Very much appreciated your analytical review of the Vantage. And the disclosure of your engineering background adds a considerable credibility to the review. I also also appreciate the fact that you acknowledge the fact that these classes/types of car are purchased with a combination of heart and head. Thank you - great job!

Glad you enjoyed it, and hopefully the car too if you decide to get one ✌️

The Graziano 6-speed box as has been mentioned above is an automated manual. Same gearbox as the manual. A read of the ASM SportShift Drivers manual tells you how to get the most out of it. Downshifting is quicker on SS and upshifting can be achieved without taking your foot off the accelerator when you're doing 'hypershift' giving a slightly quicker shift.
Under normal paddleshift operation, a lift of the accelerator helps smooth the gear change.
The transmission just takes some time to get used to, once you do, it's really rather good. A popular modification is to fit the V12 clutch and flywheel.
    I wouldn't use 'D' on SportShift personally.
    Nice review. Love mine. 🙂

Sounds like the same essential operation to the 2005 Vanquish S I covered later, the main difference being that one didn't have the 'D' drive option at all

@@HSGAutomotive it is very similar, yes although the Vanquish S uses an older style system which is a little slower and more clunky.
There are 3 version of SportShift on VH chassis Vantage, there's the SportShift 1 which is found in 4.3 Vantage, SportShift 2 which came out mid way through 4.7 production I think, both 6 speed, but used a slightly different ASM unit and ECU, the final iteration was SportShift 3 which was found in Vantage V12S which is a 7-speed and really rather good. SS1 isn't without it's shortcomings, it can be evolved and modified though, as mentioned with V12 flywheel (which is much lighter) and the twin plate clutch (Vs SS1 and SS2's single plate) and some rewriting of the software, it can be made to feel significantly better. Believe it or not, the transmission found in One-77 is the same 6-speed ASM system as found in SS1 Vantage. It has much better software though which can be used on SS1 equipped Vantages.

Always loved the V8 Vantage. The Short Wheelbase and Cracking engine had me sold from the moment I saw one. Sound Great Aswell.

Excellent Comments. Absolutely true. I drive a 2007 V8 Vantage daily and it is a car, no endless screens, no bing bing all the time, no needless options that disturb more than help; its pure and amazing. But, it is not a racecar: it is enjoying driving and enjoy your life. There are some silly details, but... thats real life.

Agree with pretty much all you said, but... it's not an automatic gearbox in the true sense. Sportshift II is automated manual. Basically it's a manual gearbox with a computer controlled electronic shifter. You need to drive it with that in mind to get the best out of it.

Very lovely review that I was looking for. Loved the sound and the looks.
It doesn't has to be German to be good.

0:14 is that a Sierra? Maybe a Cosworth RS? Oh man I'd love to see a review on that machine, sometimes it feels like you don't give rally cars the love they deserve! Give it a go if they let you Mike.

@@HSGAutomotive I'm not saying that Mike, I know for a fact that you feature them on here because I've been subscribed since de GT Sport Beta and I've watch a huge amount of GT6 reviews. I'm just saying that you tend to favor other types of cars (because of your liking) and that I would like to see more stuff related to rally in GT, Forza and IRL. Cheers

Since you're a fan of automatics, can i assume you've had a fair share of cars with the zf8hp trans? If yes, what are your thoughts on the trans?

Don't agree with it being similar to a quattroporte but more like a gransport . They both are more similar then the aston and quattroporte.
