Which part of the process do you enjoy most, or think you will?
The process I enjoy most is actually prepping the clay and then forming the shapes I need. It feels good in my hands.
I like coloring them 😊
@@DianasCraftyCastle YESS I love the bare clay and the feel of it too 😊❤️ thanks
@@wasabiy817 super, do you mainly use acrylic paints or something else? ❤️🌼
@@RedRockingBird I am just starting, trying to get them in shape 😁 I have some acrylic paint on hand and would like to give it a try. I tried home decor thought maybe they can be a paint and sealer, but haven't got it quite right yet
Great outcome, fantastic dish
Thank you so much 👍 ❤️
I have my clay, implements, paint. Just got to bite the bullet and try a project. I like this one.
Yes, definitely, just go for it, enjoy. Thank you

Hi Margaret, that’s a wonderful idea, enjoy 😊 and thank you ❤️
Absolutely stunning! So talented and clever 💛
Thank you 😊🌹🌻🌷💙🌺☀️🌼
As always you make me want to try it! To answer your question, my favorite part of the process is the rolling!😊 I’m afraid to paint on my pieces, I often decoupage them.
Yay, and hope you do try it. Decoupage is a wonderful way to add to the clay, always whatever we are comfortable with and what works for us. Rolling is fun YES. Thank you and enjoy ❤
So fun! Beautiful results, thank you 😍👏🏻
Thank you and yes definitely fun 😊🌼
I learn so much from you. Thank you 😊

I use a nail buffer sponge to smoothen the edges, it works very well! Your vid is so cool, thank you!
Great job, nice to have something chunky like a buffer sponge to hold onto too, thanks 😊🌼

Hello again, Sarah! I love this dish. I’m going to create one for one of my TH-cam videos. ☺️
Hi, each will be completely unique, enjoy ❤
Really digging (through) your videos, you give super useful tips! :) Love this dish, the colors are amazing and unusual!
I've got a question about another video that is from 2 years ago where you showed how you make pins. Asking here since i don't know if you read comments on videos as old like that.
When making clay pins, what do you think of pressing the pin needles directly into the clay and fixating them with slip? Wouldn't that be stronger than using glue?
Awesome! Thank you, good to hear you’re enjoying my videos, plenty to see over here 😁
You can imbed the pin into the clay, as long as you then coat in something strong like resin, to ensure the clay does not snap. I like to glue the pin on with a super strong super glue or resin, they stay on that way. Happy crafting ❤️😊
Sooo pretty!!😍 Love the color schemes and the details! ❤️
Thank you 🌸🌼🌺
That's so pretty and I just love it
Thank you, lots of fun, I’m thinking of something turquoisy next 😊🌼🌺
I use to do pottery, but because of a neuromuscular autoimmune disease I can no longer throw pots and I miss it so much. My main deco type was sgraffito. Can you do sgraffito on air dry clay? Have you ever tried it?
Can you get Canadian links for your products. I know the US is probably your biggest viewer, but if you can get affiliate links for Canada, it would help you, and me at the same time.
Hi, i feel for you, I did do a video trying sgraffito on air dry clay here: th-cam.com/video/f7cm5oxZb64/w-d-xo.html but it is really not the same, I did my best, maybe you can think of a better way.
I tried to get the Amazon.CA but for some reason I can't get it to connect properly, will try again, to be honest I don't get many people using the links, so wasn't sure how essential it was sorry, thank you and I hope you find another craft love
Pretty! I love your work!
Thank you! 😊
The dish turned out very beautiful. Thanks for sharing ❤
My pleasure 😊 thanks for watching
Beautiful colors and you have a very pleasant voice too!
Thank you and glad you enjoyed 😊❤️
I'm just starting out with air dry clay, so would love to try this sort of thing, i have the clay only so what other tools do you suggest for a beginner?
Take a look at this video
th-cam.com/video/aBphtkzXlWM/w-d-xo.html you really don’t need complex tools and this video shows the basics of collecting together simple tools, thanks
This is stunning
Thank you, glad you like 😊
Design so beautiful

Loved it ❤️
Thank you 😊🌸🌼
Fantastic!
Thank you, happy to hear you like 💕
Thank you for this great video. Can you please post which of your video's you discuss the different varnishes, as I couldn't easily see which video it is. 😊
Thank you, a while back I made a video and about varnishes but I am currently making a new version, so coming soon ❤️😊
@@RedRockingBird Nice! Looking forward to your new video. Thanks!
Beautiful x
Thank you 😊
Wow ❤
too kind, thank you ❤

