    Physics used to be boring but now I found this channel he is like a mix between David Attenborough and Bear Grylls and it just makes physics sound so much more interesting.

    When using a dielectric I thought the electric field strength decreases due to positive potential at +ve plate getting smaller and negative potential at -ve plate getting smaller when the dipoles line up. So potential difference is smaller. Is that not the case?

      -dielectric consists of polar molecules
      -the negatively charged end of polar molecules are attracted to the positively charged plate and the positively charged end of polar molecules attracted to negatively charged plate
      - therefore the polar molecules align anti parallel to direction of electric field generated by plates
      - the polar molecules generate their own electric field which acts opposite to direction of the electric field generated by the plates
      - this reduces the strength of the overall electric field generated by the plates
      - if the charge across the capacitor is kept constant (which it should be when it’s fully charged) - a decrease in Voltage due to decrease in electric field strength. Since E=V/d and E is directly proportional to V. Must mean that capacitance has to increase for the charge across the capacitor be kept constant. Since CV=Q

      Generally geared towards UK A levels, but this does a great job for international A Levels. Just make sure you're covering all the syllabus points

    Why does more neutrons make a nucleus unstable ? Is it because the size / radius of the nucleus increases so the SNF becomes weaker ?

      I think its because they experience SNF but not electrostatic repulsion. Adding more protons makes more unstable as more repulsion. More neutrons also increases the distance between protons so repulsion is less.

      The strong nuclear force has an attractive range of 0.5-3fm so when the nucleus becomes large the nucleus becomes unstable and tries to make itself smaller by emitting an alpha particle etc
