Seeing the process, and the development of those backgrounds was so inspiring. We all struggle to make pages work, and this is proof that sticking with them and not giving up, and trusting your instincts is worthwhile. I just know you'll put those pages to good use. As for the paints, perhaps some sponging, dry brushing and stamping with the masks will be less frustrating than the gelli plate. Thank you for taking us along on the journey!
Thank you Sue, I’ll definitely be using the paints as I love the colours however I won’t be using them on my gel plate, sponging is a favourite technique of mine so they’ll definitely get used.
The purple and turquoise together are great! And somehow you manage to get me to like the yellows, ochres, and those hues! I've never been a yellow fan. I grew up a redhead and yellow gave me green skin tones so not a fan! But you do absolutely great things with them so you are definitely broadening my horizons!!
Keep persevering and arting. These are nothing to sniff at; they still look good and have lots of interest. You tried something and learned some things. I hope you have a delightful day. Love&hugs
Thank you Darcy, I’ve learnt that if you keep pushing through you’ll end up somewhere….it may be an unexpected destination but you’ll be somewhere. I’ll now use those paints as mixers with other paints and for sponging with after all i was attracted to the colours.
Your frustration and maybe some disappointment was definitely palatable this video. Some days are struggles and new products can be diff to use the first time but you ended up with 2 backgrounds that are workable and a video showing not everything comes easily. Bravo.
Thank you, I’ve kept the paints as I don’t throw paint aware but I now will use them to mix further colours with paints I normally use. They do work for my sponging technique, so no waste there.
I thought you did a great job with both of them and I know how frustrating using products that just aren't acting quite the way you anticipated can be. You are a pro and handled it so well.
Ceri, thank you for doing your best to work through these 2 prints. It was obvious that you were uncomfortable with the paints and the color choices but you soldiered on until you were satisfied. This video will be very important to me as a reminder that we all struggle sometimes and the color palettes are always skewed by our preferences as I quite liked the purple / touquoise background before you used the transparent red. I thought that maybe a little navy and some silver could have been beneficial to its completion. The orange/brown background was not my cup of tea- I so wanted you to add some teal to it😄, but again that was my skew. You were happy with it and in the end isn’t that all that matters. Sometimes when I am struggling with a background I will stop and let it sit for a day while I mull it over in my mind then come back to it. I have a red palette background I started yesterday that is sitting right now on my table awaiting my return tomorrow.
Thank you and yes I recommend walking a way for a while if you’re struggling however with the camera running I felt I needed to complete and not give up, we all learn lesson both by doing and by watching.
Oh Ceri. I really had my doubts about the outcome as you were working through these pages. But you managed to push through and have some success. I knew you would :) It's so important that we show the struggles as much as the positive outcomes in art. Thank you for another interesting and helpful video.
those both turned out quite pretty! regarding being surprised by paints we bought: it was a fabric paint, but there is a specific USAmerican brand of fabric paint where, for some reason, the matte white paint is chock FULL of fine glitter. i've bought at least three bottles of it thinking, 'oh, maybe it was just that one bottle, maybe it was a weird batch, or maybe i accidentally bought glitter paint on accident'. nope, they're just all like that. love that mustard color you used with the diamonds on the first piece!
I think the gelli prints turned out wonderful. I could see you struggle but you turned them around into beautiful prints. I also want to wish you a very Happy Birthday. I remembered you saying your Birthday was January 5th when your bought your early birthday present to yourself. Your baron. It is the same day as my sister's birthday so it was easy for me to remember. I hope you have a wonderful Birthday Ceri. Enjoy your day. 🎂
Hi Ceri!! Thank you so much for persisting. Your process is great and helps us learn how to adjust along the way. Truthfully, your backgrounds are lovely and will make gorgeous ATCs and also great journal covers. We are always our own worst critic. When I step away and come back to a project I may have struggled with, I usually find it to be a success! I hope you do too. Thank you! ❤
I never write because my English is not good but I understand it better. I first saw your video a few weeks ago and I'm completely fascinated by your art and the many things you talk about and what you're thinking when you do one thing or another, so I subscribed right away. I have been watching a lot of videos and have learned a lot from you. Good luck in continuing to develop your art. Your personality is also very charming. Happy birthday🥰🤗
i liked the butterfly background best too, but think both turned out quite handsome! British-isms are contagious too, and i enjoy getting to learn them! 😊
😃I really like what you created. I think the Stamperia paints are a bit too heavy bodied, more like a tube paint and less like a soft body jar paint. Both have their place in the art world but indeed completely different in application. I believe if you use them with your credit card application you may like them a little better. I can honestly say I know how it feels to make a video and create something less than I had hoped but? They are out there! 😆 I very much enjoyed watching your process and how you decided to do each layer. Truly it helps me understand. I like your completed backgrounds very much. I think when you look at them another day you will like them better too. Many Thanks my friend!
Thank you, I’m happy with the result just not the journey to make them work. I loved the colours of the paints but they just don’t do it for me on a gel plate.
Happy New Year, Ceri! Thank you so much for this and all of your other videos. I have learned so much from you. Thank you for sharing endeavours whose outcomes you are really pleased with, and also ones where your response is more along the lines of ‘I don’t mind that’. And regarding accent - how you pronounce words doesn’t matter, I think. Your authenticity is beyond question.
I ❤them both, Honestly, and loved watching your work through your frustrations! As creators, we need to see the process of continuing past the stage of “I’m done, it’s going in the trash!” I can do a whole day of gelli printing and only come out with a hand full of favorites, but oodles of collage fodder. Thank you
Hi Ceri! Happy New Year 🎉 Wishing you the absolute best of health, happiness and prosperity for 2023. Sorry I haven’t been on. I’m just running out and saw you pop on. Lol. Had to say hi. As always, thank you for sharing❤
I think they turned out really well, they always do with you. I sensed you were disappointed with them, but I know you’ll continue to work on it until it’s more to your liking. Great work as always Ceri.
Janet it was just that they were a little bit of Struggle to do, I like them and with time I’m sure I’ll love them. Challenge is good it pushes you to another level of creativity.
Hi Ceri! I actually like the Stamperia paints. I find them to have a silky feel but a matte, almost like chalk paint look without the chalkiness. Lol And I love the muted colors too. But I've only used them in mixed media, never in jelli. But it does dry quickly. BTW Ihaven't tried it yet, but I did see on the gelli arts channel where they used clear gesso to pick up a paint image that had dried. And you can come to the US and mix your dialects and language any way you'd like we to! Thank you for keeping the camera on. It's good to get the good the bad and the gnarly! 🙂
Thank you laura, yes the colours are great and I love chalk paints so they were exactly what I hoped but some paints I guess just don’t work well on a gel plate….or in my option they don’t.
Ceri: your pages turned out fine. Maybe not your favorites, but I bet you’ll add to them in one way or another and they will be exciting. It will be interesting to see what you’ll do with them. Carol from California
Carol I have a box of prints I call my keepers and one day I’ll decide what to do with them, I’d like to think one day I could create a 12x12 pad of them that I could then share with others. Fingers crossed.
Gelli Printing is always a process of surprises. :) I was wondering if you could splatter the orange one with some magenta paint or ink and the yellow one with gold? But I'm glad you persevered...they ended up lovely.
I think by the end of the video I was just happy to have got them to a place where they were acceptable, splatters may have been a good idea but I just wanted done with these at the time.
Out of your frustration came some beautiful backgrounds! I'm curious, have you ever done photo transferring on your Gelli plate? As always an interesting video!😘
I think I’ve mentioned it in past videos but don’t hold me to that, I’ve a bottle of baby oil and I’ve also got a bottle of food grade mineral oil, I use the baby oil for quick wipe downs at the end of a printing session and then I’ll use the mineral oil if I’m doing a really good cleaning session….about once a month.
Yes you could use an extended however all of my other paints don’t require it only this collection of paints so id rather not add an extra step in my creative process. Thank you for the information on the Baren.
The Stamperia paint collections are designed to go with their paper collections. The paint collection you have in this video go with the Lady Vagabond Lifestyle collection, so the colours co-ordinate with that collection. You can buy the paints separately too, and they have quite a range, so you can always get other paints to suit your palette.
To be honest I massage a few drops of mineral oil into the surface, let it sit for a few minutes and then wipe off any excess with a clean paper towel. The oil I use can either be baby oil or a mineral oil meant for conditioning wooden chopping boards. I think a lot of us have our own opinions on what works and I think the companies who produce the gel plates say not to condition them so I think at the end of the day the decision is yours and yours alone. I feel my plates work better when they’ve been conditioned.
I've learned so much from your videos. Just curious though, wondering why you don't ever do paint splatters? I often think that would be the perfect touch. No offense intended.
Kris no offence taken, I do do paint splatters but I use them sparingly and they’re often on my tags or journal cards….maybe I should do them a little more on my bigger pieces but I usually forget when I’m in the moment.
I felt your frustration while you were making these but as always you turned your ugly ducklings into something beautiful. I’m not a fan of orange but even I like them. So I would say you didn’t waste any paper or paint 😊

