lol I was there and witnessed it. I sat through the remainder of the event and they were right to leave. They didn't miss much.
I'm honestly glad they started the game awards with this so that I didn't have to sit thru so much just to see the reveal.

A game I've been playing has been counting how many notes of One Winged Angel it takes for people to realize it's Sephiroth. Average is about 4.
This is what I love about this reveal. You don’t even gotta play the game to know it’s Sephiroth. Once you hear One Winged Angel you already know who it is. At least for me. Sephiroth is literally the Darth Vader or Thanos of video games. A legendary villain that’s well known

I notice that this video pretty much has everyone who immediately identified that it was Sephiroth when One Winged Angel started playing. There are lots of people out there who didn't know who it was until they saw him, which makes me sad. Lots of kids on TH-cam who hear One Winged Angel and don't understand how much of a deal it is.

I have never played a final fantasy game before, but this trailer was hype af even though I dont know who he is
Sephiroth is the main villain in Final Fantasy VII (the most popular Final Fantasy game) and the of most well known villain in the entire Final Fantasy franchise......so yeah, his inclusion is a pretty big deal.
Play FF7 (1997) ASAP, none of the youtubers in this video recognized SAFER SEPHIROTH, Sephiroth's final form in the game, i expect his final smash too be the supernova summoning.

Not necessarily. Square is in the middle of their Final Fantasy Remake trilogy, so putting in Sephiroth is good hype for their own series. It makes sense when you sit down and think about it.

The implication is terrifying. In “Advent Children,” he just stabbed Cloud right through with the blade, but here, he has proven that he’s gotten so good at wielding a sword that he can catch Mario so precisely that he only lifts him by a single strap. He is _even more dangerous_ here than ever.
And it's wonderful when they start dueling and mario just flies off the blade

consider this for the next reveal. the entire smash cast is having a beach trip and everyone’s having fun. greninja swims far out into the ocean to show off his swimming skills when he suddenly collides with a small island. there were no islands as far as he could see past this and dives below the water to see why this random island in a bare ocean is present, when he sees and odd set of structures. a large rock, a tall tiki head and a giant pineapple...?
And then in comes Crash in his scuba gear. I could see it.

I distinctly remember one of my friends getting so hyped that we could not hear his S/O say anything on account of how loud he was yelling. What I find interesting is that Sephiroth's actual theme is "Those Chosen by the Planet" but "One-Winged Angel" has completely overshadowed it in the eyes of the greater community to the point where people who've never played FFVII can recognize it after 4 notes
