If I remember correctly, the choir is Amber's IRL mom's gospel choir. They appear in several episodes. Amber is by far my favorite female vocalist on Glee.
Amber Riley's performace of Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" was the highlight of the entire Glee run. The episode aired shortly after Whitney's death, which made it even more dramatic.
Amber Riley is outstanding. You really really just need to watch the whole series. They did over 700 songs with some episodes up to 10 songs. Not to mention the storylines are all over the place.
Amber Riley eventually won Dancing With the Stars and she won an Olivier for her performance in "Dreamgirls" in London (West End). Mercedes was the best female vocalist in the show,
Saw Amber sing this live at the live concert. It sounded exactly like her studio recording

My favorite singer on Glee. "Try a Little Tenderness" is another terrific cover by her. Post Glee she won an Olivier for her performance in "Dream Girls" in London.
