FYI, turning on openvr mirror mode is not 'zero cost'. Actually it impacts a lot to the performance and frame rates. So unless you record or stream, it's not recommended to use openvr mirror mode.
Maybe that’s why it’s been so unstable for me it runs great for a while and at random can start jittering every few seconds or completely break and be super jittery and like 12fps that especially happens when I discover a city
@@CousinExplorers No, open vr is basically described as anything other than oculus if the app you are using doesn't have a specified option for what headset you are using, most VR games/apps are optimized for oculus and don't specify other headsets, the option to select which headset you are using basically just optimizes the game for your headset (different headsets have different ppi, resolution, controls, etc) so by setting it to openvr it will set the settings to a default profile based on what the developers choose to set it to.
This will not go in to vr inside the truck for me. I followed your exact instructions. I can be in vr on a flat screen but it will not put me in the truck

hi, if you mean in reference to the theatre mode, they moved it to steamvr settings. when you open steamvr, you should be able to go into settings > dashboard > and find 'present Non-VR Applications on Theater Screen Upon Launch', and then be able to turn it on/off.
What happens in the headset? I bet, not fully sure, but I bet you dont have the window clicked on your computer. Try making sure the game is the last window you clicked on before putting on the headset!

Hello, Just asking what i should do when my game doesn't even show up on my laptop and oculus, it just comes up with black screen but I can hear game volume
Try the windows search for ATS, and I think sometimes the configuration file is still in documents of the C drive regardless of install location? I’m not surre :/
Can you still use a steering wheel/pedals/shifter set up for controls while using a VR headset? Thinking about getting VR mostly for this game, but not if I can't use the steering wheel. Also for other games I would rather sit with a VR headset and normal controller then stand and do full motion. Limited space to work with.
So when I get it running in VR it is extremly low quality and a very bad frame reate. Also, the only time I can see it in my headset is in drive mode. If I open a menu I don't see the menu unless I look at my pc
What are your pc specs? I haven’t tried it on the 1.40 update yet. But it runs great for me. Might need to adjust some settings in the files for better performance:/
@@AnthokGaming according to Gforce experience and steam it is lol. Anyway, I've played other VR games without issue. Subnautica, phasmaphobia, propagation, a few others.
This doesn't seem to work currently through air link on my quest 2. It still launched in a tile desktop view. despite changing the settings as instructed. The game loads up in it's vr version which i can tell because the menu changes but it does not take me into true vr
Odd. I use virtual desktop and it’s works great, never tried air link with anything. Does airlink work with steam titles? I assumed it does, but perhaps there is a slight issue with that and it not being officially a steam Vr game. Try virtual desktop if you can! :)
Make sure in the steam VR settings (While in VR) you aren't rendering at an increased percentage. (It'll say render scale or something, set it to 85% or 90% to increase performance). Also make sure you turn off the supersampling within the file. (I think I show that in this video). General reduction In graphics quality helps with frames too. :)
Hey man awesome vid! Just one quick question, under my config file I do not see the mirror mode nor the openvr line. Can I add these in some way or? Also another question what do you have your r_manual_stereo_buffer_scale on. Some say 1.5 is best but default is 1
I would play around with the buffer scale and test what works best for your system. Go in increments to see how it affects performance. As far as the mirror options, I would boot it up in VR first, then check the file again. Also, make sure you have the VR beta version installed first. Let me know if that helps!
@Anthok Is there any way to adjust the route advisor in the middle of your screen? Its really annoying and bulky sitting right in front of me. As of now i can only turn it off completly.
This tutorial is great and its the only way i got my oculus to visualize this game but there's this problem where my config doesn't let me edit the code, do i have to download a different document viewer? or something else, i dont know, Thanks.
Any way we could get an update for 1.40? There's no longer an option for OculusVive :( Granted I still was able to make it work, but my screen itself on the monitor was black and frozen (which isn't a big deal unless I want to stream it).
hello all. i want to get into vr . first im looking at the Quest 2 headset. do i need the usb cable ?? and should i go with the 64gb or the 256gb? is that only for saved games on the headset? as i dont plan on saving games on the headset. as i want the vr for iracing, ats, ets and some other racing games. sorry for the long question but i have never used vr.
I totally understand! So many people haven't used VR yet and I can help with any questions! I would highly Highly recommend the quest 2! the 64 vs 256 is just for internal storage nothing better about processing in one over the other. As far as playing PCVR with the quest 2 you can use a usb3 type C cable to plug into a powerful gaming computer, or use a $20 app called virtual desktop to play games wirelessly, but still using the power of the PC. I use the latter and its amazing. Not having a cable is so nice! Please let me know if you have other questions! :)
What are you having trouble with? You need to download oculus, then plug in your headset or use virtual desktop. That requires a virtual desktop client download.
Someone help me, I changed launch options I did everything you said but my game still launches on the monitor. someone help, I’ve been trying for 4 hours.
Try using the open vr mode instead. Launch steam vr and be “in steam vr home” then on the computer launch ATS. It’ll pop up and say it doesn’t support it but just say ok and it does.
Hi, man. Really good video it worked very well for me but i just have one tiny problem. It looks double on my pc screen, like two screen divided and idk why, it looks fine on the oculus but double on the screen. Know why?
great video, very helpful. I just have a problem, that is the mirror mode config doesn't show up for me. there's things that mention mirroring just not the one to get the vr mode. any ideas how to get that fixed or to show up?
Hmm 🤔 I think just setting “launch options” to not have “-openvr”, and not selecting the be beta version. then it works fine for truckers MP and flat screen.
Is it normal for the graphics to be a lot worse in vr? Getting some serious flickering and the textures seem blurry (cant read a sign until i drive closer). Im on a gtx 3070, tried googling to see if people have certain optimised settings but seems not?
You may need to reduce the antialiasing, upscaling, and asw or similar within the settings/files. There are some conflicting settings within this as it’s not optimized by the developer for Vr.
I followed all steps but when I launch the game it doesn’t view in the headset, only on the monitor. The beta that I selected is oculus-oculus+openvr-1.40-(SDK1.4.0) and I am on rift s

