When a landscape doesn’t grab you: Glencoe and Loch Maree | Winter 2024 (Episode 1)

  • The first entry in a series documenting my winter landscape photography trip to the Scottish Highlands. In this episode, I'm heading north towards Assynt. Along the way I get soaked by a sleet storm at Loch Tulla and I scout Loch Maree first the first time. I don't spend long enough there though and this video starts a theme that stuck for the whole trip: I was always thinking of the next landscape, where if I had waited I could have bagged some spectacular images. Nonetheless, some images in this episode have potential and I took one with which I am happy.

Really nice video, from both content and processing. Your videos reflect the reality of landscape photography in difficult conditions.

Thank you for the kind words. Landscape photography is rarely a picnic, but when everything clicks, I can think of few things as satisfying 🏕️

Thanks mate. Yeah, posting is always going to be intermittent for me - much as I would love to post weekly. I've been enjoying your videos in the interim. This series took an age to edit though - took too many side quests in after effects 😂

That first location - when I first came to Scotland that line of trees was submerged up to the lower trunks, I couldn't stop that day so I made a note to come back. In the years since they have never been under water 😭
I'm really liking your stuff here Ed

Oh. That is torture. I was wondering if they ever get submerged - we had such a wet winter, I thought they would be under in February if they were ever gonna be. I'm still gonna give them a little look in on my way up north in September🤞

Spent my Honeymoon around Loch Maree, stunning place. As all of the West of Scotland is.

It is spectacular. I can't wait to revisit when I have a chance. I spent way too little time in Loch Maree this time around

As comfortable as it would be, the cost to use-time ratio doesn't justify a camper for me. I think it's best to use what you have and only upgrade when it becomes absolutely necessary. I have another trip in a fortnight - I've added a pullout awning and with a windbreak and that will serve me fine 🏕️

I'm glad you enjoyed it, Alan! The relaxing style of video is what I am going for-trying to take viewers there with the sounds of the landscape. I post intermittently, and I started less than a year ago, so who knows, maybe more followers will come :)

Beautiful litlle video Ed...looked gorgeous with the white tops on the peaks...I did notice at the beginning all your clothes on the dash drying off as you were driving along 🤣🤣🤣
Sorry we never got around to organising that trip earlier in the year, work has been overwhelming 🙄

Tell me about it. Work has just not stopped this spring. Currently booking holidays and weekends away for 2026! Re the clothes, cabin was pretty humid and toasty by the time I parked up for bed 😂 Thanks for watching and the feedback 👍
