Sullivan was a symphony in design - not everyone heard it. What a mind!

Thank you for watching and commenting. Sulllivan was a piece of work albeit occasionally discordant.

I was a volunteer docent for the Chicago Architecture Foundation for 15 years. We 400+ docents often divided into two groups; those who embraced Daniel Burnham’s success as a business man and city planner and folks like myself who worshipped the Lieber Meister, Louis Sullivan and were passionate about Sullivan’s artist integrity, modernity and creation of a unique American style of architecture.
    Loved this video!

There is certainly room for discussion. I did not make the assessment that Sullivan was the father of modern architecture - certainly in America - that is a given in architectural history. But, having accepted that I am trying to put his name on greater p[arity with Frank Lloyd Wright. An impossible task indeed.

The quality of these videos belies 617 subscribers. Hang in there! Keep doing quality work. You’ll be up to 617,000 subscribers before long. Love your time lapse drawings, too. I wish I had that kind of talent. When you get to 617,000 subscribers, you can sell them. I’d buy some to hang in my office and home.

Your words are very encouraging. Not sure if I have the looks or slickness it takes to become an internet sensation, but it is fun to take what I have done in private talks and classes to the world in this manner. And I have found that my clients appreciate my "depth" when it comes to designing for them. So that is an immediate benefit, since ultimately my goal is to do more architecture. As for selling the sketches... you may be right that someday they will have value. I am a little too possessive of them right now to tear them out.

From a discussion on form and function: "Sullivan mentored Frank Lloyd Wright, who extended the idea to argue that form and function are one. Antonio Gaudi said "Form does not necessarily follow function, "Ecro Saarinen said "Function influence but does not dictate form"Oscar Niemeyer said, "my work is not about ‘form follows function’, but ‘form follows beauty’ or, even better, ‘form follows feminine".

And then there is Peter Blake's book - "Form Follow Fiasco." The endless variations of Sullivan's axiom is an indication of its influence. I think his summation still identifies the rational core of modern architecture even if some find it sterile. As for me, I like all forms of good architecture well executed. Bad gothic is just as bad as bad modern which is just as bad as bad classical.
