    Loved watching the entire series.. you have explained the process beautifully.. my kid was equally engrossed and excited in watching this.. thanks for making this tutorial.. when you were finding it difficult to insert the ship inside the bottle, we were equally tensed.. in the end, it gave us a sense of achievement even though we were just spectators..

      Thank you for the kind words on the show. I'm glad to hear that this was a family event. Getting children interested in woodworking and crafting is what will keep it going for the next generations as well as create memories that will last a lifetime for both you and your child. I hope that you will make the decision to move from spectator to maker because the satisfaction only intensifies with having your own ship in a bottle sitting on the shelf and being able to say "I made that". If you should make one, and have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. I'd be more than happy to answer your questions if I can. Thanks for tuning in to the show and taking the time to leave your comment. I truly appreciate it.

    This is kind of ironic! Last week I was involved in an obscene project of getting a huge air (not hair!) dryer into a structure that featured doorways (double) that were about 32” shorter than the dryer. Had to lay the behemoth on its back, roll it on pipes into the building, turn it 90 degrees, roll it another dozen feet (it was taller than the bottom cord of the roof trusses also), then stand it up with chain falls and many Rolaids. I told the young bucks that it was like building a ship in a bottle, and none had ever heard of such a thing! YOU’RE A WEEK LATE KENNY! I needed proof! Looking forward to this one! Thanks!

    I like this. I've been wanting to do this hobby since 2011. Back in 2019 I bought 3 books on the subject. All 3 books very short but gives sufficient instructions. @@acutabove_woodworkings I'm on episode 6 now. Watching the ship go inside and sit on the white silicone was really scary! The whole time I was watching that I was curious if the white silicone is strong enough to secure the ship. In 1 of the books I have the author says plasticine is another sea material. I have my tools and materials setup the exact same way you have this. How did you clean up the oops silicone in the neck? By far you're the best teacher on this subject because you respond to your viewers. I'm loving this series!

      @acutabove_woodworkings  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mrthomas7511 Thanks for the kind words on the series. The silicone in the neck was easily wiped up while it was still wet. There were a few small areas that I missed but they rubbed off quite easily after they were dry. As for the white silicone, it holds the ship perfectly and very securely. Much more secure than the modelling clay that a lot of builds suggest. As for it being scary with the ship squeezing into the bottle...you should have seen it from my point of view. I don't think I was breathing the entire time I was wiggling the ship through the bottle's opening. LOL. Glad to hear that you are enjoying the series.

    This is so fascinating and I never knew how this was done. I have a bottle that once held alcohol, the carved wood model inside seems to retain moisture...do you know how to rid the bottle of it? I was thinking of putting some of those moisture-control packets in there, but wanted to see if you had better advice!

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So you have a ship in a bottle (already made) that seems to hold the moisture. I have to ask, how do you know that the model retains the moisture. My suggestion for this would be to remove the bottle cap or cork and place it in a room with a dehumidifier running for a few days. I had one that had the inside of the glass fog up all the time and I realized that it was I had it near a window that the sunlight hit the glass and caused a change in temperature which fogged up the glass. I think it would be very unlikely that there would still be moisture in the bottle if it was made some time ago. I hope this helps a little. Thanks for tuning in to the show.

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There's no reason why you couldn't do that. You might have to make it in sections and then assemble it in the bottle the way that large pirate ships are done. Make the replica of your boat by splitting the hull in half so that it fits through the bottle neck and then glue it together once the pieces are in the bottle. I hope this helps. building a ship in a bottle to me means actually BUILDING it inside the bottle ... not making it outside and sliding it in ... done the latter way you are inserting a ship in a bottle NOT building it IN the bottle .. may as well cut the bottom off or cut it in half along the mold seam and build it that way then reseal it ..

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The method that I display in this series is a traditional method for making ships in bottles. There are no ships that are built, piece by piece inside the bottle. There is one slightly similar process in where a galleon ship might be made that is too large to insert through the neck. For this, the ship is made (outside the bottle) in sections and the smaller sections are then inserted through the neck and assembled on the interior of the vessel. You would be pretty hard pressed to find anyone who builds the entire ship inside the bottle but I wish you luck on your search. Thanks for tuning in to the show.
