    Which part of the process do you enjoy most, or think you will?

      The process I enjoy most is actually prepping the clay and then forming the shapes I need. It feels good in my hands.

    Really digging (through) your videos, you give super useful tips! :) Love this dish, the colors are amazing and unusual!
    I've got a question about another video that is from 2 years ago where you showed how you make pins. Asking here since i don't know if you read comments on videos as old like that.
    When making clay pins, what do you think of pressing the pin needles directly into the clay and fixating them with slip? Wouldn't that be stronger than using glue?

    • @RedRockingBird
      @RedRockingBird  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Awesome! Thank you, good to hear you’re enjoying my videos, plenty to see over here 😁
      You can imbed the pin into the clay, as long as you then coat in something strong like resin, to ensure the clay does not snap. I like to glue the pin on with a super strong super glue or resin, they stay on that way. Happy crafting ❤️😊

    I use to do pottery, but because of a neuromuscular autoimmune disease I can no longer throw pots and I miss it so much. My main deco type was sgraffito. Can you do sgraffito on air dry clay? Have you ever tried it?
    Can you get Canadian links for your products. I know the US is probably your biggest viewer, but if you can get affiliate links for Canada, it would help you, and me at the same time.

    • @RedRockingBird
      @RedRockingBird  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      To protect your piece as much as possible varnish is recommended or if you have something similar like in this video:
      Air Dry Clay - How to Glaze and Finish
      th-cam.com/video/z0dtdQFQ-wM/w-d-xo.html
      As long as the piece doesn’t get damp you may be ok but if it got splashed with anything this would soak in and maybe stain

After watching your video, and the one on durability I tried out a different brand I had picked up somewhere else yesterday. (I had not wanted to after my epic fail) Just making a small plaque out of both clay I had here doing the same to both. Lo and behold, one snapped as soon as I took it up, the other survived being thrown to the floor. I am not to stupid to use air dry clay, the stuff I bought is shit! @RedRockingBird  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have sealed before painting in other videos but I now find that the clay paints better on the bare clay and the most important layer is the final, to seal everything in all together, 1 or 2 coats of varnish of your choice does the job

    Hi Sarah, how would you price such a dish, to sell online, please?

    • @RedRockingBird
      @RedRockingBird  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi, that is a really tough one but as a basic I’d work out the hourly rate I wanted to be paid and times that by how many hours each piece took to make, then add on all material costs and selling costs. If you can batch make to sell this will save you time and keep cost down. As an artist it’s easy to undersell ourselves, but try and keep away from undercutting competitors and selling yourself short, best of luck ❤️

      @@RedRockingBird Many thanks for getting back to me so quickly! How much would you consider the hourly rate please?

    • @RedRockingBird

      @@MarcelaTica another tough one but anything from £15-£30+ per hour depending on experience or how you value your time, others may say different, best of luck

    I love it 🥹♥️ can I please ask you why do my acrylic paint peel off the clay every time I used gesso before acrylic and when applying the paint they peel off with the gesso and I was quite sure it is fully dry

    • @RedRockingBird
      @RedRockingBird  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks, I don't use gesso like some people do, I find acrylic straight onto the bare clay works for me and then a really good varnish over this, drying time between each stage needs to be longer than we think, otherwise the acrylic paint does have a higher chance of peeling, best of luck ♥️

    My clay isn't att all that soft as yours and it has so many cracks at first.. why?

    • @RedRockingBird
      @RedRockingBird  ปีที่แล้ว

      Many people say this about different brands and sometimes DAS and I’m really not sure if it’s DAS as mine here in the UK always comes out soft when it’s a new pack

      Hm.. I have the exact same one as you do in the video, but while rolling it into a ball it literally crumbles to pieces🥲🥲

      @@feliciaj2285 try taking a small piece and really knead it between your fingers, if it really is dry then wet your hands slightly and knead, is if it come together then and when in a ball smooth all the cracks out with your thumb and then gently roll, hope that helps

    The air dry clay I buy is too soft that it goes completely flat if I leave it sitting

    • @RedRockingBird
      @RedRockingBird  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That doesn’t sound good, I’d change brand to be honest and find a way to use what you already have for a flatter project 🤷🏻‍♀️

    is this varnish dishwasher safe? and how long does a tray like this last?

    • @RedRockingBird
      @RedRockingBird  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s not advisable to put clay in the dishwasher and definitely not this project, but for fun I did put this air dry clay project in the dishwasher:
      th-cam.com/video/DagikXT8zwQ/w-d-xo.html
      Once varnished air dry clay is wipe clean only