Hello, I recently got the quest two, and I tried to play vr got everything to work except for the game actually being playable, when the game launches for some reason the steam achievement progress tab will pop up and glitch uncontrolably, and the nvidia overlay appears but never goes away, and glitches and lags the game very hard. A good video. :) One thing that grabbed my interrest... When you were describing the launch options you mentioned that Virtual Desktop used the -openvr setting. Does this mean you've managed to play ATS on the Quest 2 through Virtual Desktop? I've tried getting ETS2 to do that for weeks with no success.
I sure have! Make sure it’s running through the oculus/vive beta. Launch steam VR using virtual desktop, then open Truck sim. It should give a prompt “this game doesn’t work with steam VR or something” and just click ok. It should work!! Let me know if you need further help, I can make a more detailed video if needed!
I got it working! ^_^ I've been trying to get it working with VD for two months now without success, the only game I've had problems with. Turns out changing from -oculus to -openvr did the trick. Thank you ever do much! :D
Help! when playing ATS or ETS on HP Reverb G2 with 3080 we have a strange like ghosting effect when turning the truck or if you look left or right at high speeds. Anyone else see this or have a solution? have been searching for weeks, changed all kinds of settings, nothing seems to affect this. we have the steam versions of the games. any suggestions or help would be appreciated at this point!
You’ll need a headset that works with steam VR. There are mods and workarounds for the Samsung gear VR but it is not a great experience. I recommend getting a used CV1 or rift S to save money, otherwise quest 2 is the best VR for the money currently. To play truck sim though you’ll need a powerful gaming PC.
Hey man just wondering but do you think I’d be able to play in VR with a 2060 and a 10700f if so what VR Headset would you recommend?? Hope you see this lol
Is the 1060 6gb or 3gb? If its 6gb youll be able to play a lot of games, but it wont be the best. 3gb wont work at all really. I would recommend the quest 2 for anyone as it can be standalone or used with PC wired or Wireless. I Love the quest 2 and its only $300! Highly recommend! :)
@@AnthokGaming the 2060 is 6gb and I’m looking basically mainly to play American truck sim on it do you think it would be playable the gane runs pretty good for my standards on the tv but just wondering how much the performance changes when in vr

I just can’t understand why they don’t officially support it. I don’t play these or recommend them to people cause they don’t 100% support VR. I’d love to play it and spend money in game. I have a high end motion racing simulator so…..wtf?