You are so welcome!
I thought you did a great job with both of them and I know how frustrating using products that just aren't acting quite the way you anticipated can be. You are a pro and handled it so well.
Thank you I feel the struggle paid off, I love the paint colours but they’re not good on the plate. I’ll certainly use them in other ways.
Thanks for keeping it real Ceri! We are our worst critics. I’m glad you stuck it out , I get easily frustrated with myself.
Terri I think we all get that. Thank you

Those who want to know complementary colors. I found The Color Catalog helpful for color combos.
Love the prints as always.
Thank you Sandy, I very often will use objects or clothing and colour combination inspiration.

You worked very hard and produced two beautiful papers. Thank you ❤
Thank you so much
Phew! Well done. I was worried about all that red but buttermilk and your stencils saved the day!
Thank you Karen.
Persistence paid off. Great work!!
Yes! Thank you, took some doing though and I nearly gave up a couple of times.
You managed to come up with nice backgrounds. Glad you persevered.
Thank you! 😊

Yup we’ve all got those stories we think we bought one thing and end up with another, usually because the packaging is similar or branded.

I'm super sad this wasn't fun for you, but, I LOVED watching the process!
It wasn’t enjoyable at the time but looking back it was a fun challenge of my skills
You create the most beautiful papers.
Thank you there are some that don’t make it though.

Wonderful.

Absolutely what I do, my tissue background draw is normally overflowing and my 12x12 backgrounds are few but the ones I love are definitely keepers.
Happy New Year🎉 Happy Birthday🎉
Happy printing
Happy new year and thank you
Bought the PM stencils and they are great looking… esp HH!

I wonder if the paints are formulated to provide a quick-dry one-coat background on MDF blanks. It would explain their viscosity and behaviour.
I believe you may be correct Russel
Out of your frustration came some beautiful backgrounds! I'm curious, have you ever done photo transferring on your Gelli plate? As always an interesting video!😘
Yes I have done transfers of images and keep forgetting to do it, I should start collecting images as they’d be great for my collage work.
