When making clay pins, what do you think of pressing the pin needles directly into the clay and fixating them with slip? Wouldn't that be stronger than using glue?

Thank you, good to hear you’re enjoying my videos, plenty to see over here 😁 You can imbed the pin into the clay, as long as you then coat in something strong like resin, to ensure the clay does not snap. I like to glue the pin on with a super strong super glue or resin, they stay on that way. Happy crafting ❤️😊

I use to do pottery, but because of a neuromuscular autoimmune disease I can no longer throw pots and I miss it so much. My main deco type was sgraffito. Can you do sgraffito on air dry clay? Have you ever tried it? Can you get Canadian links for your products. I know the US is probably your biggest viewer, but if you can get affiliate links for Canada, it would help you, and me at the same time.

To protect your piece as much as possible varnish is recommended or if you have something similar like in this video: Air Dry Clay - How to Glaze and Finish th-cam.com/video/z0dtdQFQ-wM/w-d-xo.html As long as the piece doesn’t get damp you may be ok but if it got splashed with anything this would soak in and maybe stain

This looks great. I wonder if it's me or the clay I have been sold, but with what I have here it is very breakable, nearly crumbly after drying. I couldn't pick up a dish like that it would brake from me picking it up on one side and touching it with the paintbrush on the other side.
@@RedRockingBird It is actually just Calles DIY, I am situated in Germany, so have different brands available than you. I thought I was doing something demonstrably wrong and felt just stupid. After watching your video, and the one on durability I tried out a different brand I had picked up somewhere else yesterday. (I had not wanted to after my epic fail) Just making a small plaque out of both clay I had here doing the same to both. Lo and behold, one snapped as soon as I took it up, the other survived being thrown to the floor. I am not to stupid to use air dry clay, the stuff I bought is shit! Thank you for making me realise, now I can try making something.

I am curious..other channels say to cover it with a finish before painting as painting makes it moist and could create cracking. Do you find this to be true?
I have sealed before painting in other videos but I now find that the clay paints better on the bare clay and the most important layer is the final, to seal everything in all together, 1 or 2 coats of varnish of your choice does the job
I painting my piece with gesso and let it dry fully for a day and when I painted it with acrylic there was a humid spot I tried to removed the paint let it dry reapply the same steps but it ended up peeling of as if it did't get attached to it at all like it peeled in one coat
Hi, that is a really tough one but as a basic I’d work out the hourly rate I wanted to be paid and times that by how many hours each piece took to make, then add on all material costs and selling costs. If you can batch make to sell this will save you time and keep cost down. As an artist it’s easy to undersell ourselves, but try and keep away from undercutting competitors and selling yourself short, best of luck ❤️

Thanks, I don't use gesso like some people do, I find acrylic straight onto the bare clay works for me and then a really good varnish over this, drying time between each stage needs to be longer than we think, otherwise the acrylic paint does have a higher chance of peeling, best of luck ♥️

Many people say this about different brands and sometimes DAS and I’m really not sure if it’s DAS as mine here in the UK always comes out soft when it’s a new pack
@@feliciaj2285 try taking a small piece and really knead it between your fingers, if it really is dry then wet your hands slightly and knead, is if it come together then and when in a ball smooth all the cracks out with your thumb and then gently roll, hope that helps

The process I enjoy most is actually prepping the clay and then forming the shapes I need. It feels good in my hands.

I use a nail buffer sponge to smoothen the edges, it works very well! Your vid is so cool, thank you!

My clay isn't att all that soft as yours and it has so many cracks at first.. why?

The air dry clay I buy is too soft that it goes completely flat if I leave it sitting
That doesn’t sound good, I’d change brand to be honest and find a way to use what you already have for a flatter project 🤷🏻♀️
