I can't say that I've even used them yet. I have a 5.11 PUSH pack and I love it...just waiting for their new bail out bag to come back in stock, my PUSH Pack is too small now, and my Jumbo MaxP versipack is just a bit smaller. I have a thermite in the Khaki that I don't use either....I have a few pieces I don't think I will ever use....a couple waist packs are just sitting here too....
I have found that Maxpedition Proteus and Hazard 4 Plan B Evac is a good couple for nearly any short term outdoor-activity. I usually carry the Proteus in a Condor Rigger's Belt among other essentials such as multitool and/or knife and not by it's own strap. Though if one wants to wear them both in backside, you better not be too short or they might tangle against each other rather annoyingly, though you can adjust them of course. I'm 186 cm, make out of that what you will.
I'm not too sure, Kennedy, but I'm going to guess not. It's a decent size for being a small bag however the top zip is limited and doesn't open very wide to get something full sized in there.
lol Your enthusiasm makes me wanna spend $50 for an overnight bag! Maxpedition owes you commission, cuz I GUARANTEE I'm not the only one to whom you sold this bag. I prefer the molle recon even though the proteus seems a lot more "Inspector Gadgety" just cuz of the price and size, but that's one awesome bag.
Have you seen the 'snugpak response' ? looks exactly the same but might be slightly poorer quality than yours. What I don't like is when you make the top handle strap longer it goes 'off centre'
@20GATE91 I'm afraid to see the Sabercat in person. I'll want it!! The Proteus really is on the smaller side. I think the Sabercat has significantly more storage capacity. I wonder though if the SC will carry well as an EDC bag or if its too large? If I ever get one you will be sure I'll line them up and compare. Lemme know what you get!
If she uses the waist strap she can slide a mini rolly poly thru it. Perfect size for a liter bottle. I don't use the waist strap and pretty much have no option for water carry with the Proteus.
Awesome review. I plan on using the proteus, janus, rolly polly and FR1 as a bush craft/ultra light 3 day hiking kit. I am trying to slim down on gear and increase skill sets. Looking forward to this new project.
Roz, or anybody, I have the Condor II. I'm considering a Proteus to use as a butt pack by strapping it onto the bottom of the back pack with the straps or maybe some MALICE clips. But I'm worried the Proteus isn't wide enough that the MOLLE on it can be used to mate it to the backpack. How wide is the MOLLE field on the back of the Proteus? It'd be so sweet if it would work, I could put all my dorky admin type stuff in the little Proteus and then unstrap it on the weekends!
@RoscoeBa I know what you mean! i like the sabercat but it looks too big for EDC Bag but i like the Proteus cause its small but won't fufill my needs but i'll let you know as soon i make my choice! :D
@abusedbunny I've not seen the Noatak but I'd guess that you can wear both, as well as the Malaga/Lunada/Remora family. I tried the Proteus with the Sitka and Sitka rode too low on my back to wear both. I'm 5'8 so maybe a taller dude could pull it off. The Falcon II bottom rested on top of the Proteus so that's a possibility too. Hope this helped!
great review. im torn between the proteus and the sabercat for bushcraft and ultrlight hiking purposes. i want to believe i can make it fit in the proteus if i get the janus extension. its rough notnbeing able to manually inspect both options.nnice work on the review!
@bewaretheintertubes Wow, I can't believe I never thought to wear it like that!! However, I cut the waist straps off of it a long time ago and used web dominators to attach a strap that I wear cross-body. I was thinking of getting one in OD Green (my new color) so may be able to answer that Q for you in due time. ;)
I have a nice little knife-steel that would fit awsome into one of those pen holders. I'm sure they have a 100 uses. Great review, great pack, I want one.
Now your talkin'!! Cha-ching! lol I LOVE this Proteus! I swap my bags around often and the Proteus gets cycled in more than some others. My eye has been cast on the Sabercat because I found out its just a larger version of this bag.
@troy5690 That's a perfect place for it too. Love those little holders. Yeah, check out this other comment here. SnugPack makes a simliar design pack too.
I think you should be able to do that. You will need attachment straps like either TacTies, Blackhawk speed clips or Alice clips. Weave them in the right way and the pouch will stay on your pack nice and secure. No worries about your English. It is a thousand times better than my command of your native language! :)
Great review. Thanks a million. Do you think it would work to be shoulder slung like a gear slinger sometimes and used as a butt pack others? Would be nice for my bike commute/edc. Also @ppspsd, ....creepy dude.... Creepy.
***** I have always really liked my Proteus but think the Sabercat would be good for your purposes. It's very much larger. For example, the Proteus is too small to even carry water in addition to your stuff. Sabercat should be good.
@emailkenny Awesome! Hope you like it as much as I do. I actually cut the fanny pack straps off. :-o and use a strap to wear it over my shoulder. You g'head and just fanny pack it and stand proud, Kenny! lol
There nothing, I mean nothing, sexier than a chick thats into guns, gear, knifes!! Not to mention camo pants,REALLY ! Pleasing to the eyes, like the most beautiful sunset ! ;)

They make 90 degree PALS panels so you could attach the Janus. I cant think of who to order from off the top of my head but start at SKD tactical

I LOVE my Proteus. Top two fav bag! The foliage is really nice too.
Try weaving tac ties across the Janus, and then weave more through each PALs to connect them!
I said this before it's just like the snug pak response pak but I went to a local store looked at both of them and they r both nice
Have you seen the 'snugpak response' ? looks exactly the same but might be slightly poorer quality than yours. What I don't like is when you make the top handle strap longer it goes 'off centre'

@LLauranzonIII I don't have the Colossus but guys love them. Thx for the nice words, Lauran!