What was that pencil for the blk dotes? My hands shake something crazy and that looked super helpful!
Edit:
Oh were you just using it cuz pointy like you do w the back of the paintbrush
Yes, exactly it’s just a pencil or and pen or stick that can form a nice dome of paint on the end to then dip and dot, works a treat, thanks, Sarah 😊
Nicely done
Thank you 😊🌺🌼🌸❤️
These are stunning. Is it possible to use the finished product for eating hot & cold foods & beverages? Thank you❤
Thank you, air dry clay is for decorative and craft purposes only as it’s not food safe 🌼
Love the colours in this project.. How thick did you roll the clay?
Thank you, about 6 or 7mm 🌸🌼🌺😊
@@RedRockingBird thanks very much. Love watching your videos 😍
@@dawndeluca ❤️😁
I painting my piece with gesso and let it dry fully for a day and when I painted it with acrylic there was a humid spot I tried to removed the paint let it dry reapply the same steps but it ended up peeling of as if it did't get attached to it at all like it peeled in one coat
Did I reply to this on another thread, I remember writing a reply…unless it deleted before sending 🤔
is this varnish dishwasher safe? and how long does a tray like this last?
It’s not advisable to put clay in the dishwasher and definitely not this project, but for fun I did put this air dry clay project in the dishwasher:
th-cam.com/video/DagikXT8zwQ/w-d-xo.html
Once varnished air dry clay is wipe clean only
So cute
Thank you 😊🌸🌺
Which varnish did you use in this video? Love the finish ❤
I think this was DAS, did you see this video all about varnishing air dry clay
th-cam.com/video/eDoqed_7SSs/w-d-xo.html
@@RedRockingBirdI have watched the video thank you 😊
@@junebug3807 wonderful hope it helped ❤️

I have a question. Is the varnish in the end necessary? I am trying to make a little sculpture as affordable as I can and I wonder if it needs to be varnished or the paint will crack or something?
To protect your piece as much as possible varnish is recommended or if you have something similar like in this video:
Air Dry Clay - How to Glaze and Finish
th-cam.com/video/z0dtdQFQ-wM/w-d-xo.html
As long as the piece doesn’t get damp you may be ok but if it got splashed with anything this would soak in and maybe stain
The varnish also seals the acrylic paint 🎨
Am going to look at your varnish examples too
I bought one from polysil
How does it not break when you were sanding it? It looks so durable!
Here’s my durability video:
Air Dry Clay - Durability
th-cam.com/video/kSdINQ8KGBI/w-d-xo.html
Which hopefully answers your questions, thanks
I am curious..other channels say to cover it with a finish before painting as painting makes it moist and could create cracking. Do you find this to be true?
I have sealed before painting in other videos but I now find that the clay paints better on the bare clay and the most important layer is the final, to seal everything in all together, 1 or 2 coats of varnish of your choice does the job
@RedRockingBird Thankyou!!! Have you tried the color shifting acrylic paints on clay?
@@Starsofneon not in acrylics no, but I have the powder 👍💜
I'm so sorry to bother you, but can you please tell me the varnish you used on this adorable tray ? Thank you so much !! ❤️
Hi, it’s the DAS gloss, I’m in the process of doing a follow up video for this, all about the possible top coats, as the previous video I made needs updating around this subject, thanks 😊🌼

I love it 🥹♥️ can I please ask you why do my acrylic paint peel off the clay every time I used gesso before acrylic and when applying the paint they peel off with the gesso and I was quite sure it is fully dry
Thanks, I don't use gesso like some people do, I find acrylic straight onto the bare clay works for me and then a really good varnish over this, drying time between each stage needs to be longer than we think, otherwise the acrylic paint does have a higher chance of peeling, best of luck ♥️

My clay isn't att all that soft as yours and it has so many cracks at first.. why?
Many people say this about different brands and sometimes DAS and I’m really not sure if it’s DAS as mine here in the UK always comes out soft when it’s a new pack
Hm.. I have the exact same one as you do in the video, but while rolling it into a ball it literally crumbles to pieces🥲🥲
@@feliciaj2285 try taking a small piece and really knead it between your fingers, if it really is dry then wet your hands slightly and knead, is if it come together then and when in a ball smooth all the cracks out with your thumb and then gently roll, hope that helps
The air dry clay I buy is too soft that it goes completely flat if I leave it sitting
That doesn’t sound good, I’d change brand to be honest and find a way to use what you already have for a flatter project 🤷🏻♀️
Hi Sarah, how would you price such a dish, to sell online, please?
Hi, that is a really tough one but as a basic I’d work out the hourly rate I wanted to be paid and times that by how many hours each piece took to make, then add on all material costs and selling costs. If you can batch make to sell this will save you time and keep cost down. As an artist it’s easy to undersell ourselves, but try and keep away from undercutting competitors and selling yourself short, best of luck ❤️
@@RedRockingBird Many thanks for getting back to me so quickly! How much would you consider the hourly rate please?
@@user-jc9ck6gy6g another tough one but anything from £15-£30+ per hour depending on experience or how you value your time, others may say different, best of luck
@@RedRockingBird Thank you very much, Sarah, much appreciated! 💜
my four year old did that!
👏
