after being a machinist in the auto industry for a few years I've come to really love and appreciate u.s.a and Germany made tools. they just feel heavier and more dense. i'm waiting for a good sandblasted or rubber sleeve set to come out.
The undercut on the neck of the ball was not removed for cost savings. It slighly increased the working angle of the ball end but made the ball weaker and easier to break. The current design is a 25 degree working angle which provides a better combination of working angle and strength.
Bondhus used to make their smaller t handles like the 5/32 and 1/8 with a shorter handle. I'm guessing they changed that right around 2014. I have friends that bought theirs around 2007 2008 and they have the stubby handles.
I have a 12mm nut driver I found for $1 at a five n dime type of store, I actually get all kinds of neat tools for cheap from there like my Wera color coded hex key set for $5! =) good stuff Catus
