I am so glad that I stumbled upon this video! I have actually been planning to move to London and this video was just what I needed to watch. This just makes me more excited about London! :)
Where are you coming from? London is an incredible city but it might be quite a culture shock for you. I wish you well with your (forthcoming?) life in London. Also bear in mind London ISN'T England, there is so much more to see and do here in England.
Been living here for 16 years and decided to check whether any other country was worth moving to. After a lot of research i realised there is no place like the UK. The system just works.
nick260682 London is certainly not England - yes it is in England but the U.K. has so much more to offer than London only an totally closeted person would think that. I’ve lived in London, it’s a great city, but the vast majority of my life has been spent well away from London and I can tell you without question, that my quality of life has always been much better in the other places I’ve lived.
rufdymond No one said the rest of UK doesn’t have anything to offer, but obviously London has the most in a concentrated area by absolutely miles. You’re viewing it through the prism of your desire to live a bit more rurally. Not through a tourists eyes. Or actually if you’re gonna live in a city, London is the best by miles.
Everything you said was on point to how I feel!! I'm also from Toronto and moving to London in September. The passion I hear in your voice really makes me happy and super excited. Thanks for a great video :)
Ha! New York City is the greatest city in the world. Heck I would rate Paris and Hong Kong above London. Even major towns in Australia is better than London. If you're a tourist then you'll like London, live there long enough and you'll realize that its just an overrated dump.
I was born in London, but for my perfect night, give me a sleeping bag and a tent, and a deep dark forest to spend the night in, and listening to the birds sing as I wake up alone, watching the dawn
Hi Naila! This is the first video I watched this morning, and it got me so inspired! This might be a dumb question but how have you been able to keep living in London post the 2 year visa? Are you able to extend it?
Which part of London do you live? And how old were you when you moved to London? I'm moving to London on December this year :) Thank you for the video.
Just stumbled upon this video today as I my spouse is from London and I might move over to London. Are you still in London because I see you have stopped uploading videos and just wanted to check if anything’s changed that made you back to head to Canada?
Most people in the uk love visiting London but in the next breath would tell you that they wouldn’t live their. The problem with cities especially large ones is that they are jam packed with people. It’s a fast pace but surprising not as much gets done space is important . Canada has much more space and probably has more sane people
Loved this video! I'm arriving in just six weeks and I'm so excited and nervous! I was reading the comments and saw quite a few of people who really seem to hate immigrants. How has your experience been in that regard? I'm from Latin America and I'm kind of nervous about it. I am white as my family is actually Italian and I speak almost without an accent so I was ok when I went there for the first time but seeing Brexit and all that I'm afraid of racism...
Don't worry about the racist morons, most have left London as it's too much for them. London is incredibly diverse and most of us love the variety, the cultural influences and the fascinating similarities and differences. Come with an open mind and you'll have a great time.
Afraid there are a small cadre of racist types who search for nice videos like this and try to spoil them with their nasty comments. They are definitely not typical of most people in London, nor anywhere else in the UK for that matter. London has long been a cosmopolitan city and that's how we like it.
Reggie Plays Interesting to hear your thoughts are a year or so later...? What you’ll find on these travel videos about London is that loads of bitter racist people from outside of London, who don’t know anything about London feel the need to say how London isn’t English anymore (over 5 million English people live here!) and how you won’t hear English spoken (absolute nonsense) What you have to remember is that most of them have barely every left their shitty ex coal mining town up north and they’re jealous and bitter that London is thriving. As another commenter said, London is multicultural - always has been - it was built by the Romans! And we like it like that.
Mark Gable They aren’t all coming here though are they. Vast proportions of the country are rolling green hills with a smattering of villages. London is a massive multicultural city and ALWAYS has been. It was founded by Italians for fuck sake. I’m born and bred London English as are most of my mates, but quite a few of them have partners from elsewhere- America, Croatia, Spain, also second generation Italian and Indian. It’s just not a problem for us who live here. It only seems to bother people from elsewhere in the country. You can go round London and it’s vastly different depending on which part you’re in. Places like Richmond, Sutton, Hampstead, Teddington, Islington (I could go on) are very very English. Other parts there are lots of immigrant communities. It’s the way it’s always been. Often the most multicultural parts are also the most fun. 99.9% of immigrants are just normal people like you and me.
Mark Gable I’ve lived in London my whole life, and obviously this is my opinion, but I’ve never loved it more than now. I don’t feel immigrants are ruining my quality of life.
Mark Gable There’s always been loads of immigrants, it’s a city built by immigrants and always populated by immigrants, and it’s always changing and it always has been constantly changing. If you don’t know that then you don’t know your history. I’d say over 5 million English people speaking English plus most people who move here speaking English is a lot of English being spoken in London. But in any case I don’t care if I hear speaking their own language amongst themselves. I tend to mind my business. Funny you mention New York, I was in a little supermarket there and they were doing announcements on the tannoy in English and Spanish cos of all the Central Americans that live there. And I guess you’re talking about brexit? London voted overwhelmingly to remain. It was the places with very little immigration ironically that were terrified of the foreigners that voted to leave. And let’s be clear, I know some people voted for other reasons, but like you implied, an awful lot of people voted because of their prejudices against foreigners.

