DM's plans twice just by using common sense.
Never EVER underestimate hobs, in the last game i played i played a warlock who took an arrow in the back from a surprise attack from a hob (at only level 3 admittedly) and was killed instantly by a crit with the DM telling me it shot me right through the heart.
I love D&D for this reason, instead of firing his bow from a range in the other hallway, he ran into the room then decided. "ah shit better shoot my bow at him"
This is why I put everything in stealth when I play rogue (or vampire halfling last time, 4e) with item stacking, feats and a few "invisibility spells" (our illusionist got us a few invisibility scrolls in case of emergency, I had a spell, can't remember which, but was an aoe blast 3 that made me invisible, that and the gas spell which isn't really invisibility but gave me bonus at stealth checks), so after this massive parenthesis, in short, I had about 34 bonus stealth, couple that with my darkvision and my character felt like playing Darkness (that video game). The only shameful thing is I didn't abuse of this outside of fights and infiltrations. Oh and I had a bonus of about 14 in theivery so sometimes I just disappeared and stole the boss weapon's from his own hand, to stick it in his back. Everyone should try to abuse of stealth at least once it's hilarious. It can reach Skyrim levels of stupid sometimes. Almost everything works as long as you got light cover.
I once was a DM for a moderatly experienced party, they got surrounded by 10 wolves. Mage casted fireball, killed 5 out of ten. 4 other ran away. But one remained and somehow killed the whole party.

Just yesterday I was playing a different system where a pc that can turn invisible went ahead to scout, the thing is creatures with very low intelligence could see her, and the goddamn boss had 1 intelligence under the requirement, she just got boped when finally hit.

PSA Rogues don’t get bonus action dodge. (monks do if they spend a ki point). They can use their bonus action to disengage, hide and dash.

Never EVER underestimate hobs, in the last game i played i played a warlock who took an arrow in the back from a surprise attack from a hob (at only level 3 admittedly) and was killed instantly by a crit with the DM telling me it shot me right through the heart.

I love D&D for this reason, instead of firing his bow from a range in the other hallway, he ran into the room then decided. "ah shit better shoot my bow at him"
This is why I put everything in stealth when I play rogue (or vampire halfling last time, 4e) with item stacking, feats and a few "invisibility spells" (our illusionist got us a few invisibility scrolls in case of emergency, I had a spell, can't remember which, but was an aoe blast 3 that made me invisible, that and the gas spell which isn't really invisibility but gave me bonus at stealth checks), so after this massive parenthesis, in short, I had about 34 bonus stealth, couple that with my darkvision and my character felt like playing Darkness (that video game).
The only shameful thing is I didn't abuse of this outside of fights and infiltrations. Oh and I had a bonus of about 14 in theivery so sometimes I just disappeared and stole the boss weapon's from his own hand, to stick it in his back.
Everyone should try to abuse of stealth at least once it's hilarious. It can reach Skyrim levels of stupid sometimes. Almost everything works as long as you got light cover.

I once was a DM for a moderatly experienced party, they got surrounded by 10 wolves. Mage casted fireball, killed 5 out of ten. 4 other ran away. But one remained and somehow killed the whole party.

I did something similar when I was a rogue. And got hit by opportunity attacks of like 4 goblins. Good times.

Just yesterday I was playing a different system where a pc that can turn invisible went ahead to scout, the thing is creatures with very low intelligence could see her, and the goddamn boss had 1 intelligence under the requirement, she just got boped when finally hit.
