Fun fact. A silver quarter in 1970 bought a gallon of gasoline. That same quarter still can buy a gallon of gasoline which now costs over 4 dollars a gallon.
My brother who died glued his coins to a cardboard backing that had a brownish backing like you see on cheap book cases. We never found his collection except a few wheat pennies and nickels. If your from or close to Florida you may have found them. He was building a treasure chest for my nephew and niece.
Thank you for stating that you think these were stolen. That takes integrity. Other CRH sites that make great scores never say that though I've seen a few hem & haw like they think that but don't want to admit it. All of these scores can't be "grandpa's kids & grand kids didn't know what he had and just dumped them".
Why would someone who stole them just dump them at a bank and get face value when 90% pre 64 silvers might be worth $20+ or more? It’s not like there is an owners name on these things.
@@junulock Less chance of getting caught with stolen goods. Reputable coin shops are going to want some ID (depending on laws) to buy them. There will also be video of the attempted or actual sale. No owner's name on them but there is probably a police report of the theft. Banks much easier to unload because they're still in wrappers. When I've dumped rolled coins at a bank the most they do is run a magnet over it to make sure they're not getting stuck with washers.
I know what you mean! I found 1 silver dump at a local bank 3, 4 years ago and I kept thinking "it's not going to end". There was one rule of halves where 19 of the 20 coins were all 40%s. In 2 rolls, 1 had 14 40%s and 3 90%s Altogether, in six rolls I ended up finding 68 40%s, 11 90% Kennedys and 1 90% Benjamin
I can’t walk past the coin machine at the grocery without checking the coin return. Two days ago I found a 1964 dime. Yesterday it was a nickel from Belize. I’ve been through 3 boxes of halves with zero silver. I do find some nifc pieces that I’ve saved. Another hobby is burying foreign coins across the street in the park. I like to watch the coin shooters scratch their heads as they dig up these odd treasures.
Wow. I had no idea there was more than face value to these. My grandfather gave us silver dollars for As and 1/2 dollars for Bs. Somewhere I have a small money bag with about $85 worth of 1952-1965 coins.
I just went into my bank and asked if they had any half dollar rolls. They said, no, but we can order you some, that will be 500.00 you can pick them up on Monday. I tried to hand her 500.00 and she said not until they arrive.

What an incredible hunt bro! I have never had luck with black rolls, I've gone through hundreds of them kinds of boxes and maybe found only 10 silvers. I've gone through hundreds of the yellow boxes as well and have found over $35,000 worth of silver in a single year from the yellows! Congrats
@@ericdrisgula3879 the way it's worked out for me is black rolls absolutely suck, consistently finding nothing while the yellow rolls seem to be really good to me. It's probably just luck but to me it means the black rolls suck.

I bought a roll few months ago from a friend of a friend and was supposed to be mostly 90 percent Kennedys and Franklin's that their grandfather rolled in 70s and found several capped bust and some seated halfs. Of course I payed little more afterwards but cool to find pre civil war coins in a roll

I learned that con artist have many ways of fooling the best collotors and the only way to know what your getting is to get from the guy who has the brick and mortar store front with Coin Shop on the front because they are living on the sales of good coins. If you are a cheat in my town you are out on the street because we don’t play like that in my town.

A bank just gave face value. Any coin shop dealer would have given more. Just a bit of investigating would give anyone that knowledge. These silver dumps at banks seem to be people in a big hurry for cash that also want to avoid any scrutiny that could come from passing silver coins elsewhere these days. I had an uncle that once lived next to a coin dealer that ran a local coin shop. His home was broke into over & over. A creek bordered the coin dealer's property on the opposite side from my uncle. I remember in one robbery the thieve's spilled coins all down that creek in their getaway. My uncle helped his coin dealer neighbor next day in finding his coins in the creek.

yea i hauld out silver halfs sitting in the back the safe in the bank yrs ago.they were all 40%silver unc kennedys.They were glad to get rid of them another time i scored franklins. Some people hang onto them for yrs and for whatever reason they just change them in..i know other ways to score coins w out a metal detector.but i like the thrill of the hunt too.Good luck you guys!
Makes me think about a collection that got lost. Guy's dad had collected silver coins his whole life. The guy's sister got ahold of it, probably all in 5 gallon buckets, all to pay for her drug habit. She probably dumped them in a coinstar. Probably made a few lucky boxes like this.

