For the cutscenes you can choose to keep them in 3D or pancake them through the options when a cutscene is happening.

I would like to point out that you can chose how you experience the cutscenes. It gives you the option for watching the cutscenes through a screen in vr instead of being inside them
I actually had that in the review, but I cut it out because I prefer the cutscenes over 2d and 3rd person. Despite liking it more than the other options, I felt like it still needed to be pointed out.
This game has outpaced my most immodest hopes. It has an abundance of brain searing set pieces, satisfying combat, intoxicating production values, accomplished level design, and a rogues gallery of villains you'll be sorry to see the back of. And whilst I think it's better than Biohazard, it's more accurate to say that they are different sides of the same coin and the way the narratives interlink was impressively fulfilling in the end. Few experiences can dream of coming close to this odyssey in VR. I can only hope something else comes along that is within a mile of equalling it.

Yeah, I appreciate your comment about the cutscenes that let you spin your character around to see your disembodied hands in funny places. It didn't bother me too much (kind of used to that kind of janky look in VR) but it's a really good point.
The VR mechanics are great. For me, my hype was too high for it being the next RE after RE7, which is a 10/10 game. Village is somewhere around 8.5 or so to me, but I have a feeling it might actually grow on me more with repeat playthroughs.

Yes, I have to agree. It just blows my mind, that a PS5 launch title, also happens to be what I consider the "killer app' for PSVR2...
While you may find minor flaws if your really picking at it, it is however absolutely stunning at just how well VR had been Incorporated into this experience. It reshaped survive horror into what, I believe to be the complete package.
The thing that survival horror fans have wanted since the beginning.
Now let's just hope we can get more excellent titles like this up and running.
Personally I'm a huge fan of the Wipeout series all the way back to PS 1, and the Omega VR patch was also exceptionally good on PS4...

Apart from GT7 this is my favourite game so far. I played and completed the flat version when it came out but this is even better so looking forward to going all the way again in VR

Yes, I can not wait for switchback. Was so pissed it got delayed but as soon as it hits 1 seconds past midnight on 15th March, I’m jumping straight in. I’ve never ever actually pre ordered a digital game before I got psvr2. Can’t wait for switchback. I was going to buy that zombie land or whatever it’s called for £20 but to be honest, switchback is clearly way way better so I’m unsure if I’ll buy zombie land. If there was more depth and you could move, I’d deff buy it. Kinda annoyed that I bought and didn’t like Kayak, too boring and arms hurt quickly. Light brigade just isn’t for me and I’m shocked at how bad call of the mountain is. £60 is a rip off. Saying that, I’m hoping I can at least try and get some enjoyment from these games because I don’t like wasting money. I was thinking about buying swordsman vr but I honestly think I’ll be bored in less then an hour and never play again. It’s funny because the game I’m loving most on psvr2 is thumper vr. I paid like £4 for the game, ages ago and £4 to update to psvr2 . I hear that saints and sinners pt1 has free Psvr2 upland I hope it’s true. That way if I like it, I can be confident in buying chapter 2.
I love the game and it's even more awesome in VR, the only problem I have is that unlimited ammo is no longer unlocked

You can still get unlimited ammo for a weapon. Just got to beat the game first and max out a weapon to buy it

Village is amazing on PSVR2 - gorgeous game, amazingly detailed world to explore, great combat... cannot wait for RE4R on PSVR2.
Right now my fav is GT7. But I can only really play it on the weekends to set everything up. During the week I've been playing Village and No Man's Sky
I love the first maybe 4 mins of the game because it was fun looking around the house but once they put me in that snow field and I heard noise in the grass. I was like “NOPE”
A great review there AJ, I just have to convince myself to keep playing, but with the new haptics and features, it feels a little too real for me sometimes. XD Keep up the great work!

I’ve only just arrived at the titular village, but I’m struggling to enjoy the early combat, due to the combined awkwardness of the proximity and the “severed arms” pov.
I spent a good while juggling the knife in tutorial though. (Tip - Hit R2 to flip the handle)
I'll take floating arms over floating hands :D tbh I'm not looking at my body aside from my jacket for items/weapons

