TRANQUIL CORNWALL WALK - Helford and Frenchmans creek

  • We follow a guided walk from the beautiful Helford village across fields to Frenchman's Creek, to return along the banks of the River Helford. Spectacular views of a flooding creek with the peace and tranquility of the Cornish Coutryside. Helford is on the Lizard Peninsula near Helston.
    Frenchamn's Creek is the name of a Daphne du Maurier book, a romance between a french pirate and an English lady!
    This walk was filmed in August, Cornwall' busiest holiday season and we found this a very tranquil walk with hardly any one else around.

    Not bad £4.10 for all day, I can live with that. Loved the white cottages, so traditional and British and looked like rodadendrums still out. I like Cornishman Creek the best not so such about the swathbuckerling French pirate mind 😱. Prefect view over the Creek and a couple of ciders to boot, what a great day out. A definite 10 from me, cheers Alan

    My lifelong dream to go to Cornwall has been thwarted by COVID-19, and by the time travel is once again possible...well, I may be to old to go and explore properly, so I decided to try to find a virtual walking option. I’m truly enjoying these short videos, and I’m ‘out-lifted’ away from my living room into the living Cornwall. Thank you! Well done!

    Hi, nice video. Frenchman’s creek is one of my favourite spots. I love camping there. Thought you might find it fun to know, if you weren’t already aware, that Kylie Minogue frolicked on the same tree that you climbed on to get the nice shot. It was in one of her music videos!

    Really beautiful walk - such a peaceful and tranquil part of Cornwall, looked like the perfect day. You possibly know that the element Titanium was discovered in Manaccan by the local vicar William Gregor in 1791 - the ore he found was called manaccanite.

    • @CornishWalkingTrails
      @CornishWalkingTrails  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow- That's really interesting! What would we do today without titanium! All I know about Manaccan is that there is a really old fig tree in the churchyard, and that Andrew lost at cricket! We haven't visited for many years, Sarah :)

    What a beautifully shot video, you can certainly see all the time and effort you must spend to get it just right, love all the jokes and silly stuff as well, just so funny!!! Only been to Helford once and it was really rainy but still very pretty, must go back on a sunny day, a cider in that pub sounds perfect at the end of a lovely walk, just what we do sometimes as well. I've never read Frenchman's Creek but really want to read it now. thanks Bets

      Well worth a read - very reminiscent of a bygone era! I picked up an old copy in a second hand book store, so no modern edits! We take a lot of time to shoot the video - about 4 hours. I think its worth making the best video we can as it will be on TH-cam for a long time!! Sarah :)

      Well it certainly shows, all your videos are really entertaining and very well edited, really impressive. You should get an award from the Cornwall Tourist Board for promoting it so well. Will be looking out for an old copy of the book as I would prefer to read one without modern edits as well. Thanks Bets

    Hi Sarah & Andrew, what an absolutely fabulous walk and video. Andrew's happy cows! Think he needs to work on his swashbuckling (along with his pole-dancing!). Curious as to what he was doing under the old ship - was he after the propeller to take to the scrappie? The cottages are so quaint and the entire area looks so peaceful and idyllic, and the view from the Shipwright's Arms is stunning. We will definitely have to include this in our plans for next year. Have a good weekend.

      Hi Diana, I thought the cottage names were so unusual and interesting! Andrew was actually filming the following shot, so I had to include in the edit ;) The pub looked stunning. We were there at 3 in the afternoon and people were still ordering food that looked and smelt amazing! Sarah :)

    Just another comment that may or may not interest you and Andrew. In 1957, my mother and her cousin, visiting from New Zealand, tipped out of a dinghy while disembarking from a yacht in Port Navas Creek. This was off the Helford River almost opposite where your lovely video of Frenchman's Creek was taken. My mother's movie camera is still there in the creek somewhere!

    • @CornishWalkingTrails
      @CornishWalkingTrails  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What a fantastic tale! We walked there earlier this year - more deteriorating boats but none as characterful as the one in Frenchman's Creek, and certainly no cameras! We filmed it and intend saving it in case the weather is too inclement to film in Jan/Feb - a drop of Cornish Sunshine during winter - although you will be in summer!?! Sarah ;)

    Loved intrepid Andrew giving us such a great perspective on Frenchman's Creek. I don't think though that the cows were happy to see him. It looked to me like they were laughing at the fact he doesn't have a tail.

    I always love your videos but this one made my day. I have been meaning to ask you to visit Kestle Barton. We stayed there last year and loved it. We were there in the fall and it is nice to see it in summer. Thanks so much for this trip down memory lane. I loved the sound effects for Andrew's joke. Too funny. I had no idea he was taking such risks to get these great shots for us, thanks Andrew! I have two questions--what are the tallest trees you can see when you were enjoying your drink at the Shipwrights Arms and what were the gorgeous flowers at 8:20?

    • @CornishWalkingTrails
      @CornishWalkingTrails  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Lori, At 8:20, that would be a Buddliea or 'Butterfly bush'. They grow very easily in our climate, attracting lots and lots of butterflies! Limited colour palette, mainly mauves and pinks. The tall trees are a kind of pine tree, not sure which variety! Kestle Barton looks lovely, if completely different from the first time we walked here. it was still a working farm, with lots of cow poo in the yard - the children did not like it! Sarah :)