I can’t find the “use desktop game feature while steam vr is active” I’m at the same spot you are but it’s updated and they moved stuff around🥲🥲🥲
So when I look through the vr all I see a big screen it’s not like being in the truck
@@AnthokGaming my specs are:
Intel i59300H
GTX 1650(4gb)
16gb DDR4
Its nothing fancy but most games run well.
Do you play other Vr games? The 1650 isn’t really a vr ready gpu. Sounds like that may be your issue
@@AnthokGaming according to Gforce experience and steam it is lol. Anyway, I've played other VR games without issue. Subnautica, phasmaphobia, propagation, a few others.
Minimum for most current version games is 6 if not 8gb of video ram. This is a pretty intensive game!
Hello i really would like this game for my Oculus quest 2 i was wondering can i still use this to upload it to my VR?
This doesn't seem to work currently through air link on my quest 2. It still launched in a tile desktop view. despite changing the settings as instructed. The game loads up in it's vr version which i can tell because the menu changes but it does not take me into true vr
Odd. I use virtual desktop and it’s works great, never tried air link with anything. Does airlink work with steam titles? I assumed it does, but perhaps there is a slight issue with that and it not being officially a steam Vr game. Try virtual desktop if you can! :)
i just figured out how to play ats in vr tysm. but i have a problem, it's very buggy/laggy. any idea on how to fix or at least improve it?
Make sure in the steam VR settings (While in VR) you aren't rendering at an increased percentage. (It'll say render scale or something, set it to 85% or 90% to increase performance). Also make sure you turn off the supersampling within the file. (I think I show that in this video). General reduction In graphics quality helps with frames too. :)
Your the best man now i feel like a real trucker
Nice!!!
Hey Anthony, any chance you can do a tutorial on how to get the chat in ATS VR?
Like my twitch chat? I use ovr toolkit! I could make a tutorial for that :)
@Anthok
Is there any way to adjust the route advisor in the middle of your screen? Its really annoying and bulky sitting right in front of me. As of now i can only turn it off completly.
I never found a way, but I did just turn it off and use a truck with nav built in the dash.
This tutorial is great and its the only way i got my oculus to visualize this game but there's this problem where my config doesn't let me edit the code, do i have to download a different document viewer? or something else, i dont know, Thanks.
Should just be through notepad!
Thanks man! got it to work, have a good day or night.
An awesome tutorial!!
for some reason im really "tall" in game and the ui is all the way down how do i fix that?
There is a hot key to recenter the view. I believe default is f12
Can you show us how to setup the oculus to actually work on your pc?
What are you having trouble with? You need to download oculus, then plug in your headset or use virtual desktop. That requires a virtual desktop client download.
@@AnthokGaming Can you show me how to connect a virtual desktop to it?
Someone help me, I changed launch options I did everything you said but my game still launches on the monitor. someone help, I’ve been trying for 4 hours.
Did you launch it from within the headset?
@@AnthokGaming yes I tried launching in and out of the headset, in the headset it just opens it on a big screen and it also launches on the monitor

Did you figure this out? You may need to set output ina few places to “headset”
I'm having trouble. I've downloaded the sdk, set my thing for oculus (since I have a quest 2) and nothings working.
Try using the open vr mode instead. Launch steam vr and be “in steam vr home” then on the computer launch ATS. It’ll pop up and say it doesn’t support it but just say ok and it does.
@@AnthokGaming I tried open vr mode, and it worked. After 3 hours, and it's working perfectly
Yooooo!!! Nice! 😀
Hi, man. Really good video it worked very well for me but i just have one tiny problem. It looks double on my pc screen, like two screen divided and idk why, it looks fine on the oculus but double on the screen. Know why?
Yeah! It’s rendering each eye for the headset! :)

