You cut the ignition off clean at the finish line so you can "read" the spark plugs to determine proper jetting for the carb. The car was most likely towed back to the pit area.
...not only what SHJ, VC and B-351 said, but there's probably only a quart of oil left in the pan and you want to save the strain of deceleration on the stock connecting rods/trans/drivetrain. Many SS/Pro cars are set up to run like this...
To add to my previous comment, no doubt it's a wicked fast car and still a handfull, but without the clutch, it isn't truly a stickshift. If anyone wants to argue this point, do some research on Ronnie Sox and see what he thought about those clutchless "stick" cars. They should have a class in the UMTR for clutch only cars, if they don't already.
Man if that don't give you goosebumps you aren't a car guy
I've seen Tony's car run many time and I got to say his car is OUTSTANGING SUPER STOCK AND SYOCK ELIMINATOR CARS ARE THE BEST CARS IN DRAG RACING!!!!!
The guy can drive and the car runs real good
That's badass
HOT!
That was cool! If you look closely, you can just see him use the clutch to shift the gears.
I had the volume up so I could listen to the cam, and when he brought up the revs for launch, I soiled myself !!
That looked FUN!! love the speed of the shifts!
wooo baby gotta love the RPM
That was a great video!
soo awesome
@JOD1948 Yeah, he is probably using the clutch on the return road, but not down track...lol
tack view would be nicer

why shut off the motor??
Thats why you never see pro stock and top fuel drag racing have a liberty shifters (semi-automatic) not a third peddle
If somebody's running a clutchless 4 speed, why not just run an airshifted powerglide with a transbrake and be done with it?
Started it back up on return road. saving VP , to high these days
NICE!!!!!!!!
It sounds like a 377 Sbc I built back in the day
10.5 seconds?
@bibeesuperolds because a purrglide takes all the fun outta it:)
