People always complain about how an Assassin's Creed in the 20th century wouldn't work but i think maybe if the protag was super stealthy and was a sniper and only engaged in open combat with a hidden blade and smoke bombs it would be fun, to the point where open combat is highly discouraged and if you get detected you have a 20 second timer to hide or drop a smoke bomb and use that, maybe even introduce the idea of gases like in Rogue with a gas mask, maybe the protaginast only carries a sniper rifle, hidden blades, throwing knives and smoke bombs and a gas mask; this could prove to be a huge advantage over the heavily armed but overencumbered opponents, maybe running would be easier the less you carry like if you run out of throwing knives or bombs you run slightly faster maybe?
I would love an Assassin's Creed in the Medieval Bulgaria or in the period of 1878 - 1919 of the Bulgarian history. It has potential; or maybe Bulgaria during WWII, the history of Bulgaria, the Tsar Boris III and the Axis is very interesting to be left unexplored. Besides, as someone of Bulgarian heritage, it would make me happy beyond repair.

If so, they have to be really careful about what time in the Cold War they set it in. Too far in and suspension of disbelief becomes nigh impossible. Too short and it would feel no different from World War II. For this kind of game, sometime around the 1960's-1970's would be ideal for a Cold War AC.
