We have some feliform carnivorans, a cat, a hyena, and a mongoose.
Life isn't fair, is it? Not many animal cubs can rival lion cubs for cuteness.
It just looks like the meerkat is annoyed by them most of the time lol

If ever they got released, they would die.

In general, reserves and shelters don't really push for these inter-species "friendships" unless they feel that it's the last chance for one (or both) of the animals to grow up 'functional' to put it in human terms. The chance of losing on government/NGO funding due to the bad rep of losing an animal due to a botched attempt is too much of a risk for it to be done willy-nilly.
Dogs have been used as companion animals to several species for decades with pretty good results. Even if they become a bit more dog-like, a pack animal that is able to socialize has a greater chance of surviving in the wild by mooching off the pack's kills than one who never developed any social skills due to being kept alone in captivity.
