When I did Judo (three decades past, for about a year) I thought the kata were lame and boring, just very official demonstrations of throws and holds, as nage-no-kata and katame-no-kata. I had no idea about the later katas, kime-no-kata, goshin jutsu and so forth. I am utterly amazed at the utility and violent effectiveness of these kata! The preservation of the original ju-jitsu from which Kano derived Judo. Thanks for sharing!

Or you could learn ju jitsu separately because most Japanese Ju Jitsu clubs teach how to counter throw, or counter lock. I like judo and ju jitsu but it's so boring doing kata: that's one reason MMA exists

Kata is so boring. I was losing interest in judo due to kata: the straw that broke the camel's back was that there was a misunderstanding with the grading timing (I was 'late') and wasn't allowed to grade the week after. I left ju jitsu due to the same reason: the only 'good' thing about ju jitsu was you learn which attack is better countered with a judo throw and which is better countered with an aikido lock. I enjoy MMA more
