    I used to have a similar style building. I didn't use spray insulation, i just paid $800 a month to heat it.

    You need to wear a respirator, spraying foam for 8+years, cover your whole body especially your eyes, heat the cans to 75, the colder the foam the less likely it will adhere to your substrate and delaminate, covering the beams will help prevent sweating as well 👍🤙

    It is absolutely 100% recommended that you wear self-contained breathing apparatus or a breathing filter for organic Vapors as well as particulates the off-gassing is very hazardous

    The expansion really sucks on all these do it yourself kits it's like half an inch ,,,, for how much it cost the r value is terrible. I was thinking of using this stuff but after watching 30 videos I don't think it's worth it .

    • @machinesandthings7121
      @machinesandthings7121 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It really depends on the spray foam formula and temperature. If you spray at the correct temperature it expands correctly, if not well yep not much expansion. Also the bottles get cold as you spray, so heating the bottle to keep it at the correct temperature is a must. I've seen people build hot boxes for the bottles to sit in. Seems to work well.

    Does the package give a total finished volume of foam? I have a deck over a room with a sloped ceiling using 2x6 joists. Total volume is about 60 cu.ft. i would like to completely fill the void with successive layers to assure complete curing and wonder if one kit will be enough.

    Hi, I'd really like to use a foam kit here in Bogotá Colombia but they're not sold here, I telephoned the airline fright department in Miami and they said no no. No chemicals under pressure. The two components are sold here and are used on the big pro machines. I have an idea but I need a little information; I could import just the Gun, nozzles and houses and hook them up to two fumigation containers that can be pumped up for pressure fumigation. Do you think this would work? Where could I buy just the Gun with the nozzles and house? Thank you.

    • @TheMoonlightCraftsman
      @TheMoonlightCraftsman  ปีที่แล้ว

      I wish I could help you. Here in the states they are sold at your big box stores like Lowe’s and Home Depot

  • @jb5676
    @jb5676 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I have the larger unit, that was used a few months ago, but still has 3/4 left in the tanks. I tried to use it with a new nozzle, but it's only spraying out one component which, of course, doesn't foam up - just becomes a sticky liquid. Must be clogged inside the gun. Any suggestions?

    • @TheMoonlightCraftsman
      @TheMoonlightCraftsman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes. You will need to buy a new set of hoses and gun and it will work. Unfortunately I think they charge like 50 bucks for that but they do sell a set of hoses separately. High premium for that plastic

    • @jb5676
      @jb5676 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh I didn't think they could be bought separately. Thanks for that info.

      Yikes that is not good. I remember using this and put Vaseline on the tip. It worked fine after several months. Maybe the air got in the one hose somehow. Sorry to hear that.

    If you are inexperienced with foaming it's a difficult product to install. You should not go over the work you just did because it disrupts the foam from expanding. Great video though.

    Thanks

    • @TheMoonlightCraftsman
      @TheMoonlightCraftsman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. But it sprays on in around 1 inch thick layers to cure properly so you would need complete access. If you’re trying to get sound protection and you do have complete access you might consider rockwool insulation.

  • @davestanley6233
    @davestanley6233 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    The box says professional use only. One of the components is isocyanate. Definitely need a respirator and eye protection. Also wood has a fire rating... doesn’t mean it’s fire proof.

    • @TheMoonlightCraftsman
      @TheMoonlightCraftsman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Excellent points to highlight. The eye protection and respirator is probably something I shouldn’t of skipped even if it was a small area in a open building. People should definitely remember to read all the instructions and remember that they’re watching a hillbilly on TH-cam. Thanks for watching Dave.

    Can I spray the bottom of my porch witch is outside and 50 degrees out if I keep tanks warm. Is 40-50 degrees surface temp ok to apply to or does surface need to be 70degrees as well

    • @rodneypalmer1923

      You can apply foam to a cold surface. Just make sure to check moisture level first. Use a respirator with a P100 filter or equivalent and goggles. Never ever spray foam without a respirator!!

    • @TheMoonlightCraftsman
      @TheMoonlightCraftsman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. This was actually a second coat on most of the surfaces months apart. Very good adhesion to metal, wood, and prior coats. Thanks for watching!

    • @machinesandthings7121
      @machinesandthings7121 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's very important that you not over coat the surface in one go. Let it fully cure and then add a second pass. All spray foam manufacturers will specify a specific thickness per application (once fully expanded). It's VERY important to not exceed that! Over spraying in a single pass can cause the exothermic reaction to cause some toxic compounds to be created(too much heat). Temperature control is EXTREMELY important will spray foams. Follow the instructions with regards to foam thickness and temps!

    Why would you DIY? For the price of the product you can hire someone else to provide their own product and do it for you. They will bring their own ppe and expertise and also provide you with a full satisfaction guarantee. No problem. Have a great day!

      I looked into it. I have a company doing my basement. It would’ve taken me 13 kits at 200 board feet each to complete, with no experience, no warranty and my own time. Not worth it. It was close to same price as hiring. However great if you only need one or two kits worth
