    I will always check all the cables around before starting to take voltage tests, thanks for the video, very helpful.

    Good job ! Perhaps there were two\multiple power inputs to the board with differing voltages. You read the 12 volts to power the board, but did not take into account the other input. Well done!

      The Ebay folks... were probably really happy for your honesty and that there was nothing wrong with the product (possibky resellable?).

    A quick way to diagnose this in the future. Use a non-contact voltage Checker that can be purchased from Lowe's. You will notice it will flash red up until the noise filter and won't flash anything past the noise filter that's the quickest way to diagnose this issue.

    You said the cable snapped after a light tug. I think there was enough contact to show voltage, but there was not enough contact to deliver the amperage for the board to be functioning.

    • @FrugalRepair
      @FrugalRepair  ปีที่แล้ว

      Great guess. This is my leading theory on why the voltage was there but not the current.

  • @diymaster1121
    @diymaster1121 ปีที่แล้ว

    It is important to mention that non contact voltage testers will show voltage even when the circuit is not closed !
    The voltage was present in the board and wiring but the circuit was open so the current couldn't flow.
    Voltage is just a potential on the wires but if the circuit is open the current wont flow.

    • @FrugalRepair
      @FrugalRepair  ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. The tester I was using would show both, ac current and voltage. It only showed voltage which was confusing since that was a current carrying wire.

    The dishwasher that came with our house worked for a while... then it would get part way through a cycle and trip the house fuse (I would go out, reset the main fuse then try again only to have the fuse tripped again... about three checks was enough). I'm the dishwasher now :(

    • @FrugalRepair

      Are you going to try to fix it? Could it be related to the heating element? Maybe it’s shorted?

    All that hassle for a single broken cable, hehe! Good that you found it and could fix it, it means one less machine at the landfill!
    The Ebay sellers was very kind there tho since normally, you really don´t want back such specific products like PCB´s!

      Yes, I'm very glad it was only the cable! I was surprised the ebay sellers offered me a return after I told them it was my mistake. I gave them 5 star reviews.

  • @michaelbill123

    The obvious question wasn’t answered. What caused the damaged wire? Sharp metal front panel? Not enough stress relief of wires?

    • @Ebolachicken
      @Ebolachicken ปีที่แล้ว

      maybe a combination of all the above plus vibrations and opening the door.

    • @FrugalRepair
      @FrugalRepair  ปีที่แล้ว

      I just assumed it was the metal edge that cut through the insulation and that wire was sticking up higher. Good point though that I should have spoken more to that in the video.
