Yep - my Mrs asked what she needed in a soft roader to go places - Air pump is number 1 - even a "pathetic" lowend pump is better than nothing (at least once).

@@Ronny_Dahl - I only have a cab chassis and my little buddy has really taken to fishing and camping, so I have a big decision coming up. Been doing heaps of research and wanted to say a big thank you for your “no nonsense” videos. Mate, it could save people thousands - or save us making a mistake, especially for those of us who can only afford one vehicle that can do both work and play.
      Cheers 🍻 again

Here in the USA, I've got my self a Tacoma. My build is extremely slow bc im trying to purchase a home and these mods can quickly add up but going slow has definitely allowed me to get out there see where the rig is lacking and buying only what I absolutely need as I go along. It's fun to watch my rig transform slowly and sometimes I wish I could go a bit faster with the build as I watch everyone around me with there fully kitted out trucks but for now I'm making do, lol. So I'm especially enjoying your Hilux build as it's more for the common man lol. Thanx and keep up the awesome videos!
P.s. just managed to purchase an ARB snorkel for 100$ off the usual price. Super excited for that, can't wait for our to arrive.

What a great series and a great approach, doing 2 builds. I've had my current hilux for a year and a half now and the only changes I've made are winter tyres, for winter, and a pair of driving lights. After seeing this I think I will put all terrains on in spring instead of the highway tyres.

Mate I love your videos, so glad there is someone being honest about just getting out and doing it in a stock vehicle. I've been learning heaps from your videos this year. I've had my new JB74 for a month now and been out 3 times already, so much fun and so capable as a stock car. The 3rd time I had some KO2's put on, but still had a crack fully stock after only 500k's on the odo. You're a true Aussie legend mate, keep up the good vids.

It is great to see this progress. We picked up a new SR5 pre-face lift for a bargain in the sales. So we don't have the extra power, car play etc but otherwise pretty similar. We are new to owning a ute and 4 Wheel driving in general. So far our mod choices seem to be following yours pretty closely apart from a soft cover (we already have the roof rack) and a decent 12v system has been added.

Really cool build project. I'm waiting for mine atm as well. Ordered the Extra Cab though. Would be cool if you'd explain your decision for the Double Cab at some point.
I thought about that decision a lot and ended up with the EC mainly because I can sleep in it when I add a canopy... Stealth camping is a useful feature in Europe since setting up camp is not allowed in most places :)
Great videos overall. They get me so pumped for my truck :D

Ronny, great videos, love the content as usual. I do have a video suggestion though. Could you cover securing things inside the cab from a safety perspective. If one were to flip their 4WD it wouldn't be good to have heavy things (i.e. cans of food, tools, an axe) flying around inside the cab. Also, bottles rolling under the brake pedal. Things falling off seats can result in one reaching to pick them back up which means diverting one's attention from driving.
An example of something I do in my work van. I'm a field service tech, my laptop backpack and lunch box live on the passenger seat when I'm on the way a job site. I got tired of my lunch box falling off on the floor so I loop the lunch box should strap over the seat headrest. When traffic gets dumb (i.e. people 5 cars in front of me slamming on the brakes because they aren't paying attention) I'll also pull the passenger seat belt over both the lunch box and backpack to keep them in place should I have an accident.

I use my gu patrol for touring at the moment but may also grab the new ranger raptor next year, if it comes out awd, as I think it’s the best looking Ute I’ve ever seen. I would like to turn that into a tourer as well as the ifs unfortunately would make it a weak candidate as a weekend rock basher as well, so your shows are perfect to see what would work on a Ute as touring mods. Great segment.

i want everything and now:), yes you have point, I got Grand Cherokee WK2 and was bad buy in the beginning as not enough space with 4 and German Shepard. Than after 2-3 years I was on hunt and went thru few trucks, Tacoma, Colorado (amazing off road but too small), Tundra is better but no locker, Dodge Power Wagon is right but price tag is away up there. So I have needed up with Titan XD 4 ProX. Add topper, drawer system from decked, 34' ( i wish 35' but it needs front fender mods, iKamper, FrontRunners rack and removable winch. Next will do lighting, replace fronts struts, rock sliders (1000 bucks in USA min)

Hi Ronny. You made an important observation comparing HT tyres to the AT tyres regarding how low pressures need to go to increase tyre footprint. I’ve let tyres down (and had to pump them back up) hundreds of times, but I have never done a side by side comparison between the two types of tyres.
Could you please do an air down comparison?
Let down a HT to a pressure that gives you (say) the footprint for soft sand.
Then air down the AT until you get the desired footprint and compare the pressure differences.
    Regards,
    Sean

Considering the new ULEZ regulations, what ute would you recommend for a low budget ,as a starter in this beautiful journey?
Thank you in advance for your answer!

    Cheers!

Just my opinion but consider a spray on liner. I had one on a hilux and it was still perfect after almost 12 years of coping a flogging of work and play and bugger all weight added.

I have a question: Will you discuss the fuel tank extension AND how to extend the “AdBlue” tank? How to ensure that the car management system does not shut down after reaching the “standard” levels (low fuel or AdBlue? Pls, not only for you Toyota but also for my Ford Range Wildtrack 2018 ;-) Best regards from Switzerland

Intelligence direction in your build, Ronny. The average bloke is more realistically looking at “build one”.