Not water "proof" but I believe they say it is repellant. The zipper is right across the top so I dont know how that would hold up in a downpour...

I don't know if i should get this or the Sabercat -_- hard choice.
@XCritonX Amen! That goes for everything doesn't it? Air Conditioners, cars, boots, etc. :-)
@mananachronism Indeed, exact same design. I've not seen a SnugPack in person but I love the Proteus so I'd probably love the RP too. Thx!
Great review and I really like that pack.. The janus extension is a nice addition....
@RoscoeBa I know what you mean! i like the sabercat but it looks too big for EDC Bag but i like the Proteus cause its small but won't fufill my needs but i'll let you know as soon i make my choice! :D
Well done ..... I enjoy mine and my generic version that has molle straps in stead of the belt
That's it, I'm ordering one. My Sabrecat isn't even here yet and I'm already ordering more!
Roz you rock!
@abusedbunny I've not seen the Noatak but I'd guess that you can wear both, as well as the Malaga/Lunada/Remora family. As ALWAYS a really great review. Please don't stop!!!
Its a good grab and go bag. Fits cell phone, wallet and other stuff very nicely.
How well would the proteus fit under a Noatak or any other maxped bag?
great review. im torn between the proteus and the sabercat for bushcraft and ultrlight hiking purposes. i want to believe i can make it fit in the proteus if i get the janus extension. its rough notnbeing able to manually inspect both options.nnice work on the review!

Great review!
I'm seriously thinking about getting this in addition to my FR-1 :)
Now your talkin'!! Cha-ching! lol I LOVE this Proteus! I swap my bags around often and the Proteus gets cycled in more than some others. My eye has been cast on the Sabercat because I found out its just a larger version of this bag.
I've always wanted one of these.....
After watching this..I want it more.....
@Emovamp64 That's good to know that it works well on your tac vest. Be safe, Emo.
You're very kind, Piotrek. She's awesome. Thx!
@troy5690 That's a perfect place for it too. Love those little holders. Yeah, check out this other comment here. SnugPack makes a simliar design pack too.
dag, i keep seeing all these kick ass bags i want, but i cant afford them! great review!
can i atach this bag to my molle rucksack? or must i build anything to do this?
sorry for my bad english i hope you can understand :D
Thx Leo!
How's the Sabercat? Hope its the right color. lol j/k Rock!
@crazeyes92 I don't have one to say for sure but my guess would be no..
excellent review
Backordered, so I cancelled it.
But now I have 2 different Proteus'...or is that Proti?
LOL!
Run tac ties on the back of the janus, then use more tac ties to attach to the proteus :) .. just saying ;)
Is this pack water resistant?
haha! That's hilarious! Do you love yours as much as I love mone?
So sad about the Sabercat though. I'm wondering if its too, too big though.
i believe the word you're looking for regarding the look of the bag is tacticool.
I think you should be able to do that. You will need attachment straps like either TacTies, Blackhawk speed clips or Alice clips. Weave them in the right way and the pouch will stay on your pack nice and secure. No worries about your English. It is a thousand times better than my command of your native language! :)
Nice review. Thanks!
A "rugged look" would be the best description of it.
It looks like a straight copy of the snugpak response pak!
@loki1066 hehe I appreciate that!
@uncoolkid2 Good to know, thx Kid.
Thank you, for the video, can i ask where you got the smaller one?
I got the Janus from Ebay. There's a few Ebay Stores that sell tons of MP gear so you should be able to find your good deal.
Yes, and Maxpedition were so sneaky in their copying of it that they released their version a couple of years before Snugpak
Well said, Kat! I love mine too!
You guys are too much! Yeah, Ally is hilarious. I enjoy her vids alot!
Super review! Thanks!
Great review. Thanks a million. Do you think it would work to be shoulder slung like a gear slinger sometimes and used as a butt pack others? Would be nice for my bike commute/edc. Also @ppspsd, ....creepy dude.... Creepy.
@markstevenbuisness Thx Mark!
Good Review. You like Maxpedition stuff do you? :P
You could get MALICE straps for the other bag to attach it to the Proteus Versipack .
Thank you Mid.
@billywhiz2001 haha , Thx Billy. Yes, I am. :-D
condor, voodoo, and im sure a few more make the exact same bag..
@XCritonX agreed but depends on what but when it comes to Maxpedition gear....SPEND FOR THE BEST! :D
@032125 badaBoom! Good idea! Thx!
***** I have always really liked my Proteus but think the Sabercat would be good for your purposes. It's very much larger. For example, the Proteus is too small to even carry water in addition to your stuff. Sabercat should be good.
could you fit a small SLR camera in the main compartment?
look at the snugpak response pak they just copied the snug pak and added more things
Cool video review. By the way you've got nice voice sound very similar to Jodie Foster's voice ^_^
Where can I find a woman that loves gears?
@loki1066 ...blush... no I likely didn't show my face. Let's just stick with that I might be gorgeous. Sounds good to me! lol ;-) Thx, Loki.
awesome! Thanks for doing this video! :-)
Arrgggg!
I could only play the first minute and a half!
Did we see her face ????
She sounds gorgeous.
@emailkenny Awesome! Hope you like it as much as I do. I actually cut the fanny pack straps off. :-o and use a strap to wear it over my shoulder. You g'head and just fanny pack it and stand proud, Kenny! lol
wonderful presentation RoscoeBa! ';O)
@bewaretheintertubes K I'm holding you to that lol.
i want a girl like that
:-)
There nothing, I mean nothing, sexier than a chick thats into guns, gear, knifes!! Not to mention camo pants,REALLY ! Pleasing to the eyes, like the most beautiful sunset ! ;)