Your the man dude thanks
great video, very helpful. I just have a problem, that is the mirror mode config doesn't show up for me. there's things that mention mirroring just not the one to get the vr mode. any ideas how to get that fixed or to show up?
It may show up after you do all the other steps. It likely isn’t there before you select and install the beta vr branch
@@AnthokGaming i should have mentioned it doesnt show up after the instal of the vr beta. i also have everything else set up the way you mention.
Do you have to make changes when going back to displaying on the screen for gaming?
Hmm 🤔 I think just setting “launch options” to not have “-openvr”, and not selecting the be beta version. then it works fine for truckers MP and flat screen.
@@AnthokGaming Thanks
How to run ats/ets2 on vr without steam? I want to play ats on pc and streaming vr ats to vr for mobile
Do you have ATS on a platform other than steam? It’s a pc only game, it’s not playable on quest standalone if that’s what you’re asking.
I can't get it to work I am using Virtual desktop on quest 2
Are you using -openvr or -oculus for the launch settings? I think using VD it needs to be openvr for launch settings.
@@AnthokGaming do you need to install oculus software
Yes, having the oculus software on your computer is needed for any oculus hardware to work. Even with steam VR games
@@AnthokGaming and do you need steam VR I am kinda new at this

On steam, you gotta right click the game.
Hi, is there a way to change the mirrored view from both eyes to one eye .thank you
Unfortunately there is not, I just zoom in on one eye for streaming and recording. It’s not the best, but it works!
@@AnthokGaming how to zoom in on one eye?
In the recording software I use I just crop it to the one eye.
@@AnthokGaming thanks for the fast response sir but I’m not trying to record but just have family members in my background see me driving any advice?
I’d still get a recording software (obs) and pull in the screen as an input that you can zoom on. Then you can display the view larger.
I first tried it on air link and it was bad, and then i tried it on wired today and it still did the same thing.
Hmmm what gpu do you have? I’ve never heard of this issue, have you tried a fresh install?
@@AnthokGaming Hi i have a 2060 super and an i5 9400f imwith 16gb, i dont think its hard ware related because any overlay on the game will glitch out, If its possible I can show you what it does
If you go to Anthok.net there is a discord link that might be the easiest way to share. I agree it doesn’t sound like a hard ware issue
@@AnthokGaming Okay thank you, I will post a question in community-questions
Do you plan on making another video covering your in-game VR settings?
I could do that, although I don’t think I changed too much. What specifically were you looking to change/make better?
@@AnthokGaming Specifically any changes you may have made to the config file. I was having a lot of problems with my rig using an AMD 3600 and a 2070. Uninstalling the game, deleting the main folder and doc folder, and then a fresh install for the VR beta helped immensely.
@@jdanger9581 i think i only turned off the reprojection used by the game and I just use steam reprojection. I didn’t change anything else. Oh, also super sampling to 1.2 or so. Makes it look a little more crisp.

A good video. :)
One thing that grabbed my interrest...
I've been trying to get it working with VD for two months now without success, the only game I've had problems with. Turns out changing from -oculus to -openvr did the trick. Thank you ever do much! :D

Which vr can I use in this game .. I have samsung vr did it work
You’ll need a headset that works with steam VR. There are mods and workarounds for the Samsung gear VR but it is not a great experience. I recommend getting a used CV1 or rift S to save money, otherwise quest 2 is the best VR for the money currently. To play truck sim though you’ll need a powerful gaming PC.
Does this work on truckermp
It does not, I switch back and forth if I am using MP.
VR takes a ton more graphics power. You should be able to run quite a bit on low settings!

Unfortunately, I don't have an option for "Oculus 1.39".
The closest I have is "Temporary_1_39 - 1.39.x for incompatible mods", which is 3rd from the bottom of a list that has 18 options.
Has got me absolutely stumped.
Even directly added the game to the Oculus library and tried launching through Oculus.
It still displayed on the desktop only.
After all the various iterations (restarted Steam between each failed attempt and setup change) I decided to give up and opted out of the beta so I could still play MP.