Really? You had no reason to be so nasty. And no, some banks not only won't do it for you, (many don't carry 50 cent nor dollar rolls) many charge a percentage when you bring coins in. Welcome to the new world...
I once bought some food at a Chinese takeaway; the clerk owed me $1.50 in change. The register was out of $1 bills so a clerk broke open a roll of dimes from the bank and gave me fifteen dimes. A majority of the dimes he gave me were silver from the 1940's and 50's.
I was working at Six Flags Great Adventure in 1983 and a lady was paying for food with solid silver dollars..I only had 5 dollars on me to exchange for them..I still regret not having more cash..My father collects money and he still has those silver dollars.

@@joshuabrown7034 You can go to your bank and ask for a box. Sometimes they will have one. If not, they might order one for you but a lot of banks don't want to deal with them. If you do get one never return the coins to the bank you get them from.

I got a 1964 and a 1944 quarter. You can tell a pre 64 by looking at the side. If it's all silver colored. It's definitely a pre 64. 90 percent silver. I also got two 1919 pennies. Probably not worth anything. But I appreciate them greatly.
Been doing this about 8 years ; found around 30 proofs, a roll of Franklins (we call 'em Franklins) some Liberties and numerous rolls - of silver altogether over that time. Of the Kennedys ,the silver is mostly 40% . Included in my searching was a neat BU two headed '64's both sides - ; a nice Kennedy head, tails British Penny coin ; clipped plantchet and one '74 doubled die. This all I can think of now. With Covid the banks are slim pickin's. Don't like to order the boxes though, never much luck like you. Went through many #500 boxes with no results. But like lighting, you just never know. About returns- this can be a problem. I pick one bank where I have an account and drop them off. Don't ask for any, other wise you'll be looking at your own stash again. Bummer! Around here (Detroit area) you have to have an account, sometimes even to take them off their hands which most banks are only too happy to get rid of.

My experience is exactly opposite. Yellow rolls bad. Black rolls good.

Just bought a box of pennies, gonna give it a go and try to start getting into coin hunting more.
The paper stuck on is most likely from coins caught in a flood that were in holders, envelopes or books, and the tarnish could be partly due to same.

Makes me think about a collection that got lost. Guy's dad had collected silver coins his whole life. The guy's sister got ahold of it, probably all in 5 gallon buckets, all to pay for her drug habit. She probably dumped them in a coinstar. Probably made a few lucky boxes like this.

Really? You had no reason to be so nasty. And no, some banks not only won't do it for you, (many don't carry 50 cent nor dollar rolls) many charge a percentage when you bring coins in. Welcome to the new world...

I once bought some food at a Chinese takeaway; the clerk owed me $1.50 in change. The register was out of $1 bills so a clerk broke open a roll of dimes from the bank and gave me fifteen dimes. A majority of the dimes he gave me were silver from the 1940's and 50's.

I was working at Six Flags Great Adventure in 1983 and a lady was paying for food with solid silver dollars..I only had 5 dollars on me to exchange for them..I still regret not having more cash..My father collects money and he still has those silver dollars.

One box had 76 silvers by itself. One roll had 7 halves in it. Within that roll I found my first barber half. It also had the other main 3 types of halves. I'll never find that again. Huge dump
I had $400.00 worth of 50 cent pieces, had at least 6-64 or under and several 65,66,67s. Than house got robbed 2x in 4 months and they stole my guns, silver, gold and meds.. I HATE THIEVES!!

@@joshuabrown7034 You can go to your bank and ask for a box. Sometimes they will have one. If not, they might order one for you but a lot of banks don't want to deal with them. If you do get one never return the coins to the bank you get them from.

I think that they ate called Franklin's.
I got a 1964 and a 1944 quarter. You can tell a pre 64 by looking at the side. If it's all silver colored. It's definitely a pre 64. 90 percent silver.
I also got two 1919 pennies. Probably not worth anything. But I appreciate them greatly.

Been doing this about 8 years ; found around 30 proofs, a roll of Franklins (we call 'em Franklins) some Liberties and numerous rolls - of silver altogether over that time. Of the Kennedys ,the silver is mostly 40% . Included in my searching was a neat BU two headed '64's both sides - ; a nice Kennedy head, tails British Penny coin ; clipped plantchet and one '74 doubled die. This all I can think of now. With Covid the banks are slim pickin's. Don't like to order the boxes though, never much luck like you. Went through many #500 boxes with no results. But like lighting, you just never know. About returns- this can be a problem. I pick one bank where I have an account and drop them off. Don't ask for any, other wise you'll be looking at your own stash again. Bummer! Around here (Detroit area) you have to have an account, sometimes even to take them off their hands which most banks are only too happy to get rid of.
Oh , forgot I completed a Kennedy set just fom circulation. Will try to find all the proofs next.
Also forgot many gold plated.
So what was the profit in this 40 minute investment of time?
Probably 300 dollars maybe 275 reason being that its silver and no matter what they are always worth around ten bucks up
