    Thanks, Corey. You’ve helped me with several DIY maintenance jobs on my 2019 Hyundai Kona SEL FWD. I appreciate your knowledge and videos very much.

    You took them apart farther than I did. The front ones just needed a c-clamp , but the back ones needed to be turned clockwise. I tried to use a c-clamp and quickly found I was wrong. It was time to check the internet. Thank you for showing me what to do!

    Thanks man! I had to get that tool to reset the caliper piston before I started the job! Good thing I watched you video before starting the job! 👍

    Great video and very informative. Tried this myself and it worked well.
    One suggestion for Canadians is that you can rent the special caliper tool for free from Canadian Tire. Just give a deposit and return it later.
    It was not mentioned but the caliper can be really tight to get off after 4 years on the road. I used a large screwdriver in strategic strong points at the top and bottom to wiggle it off and that seemed to do the trick.
    The OEM front brake pads come with a special substance that is supposed to dampen noise. It seems like that is used in place of the anti-seize above and below the brake pad.

      @@MrCoreyMartinhey corey. I just did my kona 2019 today but I've watched ur tutorial. Thanks for that. Question though, you just opened the reservoir of your brake fluid. My dad was so mad at me today when i did that because he said I'm supposed to put a cloth surrounding the reservoir to prevent the brake fluid from overflowing and dropping towards the wirings and engine parts below. He said the brake fluid will surely corrode the wiring and paints. What's your take about that?

    • @MrCoreyMartin
      @MrCoreyMartin  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Dann-md9eq Your Dad brings up a valid point. Putting a rag around the reservoir would be a great preventative measure.

    Very good instruction. I will be doing this in the spring too. In my country, in winter, huge amounts of salt are sprinkled on the roads in winter ( I guess they got paid a premium per ton)🤪, so the chassis, suspension, and brakes have a hard time. One question. Does the piston on the other side also screw in clockwise (with the same tool) I have a set with only one screw (clockwise) for pressing the piston. Greetings from Poland!!!

    • @MrCoreyMartin
      @MrCoreyMartin  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, we also have lots of salt here in Ontario, Canada. Yes, both sides were clockwise so that should work out well for you!

    Of course I don’t have the special comprehension tool. After 5 minutes of considering building my own tool I found out the wrench on my 4” mini grinder fits like a charm. It took me longer to find the wrench than it did todo the job.

    Looking at the manual I can’t find where to place the Jack besides the place u have the back stands. Where did you place it? Thanks

    • @MrCoreyMartin
      @MrCoreyMartin  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure I fully under stand your question, but I will attempt to answer it. The best place to jack it is on the "pinch weld" it runs the whole length of the car. Close to the back and the front of the pinch weld there is a thicker part. That is your jacking point. Since I needed to put jack stands there I had to jack it up in a different place. I did on the pinch weld as close to the jacking point as possible. This probably is not advised because that part of the pinch weld is not reinforced or designed for jacking. Another option would be jacking it in the appropriate spot and putting jack stands somewhere else on the frame or rear axle area etc.

    You don't need to open the master cylinder. Some people do, but you don't have to, I've done plenty of these without doing it, You're not opening the lines so there shouldn't be any kind of air or pressure loss. I agree with not bleeding the brakes. I've only done that twice on a Rav4 I used to have when I had to change the calipers. It's a huge PITA whether you do the 1-man method or 2-man method. Things like brakes and wheels should be torqued to spec. Things like speaker grills it doesn't really matter as long as it's not rattling. I have a torque wrench I use when it's time to put everything back on. And some things like say your oil pan you're going to want to use a torque wrench since over-tightening it could actually break the bolt and create a huge mess. I don't know if those screws are even necessary at all. I haven't had any other cars with screws holding the disc on. And I'm also not sure about those metal clips at the top of the pads, I've seen them, but only had one car with them and was never sure they made much difference.
    Two more tips: slide the wheel under the side of the car. I pulled so hard on my calipers on a Focus I used to have that I pulled it off the jack stands while my legs were partially under the car. It was the first day I remembered to put the wheel under the car. The car landed on the wheel, not my legs. And don't do this stuff barefoot. You'll have better leverage with shoes on. Even Crocs would be better than nothing. Good video, though.

    • @MrMaxPre
      @MrMaxPre 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @LORDRA1DEN, you mentioned torquing. Do you happen to know the torque specs for the two bolts securing the rear brake caliper bracket and the two bolts securing the rear brake caliper?

    • @LORDRA1DEN
      @LORDRA1DEN 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MrMaxPre I didn't do it to spec, just what felt right based on how hard it was to undo them. Tight, but not overly tight. TBH I'm tired of doing my own brakes. I may start buying the ones I want and having a shop put them on for half the price they usually charge.

    My local Mavis told me that the cost to replace rear pads/rotors on my 2021 Hyundai Kona is higher than the front because my car has "electronic calipers" on the rear. This sounds like a total scam to me...are they trying to grab me?

    • @MrCoreyMartin

  • @marklagace5728
    @marklagace5728 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    When you turn the cylinder you got to make sure its align with the pin thats behind the brake pads so it does not move when applying on brakes dont look like you did that . The pads wont wear even on rotor and that will screw up your brake job . On the front brakes you dont need to align it. Its because you need to turn cylinder in the back that wy the 2 holes need to be align with the little pin behind beake pads