This is so much fun in VR. I originally did a playthrough when it first came out. I then started a new playthrough with this in PSVR2. The VR tutorial is highly recommended. For it shows you how to do most, if not all the game mechanics. I had trouble with doing the realistic gun unloading and loading. Thankfully the game has a "gun assist" to take that part out. I also had to change from standard difficulty to casual to make things more fun and less frustrating. Though that's mostly due to getting use to moving and doing things in combat situations with the helmet and new controllers.
Starting the regular game in your home was such a trip. I actually like the in game cut scenes in VR, for you have freedom to look around, even lean over, up and down to check out things bettter. There are a handful of these that are presented as 2D for me. Not sure if that was a bug, or intentional due to what was being shown.
I've played most of it sitting on the couch. It can be a little tricky to access things from your back pockets, or open your coat. Sitting on the edge of the couch seemed to help with that. As well as periodically recalibrating where my sit cylinder is. Due to me shifting over slightly on my real world couch. Last night I leaned I can throw my knife as a weapon. And it respawns back! For unlimited throwing knives. It doesn't do that much damage. But it's useful for certain puzzles. And potentially useful if I run out of ammo. Though that's hard to do on casual.
I was really looking forward to experiencing Lady D and her 3 daughters in VR. And holy smokes, that did not disappoint. I switched to standing mode for that, and it's so immersive with having to crane my neck and slightly arch my back to look up at her. Moving your body like that really adds to the immersion you are in this other reality. Being able to get on my tip toes to look over fences, as well as leaning over ledges, or looking into vases to see what's inside them. Then remembering you can break those. Part of my enjoyment with RE8 is simply walking around and checking out all the objects and set decorations.
I sometimes had some minor issues with the popup text, that is right by my face being double vision. Though all other in game text looked normal. Re-adjusting how I was wearing the helmet, and the PED distance (the distance between your eyes) would fix that.
I'm looking forward to the RE4 Remake coming out in a few weeks. I hope that offers 1st person VR in it.
I usually play most VR games sitting and I have found that a simple counter height stool without a back works perfectly for VR as it gives you the full 360° access all around and lets you maneuver in your seat as if you are standing. My stool is about waist high so even sitting, i am the same height as if i were standing so everything sits where its supposed to as if i was standing. (This also helps if you suffer motion sickness since you are sitting through the jarring movements portions). I feel this gives me full use of my play area and still allows me to enjoy games in a relaxed position.
I feel like most VR games that aim for best play experience require you to play on a more casual setting simply because the immersion and interactivity requirements are so high in VR. Playing on normal or higher without the auto reload animation in this game is a chore and not something that I would recommend to anyone looking for the most immersive play experience. I am on my second playthrough of the game now with upgraded weapons on normal with the auto reload feature and the game is even better than my first playthrough. Next to GT7, which is just god tier good with a steering wheel and VR2, RE8 is definitely my favorite game for VR2 so far
The way they did the cutscenes sounds like the BEST of the possible options.
I wish I clarified a little, because I 100% prefer it over 2d or 3rd person, but it’s still janky and had to point it out.
He tried to jump down on you and you hit him mid air with a shotgun and flipped him. That was awesome. That's all I need to see. I'm glad that the cutscenes aren't 2D. You say they are janky, but is that only because you purposely tried to break them? If they are ok if you "go with it" then I think that's perfectly fine.
I very much prefer it over 2d cutscenes or 3rd person, but I do wish it was smoother as it’s alllmost just as immersion breaking. It’s not really a big deal though.
It's not a problem at all after the first few times and you can readily adjust to it.
So far AJ Gt7 and Call of the Mountain have my attention and i love both of them! Now, i have something else to look forward to as well.. my physical edition of Village will not leave the ps5 until i have finished it. Thanks for hyping up my already high hype for this game. #PSVR2Rules!!

I never played this one yet and I recently got the psvr2 the other day, never really tried vr till now and I played the demo, I gotta say games like this hits differently on vr. It's soo much more creepy 😭

Scary games aren't my thing in VR at least, but it was cool watching your playthrough so you got to experience it for me, lol. COTM is my fav PSVR2 game atm, just taking it slow and loving it!

Anybody else struggle to read the white text that pops up in the middle of the screen when doors are locked or info about items you pick up? It’s too blurry for me. The rest of the game is clear

I thought GT7 was the best VR experience ever. I was wrong. This game is indescribable how good it is. I’ve never experienced anything like it. I can never go back to playing regular games. Ever.
My favorite as of now is Gran Tourismo 7. I can't get enough of driving cars I probably couldn't afford in actual reality. 🤔🤣

RE7 was my favourite Psvr1 game and RE Village is my favourite on the Psvr2 right now. Such a awesome experience now I can’t wait to see how the vr mode for RE4 Remake will be.

There's definitely a few drawbacks to playing in VR, but you could say the same thing about experiencing it on a Flat screen. On the flip side, playing Village in VR is a LOT more intense, immersive and being able to aim and shoot as if you could in the real world(while also manually reloading your weapons) is far more enjoyable than fiddling your thumb on an analog stick that's for sure.
But, in VR the visuals look noticeably downgraded, black levels are not as good as an OLED TV, nor is it's grainier low resolution... It looks muddy at times and very unimpressive. Plus, dark shadowy areas can become annoying since you can see the etching of the VR OLED display, it's very distracting and really degrades the experience.
I don't know. I've held out almost 2 years for the VR version, but I'm thinking about just playing it on my 65" OLED first instead. The visual draw backs are a shame. Plus, in-game cut scenes can be sketchy because you have no idea where you're actually supposed to look so you might miss out on fine details that you'd normally see on a TV. As somebody who's finished RE7 on PSVR1, RE8 in VR, visually speaking is a little disappointing, but it's a ton of fun based on the 40 minutes, which isn't much, that's I've played.
If it looked just as clear and as graphically impressive as it does on a TV, than i'd definitely shoot for the VR version 10 fold. But a few niggles have me running for the hills lol
Loved this review AJ! As a game I prefer RE7, but still love what this game has to offer and like that resident evil can offer so many different types of experiences under the same name. Then of course the VR side of things is better in just about every way with this game.
WILL! Yeah, the VR controls make this one better in the vr gameplay department, but 7 is still one of my favorites, and absolutely terrifying :)

