    I’ve never heard of anyone having an endoscopic examination without sedation. It was easy breezy, no pain, no problem. 😉

    Hi, hope you are doing well with Hiatus hernia. I have Hiatus hernia too.
    What is your experience with Omeprazole? As Omeprazole reduce stomach acid, does that create other problems such as indigestion? Thoughts on operation?

    I have been having alot of the symptoms you describe for about 6 months now. Had my endoscopy today with sedation and I don't even really remember it. I remember the surgeon saying "Ok I'm going in" and then that's all. Luckily I do not have a hiatal hernia, nor an ulcer. I had inflammation in my stomach. The next thing to get an ultrasound of my pancreas and gallbladder.

    No one ever talks about ab workouts! So thank you for mentioning it. I’ve been wondering if that’s from my hernia or if I have something else too. I was in bad bloated / inflamed pain for MONTHS after an ab workout after getting back to the gym. It’s extremely depressing.

    I was misdiagnosed with angina. I was under the cardiology department and had a CT scan to assess my heart and luckily was found to have no heart issues or blockages etc... but he did casually say that they did see a small hiatal hernia. I presented with shortness of breath, tightness in the chest, nausea, pain in the stomach, tingling down the left arm, sweating and a few trips to the ER beforehand. I still have these issues but have excessive burping (which I thought were a side effect of the beta-blockers I was put on) this is something I have never had before. I didn't know all of the digestive issues were associated with this. As years ago I developed issues with my throat. I sang in a choir and found (and to this day) I couldn't reach notes, I would begin to cough, my voice had no strength and was scratchy. I was told I had a nodule at first then had the camera down a second time to reveal LPR silent reflux, postnasal drip and sinusitis. I have had congestion most of my adult life. My mother was diagnosed with the same condition in her 50's like me so is there an hereditary component to this?

      I had really bad pain until I had surgery so much better now all I would say is prepare for after as you'll probably be on liquid /soft food diet so like baby food. It's a long process try not to rush eating solids it will hurt. Do lots of research before you decide if it's right for you. I did loads before and spoke on lots of forum sites to people who had it done. Good luck

    I suffer with a small Hiatal Hernia. My symptoms are GERD, chest pain/pressure, stomach pains, sometimes nausea, hoarseness, headaches/migraines, trouble swallowing, shortness of breath/breathlessness, fatigue/brain fog, excessive burping/flatulence, head pressure, neck pain/stiffness, dizziness, clogged ears sensation, tinnitus/swooshing sounds, dry cough/ urge to cough, heart palpitations and lastly ANXIETY/ PANIC ATTACKS out of nowhere! The doctors I seen just put me on meds: pantoprazole then omeprazole two times a day. Omeprazole has helped some with the acid reflux since I just started on it instead of pantoprazole, but im still having shortness of breath and trouble swallowing 😅 all the symptoms I listed happen when I’m having a bad, bad flare up. It’s so frustrating and miserable to deal with. Yes! I think I know what you mean how it affects the vocal cords because I used to be able to sing longer notes but due to the shortness of breath I can’t no more like I could before all of this! I only hope for something to give me relief from it all🙏🏼

    I had gastroscopy done and samples for lab were also taken. Only founding was a hiatal hernia. I've had mild GERD symptoms for years but I never even realized. I had annoying heart palpitations, despite nothing wrong with heart, mild chest/stomach pains, constant mild lump in throat feeling, etc. Probably teeth decay too! How can it be that I never realized... Pantoprazole fixes it all.

    Don't get disappointed I had it from last eight years and still have it but I manage from my food habbits and use Psyllium husk one spoon dissolved in a cup of water at night and drink in morning in empty stomach with one more glass of water. After 45minutes I take my breakfast . It really help try it. Intermittent fasting always help. Do this too. And never eat more or spicy or oily food daily. In parties you can but daily it creat problem. Even if you have problem use antacis as Omeprazole. All work. I do all my work . Using antacid may decrease iron absorption that may lead to iron deficiency anemia. So try to change your life style . Don't use antacid frequently.

    Hiatus hernia is where your stomach pushes through your diaphragm which keeps it open to allow the acid to come up. The diaphragms job is to open and shut when you eat it contracst when food passes through it. I had 4cm (I think I'm sure it wasnt inches but cant remember doctors just said it was really big) that came up from my stomach. It's no fun and the hospital came my best friend I would end up there at least every couple of months with the pain. I'm all sorted now thank goodness. Took 12 years for them to agree to operate as they don't like doing as its a big operation and can be dangerous as so close to so many organs. Omeprozole is great for acid reflux but me personally i think it's just a temporary measure depending on the size of the hernia. Hope you feel better soon and get it sorted t c.

    So for over a year now I have really bad chest pains feels like someone is standing on my chest most of the time all day everyday and I have acid reflux. It gets worse w certain foods, alcohol and pills. Also have the burning in my upper stomach. When I’m lying down I get relief from putting my body in certain positions. The past couple days it got really bad and I feel very intense pressure in my upper stomach and it’s connected to my chest it feels like I’m sucking in my stomach really tight but I’m not it just feels like it and it’s really uncomfortable kinda feels like there’s a squeezing in my upper stomach. Does anyone else feel the same??

    • @McWeenyKen
      @McWeenyKen ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is 100% how I feel right now and most of the time. It's like the pressure of massively over eating except it's semi permanent. It makes it impossible to breath deeply too. Massaging my stomach downwards can sometimes eventually give relief which can last for awhile by getting some of the pressure off my diaphragm. I also take PPIs. I feel losing a bit of weight could help too.

    • @Janetgreen64
      @Janetgreen64 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes …. I have an 8 or 10 cm hiatus hernia. I say 8 or 10 because it depends on who is measuring the hernia. Its difficult to get an exact measure apparently. My ferritin levels a few year ago were dangerously low and I was told I must have internal bleeding or a particular bowel cancer. I had a colonoscopy and an endoscopy but no reason was apparent for the cause of the anemia (low ferritin anemia). Ferrous sulphate raised my levels and over the past few years its been low but reasonable. My ferritin levels have sunk again so I am having another endoscopy to see if they can find a cause. I am overdue an endoscopy check anyway because I have Barrett's esophagus so I guess its a good time to get checked. I actually believe my ferritin levels dip because of the oesophagitis etc caused by the large hernia. I am on pantoprazole 80mg a day but i tend to take 40mg because I am concerned about osteoporosis and 80mg is an insane level. I manage on 40mg due to lifestyle changes but have the option of taking more if I think I need it for the acid reflux but 40 works reasonably well. Ive not heard of antral gastritis but it wouldnt surprise me if I have that too I just tend to group all my symptoms under a large hiatus hernia because as far as I am concerned thats causing all the other issues I have.

    On April 14 2022, I got an esophageal motility and 24 HR impedance test. It stated I do NOT have a Hiatal hernia.
