    5 years later and this video is still saving lives. I'm a first-year grad student taking inorganic for the second time going back to my senior year of undergrad, and this is by far the most easily followable, clear explanation regarding both the chemical theory and math behind character tables I've ever seen, especially when the current prof can't organize the class or explain topics for shit. My friend, you are doing a service to students of all levels with these guides!!

    Hello sir, what if quadratic function is present only in A1 and absent in B1? Will it be still Raman active? Or just one of the term has to have quadratic function?
    Thank you for the video.

    • @AllBoutChemistry
      @AllBoutChemistry  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It should be present in any of them A1 or B1. In the case taken in this video luckily we got quadratic function in both of them. Bt if it would have been absent in B1 but present in A1 then also it would be Raman Active.

    Is the value for the contribution of character per unshifted atom same for all the character tables(various point groups) in case of identity,inversion and reflection? or does it depend on the total number of atoms in the molecule?

    • @AllBoutChemistry
