  • Well, bought the Bryton Rider 420 about 6-7 months ago and these are a few issues I have had with the device. Generally speaking it works great, but there's a few things that I will point out.

    I've had one for 6 months and it's been great, i would definitely recommend it. The memory getting full was also an issue for me, it slowed everything up. First time i did a factory reset and it was back to being fast, since then i instead manually delete all the ride history, this seems to prevent the problem occuring.
    I'm in Thailand, i use follow track a lot, the breadcrumbs work really well but the navigation instructions are garbage, this may be Thailand or the country roads i go on i don't know. I ignore the directions and just follow the breadcrumbs. I give it 4 out of 5, only 4 because of the 2 problems mentioned

      It works fine without the speed sensor you can just use GPS. the only time you need a speed sensor is if you're in tunnels or areas where there's almost no GPS. If you're recording a ride and it loses signal it'll just pick up the signal later and still continue mapping the ride so you can start using it now.

    You're probably bored of answering the same thing over and over again. I'm really loving the feature of seeing the elevation that's 2 Km ahead. I'm going to several Gran Fondos the coming year and knowing what hills are coming are a boon, specially when you don't know the terrain. It's all mountains so I will always know where to go, because you know, mountain road, only one way to go, so the breadcrumb features will be wasted on me. I am however curious to know if I can record the route, while I'm using follow route? Are those mutually exclusive?
    Thank you in advance.

      I think any saved ride will still be on the gps unit. After you finish just oepn the gps on a PC and find the .gpx file. This .gpx file (maybe another format), can be put into most mapping apps (openstreet, mapmyride, etc)...

    • @scottrider7271
      @scottrider7271  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      No sensor needed. It will give you speed via gps after it locks onto satellites. In the settings make sure to have it update speed quick... I think every second. If you are riding through a tunnel or something like that the speed won't display, but this doesn't effect the ride even if you are recording. It simply starts again when out of tunnel and the recording will continue.

    • @scottrider7271
      @scottrider7271  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      breadcrumb navigation works fine it's just you got to fumble around with it a bit to get the map loaded... it's a little time consuming, but it does work... once you get it going. I only used it a few times cuz I find that I'm always with my phone but I wouldn't buy the unit thinking that that's a really good feature. I'm currently using the Brighton 750 and it's got a lot better mapping thing... and I don't even use it much. I guess if you need maps you probably are in an area you're not used to being in and you're probably with your phone that's what I find...

    Hey Scott, I am about to buy this computer. What about the navigation? Is it good enough?

    • @scottrider7271
      @scottrider7271  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You're talking about the Bryton 420 right.. if so it's fine but you have to pre-program the route before you start the unit. This can also be done on a phone but it takes a few minutes to get the hang of it and takes time. Once you have a track loaded up it works pretty good you're just sort of following a line you can probably see it one of my old really bad videos, but when you're following the line that's actually pretty good. I mean it's a little simpler than a map but you shouldn't be really looking at the GPS while you're riding anyway. I call it good enough. I thought I'd use the maps, but honestly if I'm in an area where I need a map I have my phone. it's quicker... that's how it falls for me.

    Hi Scott, I am in the quest of replacing my broken (simple) bike computer. Does the device offer follow track based on RiderWithGPS routes? What about elevation screen when climbing up mountains?

    • @scottrider7271
      @scottrider7271  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 420 has a follow track function but you need to load on the route prior to starting the ride. It is a basic follow line with turn by turn... Works ok. You can load it from the phone app. If you are doing this a secondary screen also starts that will show elevation for the next 2km or so with a line type thing that moves as you move.

      @@scottrider7271 Thanks, that would be helpfull. I am used to breadcrumb navigation as I now use my watch for long rides, brevets and so on. What I miss sometimes is a turn-by-turn navigation and I see the device is capable of display street names (cue sheet). Can you check if foreign street names (not latin) are displayed, I live in Greece. Also when climbing uphill, the rest elevation/distance to the top of the hill would be good to have. I saw a video with 420 where the user created a route and added POI/PEAKS and the device showed the distance to next POI. Wasn't very clear what PEAK but there was a short video showing elevation to next PEAK???? I am not quite sure how this works, and haven't find any info on Bryton's site.

    • @scottrider7271
      @scottrider7271  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a pretty basic map thing... Lines basically... I am I. Taiwan and the street names come up in chinese... Lol...or sometimes an English version thereof. If you think you will be using maps alot... Look at the 750 model that just came out... it's a bit cumbersome having to load a map every time that you want a map

    • @scottrider7271