So, aside from the huge blurry effect that I’m trying to get used to. The dial don’t really help. But I have another problem. On left lens if I move my head slightly to the left, I notice a slight light beam effect and sometimes it looks like a little dot of light. I look straight and it’s not present. I move my head of eyes to the left and it’s there. I move head more to left and it’s gone. Is this a normal defect of psvr2 or sounds like mine is faulty? It’s not a huge deal and don’t cause huge problems but I don’t like idea of keeping faulty headset.
From the intel I've gathered so far, you need to adjust your headset position and might as well redo your eye tracking. Some people were telling me they saw a blue dot, or blue ring around the edges of their lenses, and that fixed it. Just takes a minute to get used to putting it on.
@@PSVRUNDERGROUND I’ve done everything you recommended and some. Nothing I do will make pic clear. 1 lens seems better then other. Even I res evil village, the image is so bad. I just got to the castle and as I entered, I noticed loads of gold everywhere and it was all shimmering really bad. When I’m in cut scenes, like when the old man went crazy and killed everyone, it’s just not clear image and I notice like lots of tiny smear like dots on screen. Anyway thanks for your reply. I guess I’ll have to try and work something out.

Personally I'm not a fan of having to reach behind my back for guns or to my left for the map. I just want normal control interactions like 7 in vr.

I don't know, I just use the thumbsticks, but I'm sure you can move a little
I am hating the canned grab animations, mandatory 5 sec pauses where you can do nothing. It’s especially jarring being knocked to floor as the pov is crap. Not enjoying this one so far
The little animations are pretty much my only complaint, but I still prefer them over 3rd person or 2d cinema screen (which you can enable btw)

Gotta build up your VR legs first. If you're new to VR this is probably not a good game to start with, gotta give a few days at least for your eyes to adjust

Maybe it gets better, but I didn't like what I played of Resident Evil Village on the PSVR2. I don't like the vignetting / tunneling (can it be turned off?) and I felt all the cutscenes are worse for immersion than it would be playing without being in VR. I think it is the least polished VR implementation of the ones I have tried from PSVR2 launch so far. The subtitles don't display correctly, the aiming actually requires you to close one eye to be accurate. I don't think they are making good use of the advanced eye tracking of PSVR2 headset.
Lot of disappointment for me because lot of people talk up how good Resident Evil Village is, especially for VR and in the first 30ish minutes I played (past the VR tutorial), I haven't found it to be the case.
You can turn off tunneling in the settings, and also be sure to turn off sighting assist.

@@petermulder7480 It is a big problem, if it happens to you. I got a really bad headset at first and had it replaced. The second one is much better but I still see it and it is distracting. And if you're new to VR, like I am, you should know that what TH-cam reviewers call "amazing", "crystal clear", and "vivid colors" is perhaps what amateurs lite me would call an ok image that is at least watchable and not too distracting. The experience is absolutely cool but don't get too hyped. As always in gaming perhaps. I would say that you absolutely should try it out though, if it works for you I think you'll be in for a great time. But never ever trust a TH-camr.
Edit: When receiving my replacement unit I got another seemingly common problem where the controllers didn't work in games, which fortunately only took me a few hours to resolve by resetting cache and rebuilding the database. I'm not trying to scare you off, I just want to make it clear that new products might come with issues and perhaps it's not a good idea to throw money you might not have on day 1 because of hype. Again, it's still worth trying out so good luck!

Have you tried resetting them using the tiny reset holes on the controller? That seems to work for the people that had that issue. Also, I would contact Sony and exchange them if they are defective.

this game was beautifully made as a 2d game let we say like that amazing game one of the best so far on playstation but on vr2 its fuking wooowww the details on this game they are mesmerizing like u say from load the weapons to take the cork from the bottle of the healing potion its fantastic after im done with the village im gona jump straight away to resi 7 on my vr2 i finished both games when they come out but on vr2 they are amazing plus got another good thing u dont have floating hands witch i hate on vr games that it doesnt make u feel u into the game like resident evil village vibe gives u
Looks like you didn’t notice the jagged edges and bad aliasing almost everywhere in the game and esp. the Castle Dimitrescu
I didn’t notice any substantial aliasing other than one room of the castle, but that’s not worth mentioning. The game looks fantastic.