Hi Naila my son. Lives in central London. I think you will find lots of native Brits do they just get on with life. We are a welcoming people with a rich diverse history and are used to accepting new people, just look at the east end
Loved this video Naila! What was it that made you go okay I'm going to do this and move myself to a different country? Also have you been to Cambridge?
I have lived in Toronto and London. London has many great things to mention, it really is a unique, beautiful city. It's one of the best in the world. However I'm just going to mention 2 things I do not like: 1) what's with the short hours? Considering how lively and fast pace the city is, alot of stuff closes early. Tourist attraction closing at 5pm, retail shops closing at 6pm, pubs closing at midnight, London Undergeound closing just after midnight (minus on weekends though).but It's just strange to me that businesses are not open longer hours considering how many people are willing to stay out and spend money. Toronto is not even nearly as lively as London, but they do keep stuff open later to bring in money, London is like the opposite. 2) London really does have way to many business chains. High streets are constantly filled with the same chain retail shops, same restaurants, suprisingly a hell of a lot of fast food places and to many chain pubs everywhere. It mostly annoys me on the pubs, because I enjoy drinking, and the pub culture really is amazing in England, and many of the pubs are architecturely beautiful, but its constantly the same pubs on every high street with the same menus, same beers....after getting use to London I was surprised how chain dominated the city can be. I thought it would have more variety of these things and local stuff, but unfortunately I've been a bit disappointed.
London is great for an experience for a couple of years or to cash in, but it's not for the long haul. Too expensive to settle down, people are stressed, unfriendly, incredibly isolationist and the city lacks stable community becouse of the transient population. Not for me.
Personally as someone in London I disagree. London is very big and there are communities all over, for anyone. Maybe central is tougher but even then, a community can come from diversity I think. Also not everywhere is so expensive as central. And if you think people are unfriendly I think you met the wrong people or made the wrong friends.
Sounds like first job had dodgy people there when a person friendly like you didn't make friends still that's city life sometimes you've got to be careful stay safe well 😄😁😆
It's good to live in London - for a while. Too long and it starts to drain you. It's faster paced than most places and you just can't get away from people. The traffic is horrendous and the cost of living there is not cheap to say the least. I now live in the South East of the UK and it's so much more relaxed. You can actually go for a walk and not see a single human being which is impossible in London. It's cheaper to live here so you don't have to work all hours of the day just to afford the rent. Also, the air in London isn't the healthiest and you do find you feel much healthier when you move out. So, an exciting place with so much to see and do but eventually the novelty of this wears off and you just want to get away from it all.
Please I'm moving to London next week, please were in London has the best place, were i Can get a job, were i Can find a wife to marry? Please let me know,
"Most of thre core of London are actually not from London", so the indigenous population has been displaced? and this is a good thing? Wonder if American Indians think the same way.
Native Americans would probably be quite happy with people moving from around the world and living peacefully side by side under their existing culture and laws. Unfortunately, native Americans were murdered on an industrial scale and forcibly driven from their land.
why do North Americans seem to think London is the united Kingdom. there is great city's like Manchester, Liverpool, leeds, Birmingham all lively and foody friendly
Thomas James Mccormack They don’t, but be realistic, if you’re gonna visit a city in the UK, especially for the first time, London is obviously the best choice. It has the most amount of things that are interesting to tourists by absolutely miles.
Old Man you are an idiot, back when London was English everyone even the Brits thought it was crap, full of white drunkards shouting ‘oi, oi’ and then the only food available was the shitty English food like fish n’ chips, now it’s far better and more progressive
Van Damned. You are the idiot. Firstly London was created by the English. But also, if Britain was a democracy mass immigration would not have been allowed. So now we know Britain is not a democracy and London is a stink-hole dump because of it.
A variety of cultures and cuisines makes much of life more interesting...... within reasonable limits. I'm not sure that English people being a minority in their capital is something to celebrate (if, as you say, you actually like the place). Imagine going to Beijing and celebrating the relative lack of Chinese. A lot of those diverse people are nothing like you and don't share your values and attitudes. Not all, by any means, but enough.
I'm not sure that the core centre of London having no actual local Londoners is a good thing at all - personally I'm bloody proud of my English/British culture and feel it's being taken over by the influx of those that don't value it, appreciate it or even like it...and a prime example of that is the way the centre of London is starting to empty out of actual local born londoners!!
@Kay Flip Ignorant comment. The UK made the modern world. If you're a free person, you have the British Empire to thank, and if overseas cultures want to destroy that liberty instead of learn and defend it themselves, then I will die in a war to defend it.
