I point this out cause the melody is all over the place & he nails it! Very very hard to do.
He got mad because the mic they gave him wasn't working and he had to work it out and this was a huge live presentation for a an award show... I do remember that.
The show MUST GO ON even if it means singing if from a podium on the side of the stage. Usher showed us how a professional handles equipment failure. He went out there and killed it.

I'll even take it one further as a pro audio engineer..... If you don't have the mic you sound checked with and are expecting to use....you won't hear yourself in the monitors.... so he was totally singing "blind" so to speak because the mic he was using wasn't dialed in for him.
That was amazing, his voice was perfect after such a nightmare of not having a mic. Channel that negative energy right on out, Usher- didn't even slow u down... artists today only use mics as props- not all, but too many

nah, Usher wasn't mad during this performance. i used to record all of his performances during the "My Way" era, this was the type of energy he was giving when he was on stage. he was totally focused.
It's very obvious he was upset look at how he's walking out to the stage and he's upset because he was supposed to have a wireless mic and he had to walk over to the podium to sing half of the first verse.
Omg I remember watching this performance live on tv as a child and I said the same thing “he looks upset”. Technical difficulties and all he did his thing and killed this performance ❤
